Xylia wandered around the pacific territory nervously, her whole life she had lived alone. The only company she had was her friend Ariel, but the shy otter often stayed under water and quiet. Still it was worth it, even somewhere strange and new she felt somehow comforted. If anyone but Cornelius had asked her she wouldn't have left her solitude.
Into the water she slipped to gather a small clam from the bottom, she swam upward once more and climbed out onto the shore to crack it open. Normally she would float in the water and enjoy her meal relaxed, but the scents of other otters made her skittish. These were not random strangers, they were ladies and warriors and this was their home...and she...she was an intruder.
She finished the juicy piece of clam meat and went in search of Cornelius hoping for some company. A part of her told her to leave him alone, he was a patroller here, someone important...and she shouldn't bother him. Yet her desire to see him even from a distant was strong.

Cornelius had just finished up his patrol, having reported to Mistress Ching. But lately, his mind hadn't been on his job, but more on a certain female otter. He had to wonder, if what he was feeling was what his father felt for his mother? He wasn't sure he could ever go to him and ask.
He was swimming back toward his den, ignoring ever otter that was around, just wanting to get back to his den and back to Xylia. His head was held out of the water as he easily gliding his way through the water.

Xylia's brown eyes widened and a slow smile crossed her muzzle, what luck! She slipped back into the water as she spotted Cornelius heading in the direction of his den. Perhaps she could intercept him and keep him company on his way back home.
"Cornelius!" She splashed closer and dove under to swim towards him faster. Her heart swelled with happiness seeing his shiny black and golden fur. How magnificent he looked all the time, she slowed a bit feeling shabby herself and ran a paw across her whiskers and over her head.

If it was anyone else, Cornelius would have snarled or plain out ignored them. But hearing Xylia's voice, he let a small smile grace his normally grouchy face and he stopped and floated in the water so Xylia could come over to him.
"I thought you were going to be in my den today." he commented in greeting, quite happy to see nothing had happened to her out here.

She smiled at him sheepishly as she moved closer to circle him playfully before stopping infront of him.
"I got a little hungry...and then...I was kind of lonely..." She blushed and looked down. "I...I missed you."
She lifted her gaze and offered him an apologetic smile. "How was your patrol?"

Cornelius felt a little color go on his face and his heart started beating a little faster. She missed him? He wasn't sure if he should say he missed her as well. But he was glad she asked about his patrol, that way he could veer the conversation elsewhere, "It was quiet. No predators having moved in, no threats anywhere." he said.

She smiled softly and swam along with him "Thats good...I was worried...I wouldn't want anything out there to hurt you..."
She looked at him a long moment her eyes burning with curiosity, did he care for her the way she cared for him? Or was he simply being kind in allowing her to remain in the territory while her home area was threatened by otters with wicked plans in their minds.
"You must be hungry..." She finally murmured.

He snorted a little, "There aren't many who could actually hurt me, and even if they could, I would make sure they would feel more pain then they would give me." he said, not boasting, just knowing his strengths.
"Hmmm...I am a bit hungry, but I can wait until we get back to my den." he said. He kind of wished Xylia hadn't gotten herself something to eat, that way he could go out and get her something, maybe a big salmon.

She smiled and dove under the water to tug playfully at his tail before popping back up and touching her nose against his with a laugh. "So brave! It's no wonder I don't feel worried at all when your around Cornelius..."
Xylia couldn't wipe the smile away as she swam with him, as the den neared she glanced at him and blushed. "I'm still a little hungry myself...I'm not so good at foraging for myself around here..."

"R-really?" he asked, looking as though something big had been revealed to him. Shaking his head, he blushed when she touched her nose to his and it took alot for him not to lick her cheek. "Well, if you like, I'll find us something to eat." he said, trying to keep the nervousness out his voice.

She nodded softly "Really...I wouldn't lie to you...your like...the seaweed that keeps me from drifting out too far during the night."
She smiled and brushed against him. "I'll race you to your den! Come on!" She giggled and dove under the water.

Cornelius allowed a soft smile to grace his face when she said that, liking that she thought of him like that. When she challenged him to a race, a playful smirk crossed his face and he dove under, easily catching up to her in the water.

Xylia grinned as she leapt onto the shore and shook off, her fur fluffed before settling back down slowly. She looked at Cornelius and laughed "I'll never beat you, your faster then any current..."
She sat down to catch her breath and glanced at his den and then around. "It's kind of quiet out here, why aren't you closer to the others?"

Cornelius didn't want to brag, so he only sat on the shore and groomed his fur back down. When she asked why he didn't live close by to the others, he shrugged a bit, but he was a little hurt. Did she want to go live near the others? He wouldn't stop her, but...he would be alone again. "I'm not a big social otter and they are more....snobbish then I like..." he admitted.

"Oh..." She looked down a moment before turning her gaze up to him nervously.
"Cornelius...I'm...I don't bother you do I? I knows your not very social...and here I am intruding on all your alone time..." She took a step back and smiled. "I'd be okay alone you know..."
