Tully had blossomed into a beautiful, opinionated, almost always spirited palui. It had been expected of her to become so, seeing as how her father had been the last leader of the palu, but now Tully found herself dealing with the hurt of her father dying on an almost daily basis, which wasn’t very easy for her. She tended to become upset and quiet and would distance herself from the rest of the coalition in order to get her bearings straight. She was slowly pulling herself back up from her abyss of unhappiness, but she was still tackling her sorrows on a daily basis.

Now, Tully’s younger brother was trying to become the new leader. She didn’t quite understand her younger brother sometimes. She could remember him when he was growing up and the innocent, naive questions he would ask her. But, why was he doing this? Didn’t he realize he could tear them all apart? She hated conflict, which was exactly what this was. They were going to get into a huge fight, and her baby brother would end up hurt or worse, dead. She supported everything the new leader had been doing for them. He seemed to be making good decisions for the palu, helping them to become stronger and better equipped for anything that could come their way. She didn’t see why her brother had to go and try to mess up the good things all of the palu now had. It was wrong, and on one level she hated her brother for letting his big ego get the better of him and push him into rash decisions. But, she also admired him for standing up for their family, for what was, technically, his rightful place among the palu. If it came down to what she thought it would, she would stand beside her brother because it was her duty to support him, but, she was deciding to stay out of it...well, at least just for the time being.

After thinking about the situation with the two male palu, Tully was determined to take advantage of what was left of her day and wander about the jungle. She felt it was the most peaceful place, and she wanted some time to relax. She found a familiar clearing in the jungle, one she liked to call “hers,” and settled down. It wasn’t every day that she was not needed by her brother or someone else and she was going to make the most of what little time she knew she had. Her thoughts traveled to her dear mother, who she could barely remember because she had died shortly after her brother was born. Tully glanced down at her only remembrance of her mother, the crystal dangling on a piece of gold twine around her neck that she now felt incomplete without. Her father had given it to her on one of those days when she missed her mother the most. He had told her that her mother had worn it everywhere, never letting it leave her neck, either. It had been a present from her father to her mother, a token of his love, and Tully now treasured it dearly. Tully missed her father so very much. He had been the only person who had always been there for her, when her friends had hurt her feelings, when she had fallen and hurt herself, or when she was wishing her mother were there with them, and now that he was gone, she felt as if a part of her was lost. Sometimes, she felt she had found that piece of herself again when she looked at her brother, who reminded her so much of their father, but the feeling never lasted long enough, and she soon found herself back where she had begun. It was at this point in time that Tully dozed off, dreaming of their family, how it should have been with their mother, not with her stepping in to become the motherly figure her brother had needed. She stirred in her slumber, growling under her breath, but not waking. Soon, her sleeping became dreamless and, for that short while, she was absolutely carefree, with no worries, no burdens, and no hurt from the past that had caused her so much pain.
