This is a PRP between:

Xiu (Rapid)
&
Prajna and (?) ( Kaurii)

Location: Morning Market
Time: Early morning.
Weather: Fine; slightly chilly.
PostPosted: Tue Apr 14, 2009 2:57 am

It was a pleasant morning. The birds were singing, the sun was shining (or was due to shine in about an hour anyway), and the house was…quiet. Xiu shifted his wings slightly as he waited for his guardian to emerge from her room. Hazeline had promised to bring him grocery shopping today and the white raevan waited; albeit a little impatiently for his guardian to fulfill that promise.

Glancing at the clock in the living room, Xiu gave it a small frown. Only five minutes had passed since the last time he had checked it; an hour and the half more till the time Hazeline said she’d bring him shopping.

An hour and the half was too long a wait.

Xiu floated about the living room looking for something to do when his eyes fell upon the shopping list compiled by Hazeline, Mrs. Bediever and Joshua the previous night. Picking it up, Xiu read through the piece of paper quickly before giving his guardian’s bedroom door a quick glance. The items required could be easily obtained from one of the many stalls that made up the morning market. Xiu knew this because he had been there himself a couple of times when Mrs. Bediever was too busy to do the grocery shopping herself.

And besides, it was not like he couldn’t shop alone now could he? He had done it in the past so why couldn’t he do it again in the present?

The answer was simple. It was because of that Sigel Rivener. After coming over to the bookstore to drop off the photo, the scorpion raevan had told Hazeline that she needed worry more about Xiu and that it was not safe for him to be wandering about alone.

It appeared that Hazeline had indeed taken the other’s advice seriously. Xiu was now not allowed to leave the house unless he was with someone and this arrangement had definitely curbed his freedom somewhat. Xiu sighed. No doubt Rivener had meant well and it was true that he was getting more time with his guardian but sometimes…well…he’d like to have some time to himself as well.

Glancing at the clock, Xiu was dismayed to see that the hands had barely moved. At this rate, he would be able to get to the marketplace and back before anyone was due to wake up. Which was…okay wasn’t it?

Like a pin being drawn to a magnet, Xiu glanced at the shopping list once again. He could do the grocery shopping now couldn’t he? It was not like he was out doing something bad…he would be saving Hazeline the trouble and besides, everyone knows that the earlier you visit the market, the fresher the products are. He was sure no one would object to that…

Thus making up his mind, Xiu went into his room to retrieve his allowance (kept in an old but soft leather wallet). He would use this first and perhaps claim the shopping money back from Hazeline later.

Floating silently past the other bedrooms, Xiu hesitated at the front door of the bookstore. Something was…not right…he was doing something…wrong…
The white frei floated a little uncertainly at the door, his wings twitching with slight agitation at the emotion that he was experiencing. This was bad. He was not doing as he was told…
But on the other hand, he was helping Hazeline wasn’t he? This feeling then…what was it?

No, it was probably nothing. Shaking himself out of his uneasiness, Xiu turned the knob on the front door and exited as quietly as he could. There. He was out. Now all that he had to do was to get the shopping done as fast as possible and return home before Hazeline got up.

---------------------------------------------

Forty-five minutes later, Xiu was making his way back to the bookstore with all the things he had set out to purchase when his eyes caught sight of the bouquets on display from a stall. The flowers were lovely and Xiu was suddenly seized with the desire to buy them. He had seen flowers like these placed on tables in books and had thought that they looked lovely. These flowers were almost exactly like what he had seen in the book and they came in little vases as well. The price for them wasn’t that bad either. Smiling, Xiu bought a small bouquet in a pretty looking vase before making his way back home. It wasn’t so much that he’d hope to lessen Hazeline’s anger but rather his thoughts that Hazeline would be delighted to have such a pretty looking thing on the dining table…

