The lioness' swelled abdomen ached, instinctual urges to find a burrow and curl up in it took over her mind. Koho had come quickly from the edges of the Firekin in order to find suitable arrangements for the bundles of life inside of her. She had tried to wait as long as possible for her beloved to finish his business, but she had reached her limit. Now she would have to hunt quickly in order to find the perfect burrow, she just hoped she would do so in time. With senses alert to any smells that would warn her of occupation she stuck her slender head into hole after hole, desperately trying to find one big enough. Finally, after sweaty work in the morning sun, an hold fennec fox den appeared of ample size. With practiced swiftness she dove head first in and started pawing out excess dirt in order to enlarge the burrow even more. If she had remained in the deserts of the Firekin should would have had to find a rock cave, since the sand wouldn't have allowed a burrow. She thanked her loving mother for helping her to get back in time.

Soon after a short break for some light sleep, a faint pulling sensation was felt in her back half. Without question she knew it was time. The cream colored head laid down on the cool dirt of the den and waited, letting instinct take over.

((mwali can come and check on her if you want thal, I'll post the first baby soon))

Mwali had helped as best he could in searching for a hole but he hadn't exactally done must justice in the end. However, his massive paws had been quite helpful in expanding the size of the den. He did everything possible to make his mate as comfortable as she could, poking his great maned head into the small hole of the den to check on her, gently licking her forehead and giving her what words of encouragement and devotion that he could manage from the nervous studdering. Once the golden lioness had laid herself down to sleep the red colosis began pacing outside of the den, a low rumbling growl- more or less a sign of anxioty and nervousness- could be heard from his throat. He'd pause now and then, keeping whatever paw had been lifted at the time frozen in place as he looked along the landscape, his green eyes narrowing. He felt oddly dangerous now, protective of his beloved and of his coming children.

Eventually his paws grew weary of pacing and he allowed himself to lay himself down, his head resting on the arch of his paws. Sleep wouldn't come so easy to him, his mind raced with all that had happened, all that could happen. King Mufasa had only recently accepted him into the pride lands as a mere hunter, and just barely seeing as who he was... what he was. As a former prince himself he knew how important pride lineage was to a king. He couldn't help but wonder if the golden lions were as strict in that aspect at his father had been. Would the golden king exile them? Surely not Koho... she was his sister and the two seemed horribly close. But what of him and the cubs? No doubt Koho wouldn't let that happen to her family... but then agian he didn't know the extent of the king's wrath here. Makadari, his own father, would have killed the cubs and the offending sire before the mother as punishment for what she'd done.

Mwali's nose wrinkled at the very thought. Kui hadn't known... had he even known there at the end that his children were half-breeds? That his heart had belonged to a golden lioness? His eyes slowly wondered up to the sky, watching as the light began to fade and stars began to flick. Koho had told him of their pride's religion, that their ancestors were the lights in the sky and it was them that watched over them, guiding fate with gentle and loving paws... but his father.... he hadn't been a kind lion nor a gentle king. What became of him? Or Kui... surely Kui had become a great king dispite the short reign he held. He had been pressured so as a cub, pawned over and given the chance to learn all he needed but did he truely take his father's ways to heart? If only he knew...

Mwali shifted a bit more, turning his head to Jasari and Sukutu to offer them a weak smile.

Finally, his lioness began sounds of displeasure, instantly getting the red giant to his feet, his eyes widening with worry. He nearly stumbled over himself in getting back to the mouth of the den, his large head poking through. "Koho.... is it...t..time?"

Despite severe discomfort, Koho couldn't help but smile weakly at her mate, "Of course it is you silly lion." A softness in her tone revealed the strained nature of her body, even through the dim light. The convulsions gained in strength, and despite Koho's best self control the golden face contorted in a grimace. There was no relief from the unconscious and uncontrolable convulsions. Nature was taking its way with her slender body. Thoughts flashed through the lioness' mind, what in the world was she doing. Why had she surrendered herself to this misery. But at the same moment as those thoughts passed through her painstricken mind, the muscles pushed themselves the hardest they had and would. A soft plop met the new mother's ears and the pain was momentarily halted. There was no rest for the wicked however. Despite her wish to rest, her body moved and the little red bundle of fur met the mother's eyes.

A soft pink tongue started licking the new born cub, tears helping in wash it, Koho was so emotional now! The golden lioness ate up the afterbirth quickly, desperate for the nutrition her body insisted it would give her. Her cub was quickly washed and Koho knew somehow to nudge it wish her nose, hoping it would cry out and proclaim loudly to world of its unhappiness. Mwali! He must know, she looked just like him! "Mwali! She looks just like you, bright red, she's so gorgeous!" The overwhelming happiness bubbled over into her throat and kept the poor thing from being able to yell as loudly as she would have liked, but he had to have heard. He would have to name her, it was tradition.

