Craft: N/A
Rank: Candidate
Physical Description:
Rellen has always been the type of girl who warrants a second glance; although she easily blends into a crowd there is something strangely different about her, though these discrepancies seem to be all in the details. Born to parents with dark locks and balmy skin tone, Rellen has always incited wonder for her distinctively muted color pallet. Her glossy ash-gray tresses are thick and very straight, cut in layers till they reach her shoulders. Although her skin is not colorless it often burns long before it obtains shade and so she bears little skin. Her heart shaped face houses almond shaped eyes of hue so dark they appear black and a set of full lips, the bottom of which she tends to chew when she’s nervous.
Standing at about 5’4” Rellen is about an average height for someone her age; lean muscle binds her bones together, lending her the appearance of a runner. She wraps herself in loose-fitting clothing, usually an aged brown vest clasped over an even older white blouse. Fingerless brown leather gloves lace up the back of her forearms, dark linen trousers tuck neatly into hardy leather boots. In her hair she wears a modified lock hairpin, around her neck an old copper key on a chain.
Personality:
As the fouth of six children, Rellen is understandably a little frayed around the edges. Growing up amongst so many siblings on the open road she has never had much privacy or many belongings to which she was sole owner. She is treated like the baby by some and the eldest by others, leaving her unsure of where her responsibilities actually lay. She has a firm, somewhat comfortable relationship with her road roughened father and even takes on some of the men’s chores when her older brothers have their hands full.
Rellen is constantly berated for her selective memory, a side effect of years spent trying to tune out numerous voices of her family. She is quite quirky and curious, though nervous when in strange company. She lives religiously around her belief that a face reflects the soul, always floating near those with laugh lines. Although her mother has tried to instill hold etiquette, Rellen habitually trips over these social graces, leading some to believe she is less educated than she really is.
History:
Rellen’s parents, Grenic and Kotya met and married young before packing up and joining the Vodic caravan, headed by Grenic’s father. The first two born to them were male, followed by four females. The two sons, Trier and Dules, attend to the manual labor and cultivate their trading expertise, both aiming for the patriarchal position when their father eventually passes on. The eldest female, Havori, has been groomed in women’s duties and has become a vital component to the Vodic caravan. Rellen is currently in the midst of her women’s training, given custody of the two youngest, Ollani and Sarai, both under five turns. Rellen, however, is horrifying awful at taking care of the young and in return despises her role as caretaker, yearning instead for the more (in her opinion) vital roles outside the confines of the caravan. Although her mother is steadfast in her refusal to allow Rellen the freedom from women’s work, her father will at times allow the girl to take on man’s chores if he can find no one else. She found her niche with the care of animals which, unlike minding her siblings, she has a natural knack for.
The Vordic caravan has become well known over the turns, often boarding journeymen and master crafters while traveling from hold to hold, and growing in both wealth and reputation. The caravan is currently made up of the families of Grenic’s clan, his two younger brothers and their growing families. While visiting Ista Hold, Rellen was Searched, much to the devastation of her family. The Vordic’s appreciate the Dragon Riders for their efforts during Fall, yet the knowledge of Rellen’s inevitable severance caused quite a scene from the travelers bound by blood. Rellen’s parting gifts included a modified lock hairpin and a copper key strung on a thin chain, both gifts from her father, treasures he had intended to sell to the smiths to be remolded. She often wears the key around her neck, though tucked inside her clothes. The hairpin she wears in moments of sentimentality and nostalgia, and rarely publicly.
Pets: None
Other/Talents: Rellen is a natural with the care of beasts of burden as well as runners; knowing how to both calm and direct the beast beneath her hand. She is a fair cook, though no one’s first choice to prepare a meal.