The inverted flame paced-floated back and forth, back and forth, as its crimson ribbon danced across the smooth surface of the pristine wooden floor beneath it. How long was he going to remain asleep?! Prajna flapped its wings angrily as it shot its fifth glare at David's unmoving door knob. As was the weekday routine, Namini would leave around 5:30 a.m. to attend something called a "hides cool", a place where many humans of her age attended as she explained, and she would return around three in the afternoon, usually exhausted. During her absence, David was left to care for Prajna until work took him away as well, thankfully, around the same time she got home. Prajna adored the fact that it didn't have to see David's face until the next morning, since the Asian tended to return home incredibly late anyways, which Prajna always mused about but did not prod into. But until three...Blue eyes shot at the clock. It was only 5:35 a.m. ...but until three, Prajna was stuck with this fool.

Another piercing stare and Prajna outstretched a cold hand to the metallic knob. -Jiggle! Jiggle!- It frowned, though it had expected David's room to be locked; That haughty man hated having his sleep disrupted.

5:37 a.m.

Prajna floated into Namini's welcoming room and glanced out the pink-curtained window. The sun seemed to be waving pitifully to the Frei, taunting it as streetlights had begun to flicker. Prajna's mouth watered terribly as it imagined that the beautiful, neon street signs and the delicious lights of neighbors' porches would soon be dimmed and out of its grasp. David always knew how badly Prajna craved strolls, especially at night, but did he ever comply? No. Well...Only once but that was on the first night, before their first fight.

God those city lights looked so..magnificent.
The inverted flame returned to the living room.

5:42 a.m.

David's door knob remained locked, mocking. Prajna then turned its eyes to another door knob: the front door's. Those silver orbs were very similar in size, texture, but the potential, the significance of each one was so very different. Freedom... versus the awakening of an idiot. The feast of a lifetime...versus a cranky playboy.

Prajna floated over to front door and allowed a delicate hand to hover over the awaiting door knob. It looked so innocent, so ...exciting. A devious smirk crawled onto the androgynous Frei's features as one of Namini's rules played in its mind, the hand already turning the door knob: "Don't ever leave the house without either David or I! It's dangerous!"

"Whatever. Prajna will "forget", sorry," the fiery soul laughed softly as the front entrance clicked softly behind it.

5:57 a.m.

The front door reopened. Prajna slid back in and floated hastily over to Namini's room.

6:00 a.m.

Prajna was free again, but with Namini's delicate, little panda wallet now hidden in its vest. It was time to find some fun.
- - - - - -

"OPEN" signs. "WELCOME" signs. Signs, signs, signs, and ohhh that artificial lighting! Shop owners must have imagined that the Frei was gazing longingly at their dull mannequins, yearning for some shirt or blazer, some adorable sherbet-colored stuffed animal, but no. As Prajna pressed its hands against the cool windowpanes, its rune had grown brighter and brighter, slowly taking in each lightbulb's amazing taste but making sure it didn't linger too long with one sign or headlight; How was it going to explain to these idiots that it ate artificial lighting? They would look at its lack of torso and laugh.

But soon the busyness of the downtown strip was replaced with the morning calm and Prajna felt satisfied. All of those flashing lights had truly been a feast for it. With the sun moving slowly above the buildings, it was now time to work some of this extra weight off and relieve its "stomach" with a taste similar to almost flavorless wafers, the taste of the natural sunlight.

"No rain.." The Frei prayed before something...or someone in particular caught its eye. Looking across the bustling street, full of people heading towards work, Prajna caught sight of--

"Xiu?" Prajna purred, its lips curling ever so slightly upwards.
PostPosted: Sat Apr 25, 2009 9:33 am

While Prajna’s meal was just ending, Xiu’s was just about to begin. Floating serenely amongst the morning shoppers, joggers and working people, Xiu’s rune began to pulse gently as the raevan fed on the innocence provided by the general public. Although this particular crowd lacked the innocence generally generated by youths, Xiu found the amount to be sufficient. Perhaps Rivener and Hazeline had been overreacting a little thought Xiu as his blue eyes scanned the busy street for trouble. There were none. Feeling pleased with himself, the white raevan allowed his thoughts to wander when…

“Xiu?”