Mwali wanted to faint at seeing his mate in so much pain, there was nothing he could do to help her other than be there for her. Pulling his head out again he paced in front of the den, snorting from the tension and hoping that it would do some good in returning his breathing to normal. Again she cried out but her voice wasn't alone- another smaller one. His body tensed up, shivers ran from paws to nose and quickly his head was back in the little hole.

His eyes were quickly drawn to the small bundle of red curled into its mother. For a moment all he could do was stare, his mouth falling open. He was a father... for real he was a father. Smiling he pulled his head out of the den and scrambled himself over to the others, "It's a girl! A little girl!" He was horribly excited, moving and talking like the big cub that he often came off as. "A girl!" He whirled around, poking his head back into the hole, his tail lashing at his sides.

A name... she had to have a name. He reached a careful paw into the den, gently rolling the bundle of red and cream fur to where he could see her face better, "......a....sh...she's so... beautiful...", he cleared his throat a bit, gently nudging the cub back to her mother's fur, "...Kianga.... this one will be Kianga."

((I'm on it Midnyght <3 heart ))

The first thing the cub did...well.
What any young creature, who had been secure and warm in the dark security of the womb and suddenly be shown to this bright world would do, she squealed.
She mewed and squealed, a blind, small ball of warm living fur and flesh that wriggled and demanded to be back in the warmth.

All she heard where the muffled, almost deafened voices of her parent's and their scents.

Then, warmth, the warm fur of her mother and she started to calm, mewing and purring softly before crawling towards somewhere where she could feed.
Not only did she have warmth and now a name, but she needed food.

However it wasn't long before she had been pushed over by a huge paw, not knowing it was her very big daddy before being pushed back to mommy's fur and she mewed and squeaked at this pushing and shoving deffinatly.

After that ordeal, it wasn't long till she started to crawl further into the fur, before she found what she was looking for and began to nurse on her mother's warm milk contently.

Koho smile contentedly at the excitement of her mate, he was such a cub himself, she hoped that having children would help him feel more confident in his own power. Especially if Mufasa didn't allow them to stay.... The shout of the girls name broke through her sad thoughts, "Kianga..." The name sounded perfect, it fitted her perfectly, she was perfect, none better in the world. A purr sounded from the depths of the mothers throat at the little one, encouraging her to suckle while Koho waited for the contraction to worsen again.

Then it happened all over again. The pain, she didn't remember it being this hard for other mothers she had assisted... Perhaps it was because it was her first litter... Despite her best efforts she whimpered a bit, having to concentrate on not rolling to hurt her children both inside and outside her body. Her eyes squinched tightly shut in concentration, if she stopped fighting it it would go faster, less work then. She felt others moving inside her, there was a ways to go. The contractions reached the level they had been at once before and then there was relief. Koho's amber eyes arched over to behold the next of her cubs. She felt as if she was looking in a mirror, he had the pale cream fur that was sweaty and sticky all over her own body, but his fathers marking displayed proudly on his shoulder. He had the paler tear lines down his face, just like her.... He was perfect, they both were. "Malik, my little darling, you shall be Malik...." That same soft smile spread over the mother's features, her head turning towards the mouth of the den where that giant mane of fur blocked sunlight and dust, "Malik! His name will be Malik, he has your marking dear..."

She cleaned him swiftly, eating the protein and nutrient rich birthing material and removing the liquid that clinged to his fur. With one giant paw compared to the little life bundle she moved him towards a spot next to his sister, the smell of milk must be heavy in the air from the little girl drinking so sloppily.

The cub's small pink mouth parted in a series of sharp protests. Where was the warmth!? What was this hard thing under his body... he didn't like it, where was the warm softness? Where was he? And most importantly- what in the name of all that was good was going on? The clumsy ball rolled over to it's back, the tiny paws reaching out for something... anything but finding nothing. It frightened him and once again he cried out- more of a squeeking sound than anything, a helpless chirp to show his disatisfaction to his current wet, cold, and blind situation.

Then came the tounge, soft and gentle. His squeeks turned into a display more or less of his approval of that. He liked whatever this giant prickly thing was. His small bobbing head leaned into the tounge, giving small humming chirps, the paws flopping off the ground here and there.

Then there was a giant furry thing! It lifted him up off the big hard thing he had been on. For a moment he squeeked in terror, his own clumsy paws scraping for something- anything only to eventually meet with a rounded soft thing. He could smell something- he wanted it whatever it was and quickly learned how to close the gap between him and the smell. Humming contently, he began nursing, a paw reaching out to inspect whatever this other little fuzz was next to him.

Mwali tilted his head as he inspected the little cub. Golden just like his beloved save for the tiny tufft at the end of his tail and the small ears coming off the sides of his head. He was beautiful, both of them were, Mwali could hardly get out anything above a squeek himself. He was a father- it was so hard to believe. So far a father of two. "Malik...", he chuckled a bit, looking down to the rather loud ball of fluff, "I love it."