A familiar voice had called and the white raeven was instantly frozen in place. That voice…he’d recognize it anywhere. It was soft; perhaps quite a distance away from where the white raevan was and if Xiu was planning to not get into trouble, it was best that he avoided it. It was unfortunate but…ever since their first meeting, Xiu had branded Prajna as a possible troublemaker despite Rivener telling him otherwise. Xiu guessed that he should probably give the other frei a chance to redeem itself but…that chance would have to wait for a more appropriate time.

Besides, the voice that had mentioned his name was faint and Xiu would probably not have heard it had it not been completely coincidental. Perhaps if he floated away fast enough…

Thus making up his mind, the white frei did not turn to face Prajna but floated on with a sort of renewed determination to not be caught knowing that he had in fact been aware of Prajna’s presence. The momentary halt was regrettable but it could not be helped. Perhaps Prajna would assume that Xiu had not heard it and let the white raevan be. Xiu certainly hoped that that was the case.

Prajna's blue eyes immediately lit up with amusement as it watched what seemed like an internal struggle between instinct and courtesy wage openly across Xiu's facial features. He was definitely a funny one. But as the fight neared an end, Prajna's lips were tugged back into their signature frown as it watched as the white haired Frei slowly began to turn and then, all of the sudden, float off as quickly as he could, as if being chased by a herd of the "bang-bang! AIEE!" men Prajna had seen on TV. Where did that idiot think he was going?! Prajna just wanted to have a little talk... At this thought,
the androgynous soul couldn't hold back a chuckle, recognizing that No. No no no, to have a little talk was never the case: Prajna definitely wanted to have some fun.

Giving Xiu a small start, Prajna finished its laugh before floating after the speedy devil. It weaved in and out of some of the passerbys and their cars, before it reached a point of slight fatigue. Ahhh, that blood-soul was just too fast! It was time to get crafty.

Prajna's cerulean eyes darted around the cobblestone and street stands before it spotted It. It was right there, so perfect, so ..easy and simple, even David could know what to do with it. Prajna looked back at the fleeing white figure before it reached down and picked up a beautiful little pebble. It tossed it a few times and caught it repeatedly in the delicate palm of its right arm, until finally, the redhead launched the rock a good ways, calling out only a mere second or two before it landed against Xiu's head,"Watch out Xiu!"

It smirked.
PostPosted: Sat May 16, 2009 10:29 am

"Watch out Xiu!"

Whirling around, Xiu stared at the incoming pebble with an almost comical crossed eye expression. Time at that moment, seemed to have slowed down considerably and Xiu was even able to make out the exact shape and colour of the pebble that was coming at him. Perhaps Prajna’s aim had been a little off or perhaps Xiu had tried to dodge the pebble in what little time that was given to him as the pebble had not succeeded in hitting him squarely between the eyes as Xiu thought it would but instead had found its mark on the white raevan’s left temple. Startled, Xiu instinctively floated back a little only to bump into an elderly woman carrying her shopping basket.

“Hey! Watch it!” screeched the old woman as a couple of fruits and perhaps a can or two of choice cat food tumbled out. “That’s my grocery there!”

“I-I am sorry,” apologized Xiu as he hastily bent over to retrieve the fallen goods. “I was a little careless…,”

“You darn right you are!” croaked the disagreeable old lady as she stood glaring down at the raevan. “Young people these days. No sense of courtesy! Always barging into sweet little old women who’d like nothing better than to be left in peace,”
Perhaps it should be noted that the ‘sweet little old woman’ was also rather short sighted and seemed to think nothing of scolding a floating half torso with wings and horns. Xiu cringed slightly as the woman continued her lamentation about the morals of today’s youths. Soon, certain choice words began making their way into Xiu’s thoughts about this particular ‘sweet little old woman’ but whatever they were, Xiu kept them to himself. Placing the final tin of cat food into her basket, Xiu gave the woman a humble bow and apologized once more for the trouble he had caused. This however only seemed to aggravate the woman even more as she was seen stomping off and grumbling about how kids these days had no respect for elders and seemed to take delight in mocking whatever advice that they were given.

All this of course had occurred within the span of no more than a few minutes but it was a few precious minutes wasted all the same as Xiu now found himself almost face to face with the approaching Prajna; the one whom he had been trying to avoid so fervently only moments before.

“Umm…hello, Prajna,” greeted Xiu uneasily while one hand fingered the bruise that was forming on his left temple.

The fire-colored Frei floated over to the blood-themed Frei, a mischievous grin plastered onto its features as it watched Xiu stumble around, confused, wounded, vulnerable. But Prajna's chesire smile quickly died as it listened to the angry words spewing out of some woman's mouth...angry words directed at Xiu. Prajna did not like her tone. It was an accident, a funny accident nonetheless!! Sharp ice-like eyes turned to watch Xiu, who was now flustered but still forgiving and respectable to the cranky elder. Prajna frowned.

"Hey--" Prajna hissed to the woman but she had already turned around from the duo, too absorbed in her grumbling to pay the flame any mind. It pouted and kept the pout even when Xiu acknowledged it, "Xiu, why you say nothing to ugly? It yell-ed at you, threaten Xiu! But you say nothing. Prajna..is angry."

Cerulean eyes trailed after the woman, smoky wings beating hard as well, as Prajna imagined attacking the woman as it had with Varun... She wouldn't get the kiss that Varun had, but all the biting and snarling.

Xiu blinked, surprised and not to mention a little touched by the scarlet frei’s outburst. Perhaps he was being too judgmental after all. After all, it was Prajna who had warned him about the flying rock as well. Shifting his wings slightly, Xiu gave Prajna a small smile.

“I guess… it’s because…she’s old, Prajna,” replied Xiu a little uncertainly as he followed Prajna’s gaze and watched as the cranky old woman went lumbering away with the occasional use of a well practice elbow into the sides of various passersby. “I guess…some people can’t help being disagreeable,” Xiu then added as he recalled some of the books he had read about angry old women. They were always disagreeable because they had been having a bout of bad luck and were later as cheerful as a model grandmother the minute some helpful kid comes around to solve their problems. Hazeline had also mentioned something about people’s body giving way as they age and hadn’t the housekeeper supported that statement by rubbing her aching back every once in a while after a rather hard day’s work? Oh dear….perhaps I should have been more considerate thought Xiu and was just about to suggest that they go after the angry old woman and help her when a rather large and posh looking car equipped with a friendly couple in the front seat stopped before the old lady.

“Hello mother,” the young man in the driver’s seat could be heard saying as he got up to open the car’s passenger door for the old lady. “Had a nice day shopping?”

“My foot!” replied the old lady in mid-screech. “I was hit by a bunch of youngsters! I tell you Brandon, they are out to get me!”

“I’m sure it was an accident,” said the young men as he closed the door after the old lady had entered, hopped into the driver’s seat once more and finally drove off; leaving the rest of the conversation unknown to Xiu.

“Well…that was certainly an eye opener,” murmured Xiu.

"Old? Hmphf. No reason for ugly to be mean to Xiu," Prajna declared as it watched the rude woman continue her wicked practice upon the other morning innocents. Old age led to meanness? Prajna shook its head. That was simply unspeakable.

But what really lit Prajna's fire was when its blue eyes watched as an elegant car approached the elderly woman, a passenger seat being offered to her. Prajna made a deep frown. She was allowed to be so rude to everyone yet be rewarded with such a ride? The Frei had had enough. Quickly, it glanced around the ground, looking for the pebble it had used against Xiu.