He pulled his head from the mouth of the den, rushing back up to the other two with a large grin, "A boy! I'm a father of two!" He wanted to roar that out for everyone to hear- he was a father and damn happy about it.

Giving another excited growl he whipped back around and poked his head into the hole, crouching his body down so there was a bit of the night air coming through, "You're doing wonderful, love.... I'm here."

A deep chuckle began in Koho's throat at her beloved's shouting outside, but it was cut off harshly by the sharpening of contractions. She felt like an old pro now. Relaxing the best she could with two cubs suckling by her belly she let nature guide her through the pain. The sight of the burrow was blurred by the concentration not to cry out, not to let the world know that there was a weak mother and young cubs right here ready for eating. Just get through this and you'll have another beautiful bundle of love. That was all she had to do was get through another one and she would have the loving relief of a new baby. Yet again the contractions reached that familiar painfilled moment, it seemed to last longer now as she pushed her hardest to free the new life from it's bonds. Then relief flooded into her and she leaned quickly forward to care for the new child.

Now this little one looked a little like both of them, but at the same time showed off her lineage. The dark brown circles, many of the Firekin had displayed a similiar brown, perhaps mixing with a bit of Prideland blood to make the patterns. The cream coat and white underbelly obviously from her mother. "Hello Tekeza," Koho breathed to her darling little girl, then louder for Mwali to hear, he would relay it, he always did the big cub! Grooming had commensed through the mother's thoughts as instinct refused to let this cub suffer at all. The birth material was cleared away and safely in the mother's stomach to produce healthy milk for her babies. Tekeza was cleaned off well and the white paws wasted no time in securing her in a warm spot next to her brother.

She had been touched.
By another small body...whoa.
She mewed loudly at the feel of another warm body, her size too, she then began to move her paws as she suckled to feel this newcomer the way he had her.

However at mommies distress she began to mew louder, what on earth was going on?
Then everything calmed and yet another body joined them, a contented purr rumbling through the tiny newborn and coming out like a humm as her younger siblings where born one at a time.

What was going on? The small cub shiverd, the cool air touching her fur for the first time. She did not make a sound as her mother cleaned her gently, but gave one short mew when her mother placed her next to her siblings. She layed there motionless for a moment, trying to get her bareings, then instinctively pushed forward towards the n****e to drink. It was warm and tasty! She might get used to this. Then she turned her head towards her brother, sniffing the air a little and nudgeing him on the side. What was this? It was furry like her, and smelled like her. She nudged him agian.

Malik gave a sharp protest at the first seires of prodding in response to his own little investigation. A clumsy paw lifted up in the air, kind of bobbing around as if he meant fully to club his older sister for the intrusion on his space. Then came another prod and another loud protest from the little cub. He lost his balance with only one paw up in the air and rolled over clumsily, bumping into his younger sister. Giving an annoied squeek he pawed despertaely at the air, his pink mouth parting in perhaps the loudest series of cries he had let out this far, demanding to know where the big hard thing that had been under his paws had gone- where was the warm drink stuff? What was the meaning of these two other balls?! Why was the big fluffy warm drink stuff making thing making such a loud sound, and what in the name of his limited knowlage was that terrible sound coming from further away?

Mwali was practally beating himself with his tail as it lashed about- much like a dog's would. He continued to move between the den and his foster children, announcing what was going on, when it was going on, and how. How the cubs were already nursing, how they looked, how one just wouldn't keep quiet, the genders, the names, and occassionally- the string of babble that really couldn't be translated.

Once again he returned to the den, leaning forward into the cave to lick his mate's face, letting her know that not only was he there for her but he couldn't be happier.

((*snugs thal* we couldn't go on without you you silly!))

Worry furrowed the golden creature's brow, did her cubs need her or were they just complaining? She moved a little and shifted the wayward cubs back to her body with a gentle paw. That sholud keep them plenty happy, or were they tired? Being a mother was far different that simply being a nanny.... Distraction again came as the now common contractions rose in strength once more. This time they didn't hurt as badly, perhaps she was getting used to the process.... Relief came more quickly, though she was still tired from the previous births so that it was only instinct and love that kept her grooming her newly born.

Once the darling was clean and moved to an adequate nursing spot Koho watched the babies considering the latest name of her darling boy. After a moment of thought on her and Mwali's lives she came upon Kisogo, a mixture of the royals bloodlines from both of them and Koho's own name, Eagle. "Kisogo it is then." She purred as she rubbed her crown against Mwali's affectionate tongue, "What do you think of our babies so far dear?" Koho certainly loved them.

Kisogo let out a yelp, it was so cold all of a sudden! And he was suddenly very aware of the moist air in his little lungs. And his empty stomach. But soon there was the warm tongue of his mother clearing the liquid away from his mouth and nose, allowing his fur to puff up and warm his little body. Instinctively he wished to find a spot to nurse, and he was assisted by the commanding paw of his mother. He quickly found the source of the milk and drank greedily, purring contentedly.