"There" Prajna purred, picking up the delicate gem once again. The star wouldn't miss this time! It floated after the car, lucky that it had been stopped at a red light, and chucked the stone at the old woman's window, sticking its tongue out at her after the "CLUNK!" of the pebble had been established. A devilish smirk crawled onto its features as it then pointed to the car, and called out to Xiu,"Prajna got ugly back for Xiu, okay?"
PostPosted: Sat Jun 06, 2009 10:12 pm

Xiu stared after the crimson frei in horror as the pebble found its mark upon the car’s window. Floating hastily forward, Xiu quickly took hold of Prajna’s hand and began leading the other away from the car; partly because the white frei did not want to sink into anymore trouble if he could help it and partly because…Xiu was afraid that Prajna would throw yet another rock towards the old lady. From the corner of his eye, Xiu could see the old lady’s turtle-like head poking out of the car’s window and a gnarled old hand pointing in Prajna’s and Xiu’s direction.

“Prajna should have just left her alone,” said Xiu softly but worriedly as he led the other around a corner to a street where there weren’t as many morning marketers. It was bad to run, Xiu knew but how were they ever going to apologize if the damage was intentionally caused? Finally pausing after he was sure that they weren’t being chased, Xiu turned to eye the crimson frei thoughtfully; releasing his hold on the frei’s hand as he did so. Was he angry with the fallen star? To be sure he was but…Prajna had acted out for…his sake hadn’t it? It has ‘got ugly back’ hadn’t it? The white frei was confused and showed it by flicking his wings slightly.

“Why, Prajna?” asked Xiu finally. “Why are you being such a perplexing creature. One minute you are no better than a common rascal and the next…you are out there pelting rocks at old women with self-righteous fury,”

Did Prajna perhaps feel it should stand up to its own kind?

Prajna had just began to turn around to take a gander at the cranky bat's expression when it felt a firm grip form around one of its slender wrists and -fwoosh!- the race was on. When panicked, Xiu was..fairly fast, Prajna noted, smirking when this realization occurred. But the satisfaction did not last long. After making a sharp turn into a desolate area, Prajna soon found itself face to face with what seemed to be a frustrated Xiu. It knitted its eyebrows together. What was going on?

"Should have left her alone? "Why Prajna?" Xiu is not happy? Ugly say mean things to Xiu! Prajna..her..," Prajna's voice trailed off as its mind began to race, images of what just happened playing over and over again in its mind. What had gone wrong? Shouldn't Xiu be smiling, happy at what Prajna had done? Prajna's wings drooped a little bit as it opened and closed its mouth like a fish out of water.

What had Prajna done wrong?
PostPosted: Tue Jun 16, 2009 9:42 pm

At the other’s question, Xiu took a deep breath while he thought about the best way possible to handle the situation. Prajna had behaved the way it did because it thought that it was helping Xiu but what Prajna did was wrong; well from society’s point of view anyway…

“Yes, she was a rather disagreeable old lady,” admitted Xiu as he flicked his wings. “And I have to admit that I am rather…touched by your concern Prajna but…throwing a rock at an old lady is just…not accepted,” said Xiu. “What if the old lady got hurt? Prajna would then be in trouble; well, in more trouble than if Prajna had left her alone,”
“And besides,” said Xiu as he placed a hand onto the shoulder of the crimson raevan “Tell me Prajna, is that…old bag really worth all that trouble?” This time, the look that the white raevan gave the other was no longer disapproving but conspiring. “To be honest, I don’t think it is,” said Xiu softly.

Trouble.

Now, where had Prajna heard that over and over again? Realization hit as guilt sunk deeper into the Frei's chest; Xiu was addressing Prajna with the soft parental tone Namini used against it, the only voice that ever seemed to make the flame's entire being weigh a thousand pounds. But how had Xiu known about that way of talking? Trouble? No, Prajna meant no trouble, merely...

"Justice! Xiu, can't see?!" its voice became a kind of soft plea, though there was still a hint of pride underneath it all. The redhead took a moment to try and organize its thoughts but, like its essence, the internal flames of its overwhelming emotions just burst into a wildfire. Prajna's face distorted to a pout. It would not take this kind of misunderstanding from its friend, Xiu was not Namini. He had to understand what Prajna saw!

"Not accepted? Prajna don't care if ugly got hurt. Trouble worth, WORTH IT ALL. Xiu got hurt too, hurt more maybe!" Prajna shrieked, losing what little control it had as it stressed the way the woman had so poorly received Xiu. Xiu was Prajna's to tease and boss around and to laugh at, Prajna's playmate and voice of logic! The entire event seemed like a direct attack on the redhead itself; Oh how it would never forgive that woman! But why wait for a second encounter? If Xiu could clearly not understand the words coming out of its mouth, maybe it would have to just show him...

Prajna turned sharply away from Xiu, bitter tears swelling in its blue eyes as it gripped the corner of the building and searched for the granny's face. Oh, it would show her just what it was like to hurt anything of Prajna's, whether it was its pride or its friend.

Xiu was stunned at the Frei’s outburst. “Prajna!” exclaimed Xiu worriedly before quickly floating up to the red frei and grasping its hand before it could do any further harm. Turning the frei rather roughly around with all the intention of handling the younger frei with a firm hand, Xiu was shocked to see that…Prajna was crying…

“P-Prajna?” said Xiu tentatively as he released his grip on the raevan. “Hey, w-why are you crying? I…didn’t hurt you, did I? Ummm… here, take this and…please, don’t cry, alright?” said Xiu as he fumbled with the contents of the basket and offering the crying raevan a few stalks of flowers from the bouquet he had bought. “See these pretty flowers, Prajna? They are for you, alright? So…please, stop crying,”

Prajna tried to shut its eyes tight, fighting back the stinging waterworks as it felt Xiu pull and turn it around. Xiu could not see! He could not and should not see Prajna right then; Prajna needed more control of itself and these stupid tears! As Xiu began to speak, his shaky words eventually proved meaningless to the redhead as it tossed its head side to side. It would not open its eyes! If Prajna managed to keep its eyes closed for the rest of the morning, maybe, just maybe the tears would stop or perhaps return to the back of the flame’s eyes. Xiu could not see such weakness. He was being too kind. He was…

A floral smell took over Prajna’s senses in that moment and the Star opened its eyes in surprise, catching sight of a beautiful bouquet of assorted lilies and carnations and forget-me-nots, none of which Prajna could actually identify but it was a pretty sight nonetheless. The Star took another deep breathe, a slow inhale to truly admire the amazing scent, before it raised its eyes to meet Xiu’s. Unknowingly, the shock of the flowers had stopped the tears. Prajna felt its lips curl slowly upwards into a soft smile, one that gave its entire being a lovely if not temporary feminine aura, for a moment giving some illusion to its true gender.

"Xiu did not hurt Prajna. Of course not," the Frei murmured affectionately as it took the flowers carefully. It flickered its gaze back down to them, still admiring. Yes, they were very very pretty. The frustration seemed to be oozing out of the flame quickly with each fresh, intake of the bouquet's sweet breathe. There were really such stunning flowers. Prajna had never seen such lovely things outside the television. "Xiu has..good looking for flowers. Prajna is..happy. Very happy."

A soft blush fluttered to Prajna's porcelain features as it realized though, that these flowers weren't just any ol' gift. They were given out of worry, out of genuine concern. Prajna's brow suddenly knitted together in a gentle expression of sorrow. How did one go about repaying this kind of deed? Xiu was too nice to compete with! Prajna was never going to be able to compensate for such a lovely thing! Genuine..genuine..what was a genuine act of compassion? Prajna's mind raced through all the television shows it had watched, until finally it remembered what one girl did when a boy gave HER flowers.

Quickly, the flowers still in one hand, Prajna floated over to Xiu, an enthusiastic smile of success playing on its lips as it also adjusted its height, floating a bit lower than the older Frei. Just as the space between the two half-torsos closed, Prajna raised its arms and tied them around Xiu's neck gleefully and then pushed its body upwards until their lips meshed together. Yes! This was a genuine feeling alright!
