It had been a while since Alaska had wandered somewhat familiar smelling grounds. Her fore-hooves swept the grounds before her, tapping things she would have to mind and step over or around. Her ears pitched themselves around the top of her head as she walked slowly and far less then gracefully at times. Stopping every now and again, she would listen to the area around her, something sounded familiar about the place, but she couldn't quite put her hoof one it. The sounds of spring were coming to life, the birds coming home from their winter wanderings as well as the weather was getting far warmer then what the mare had hoped. Still she missed her winter home, where the cold winds blue in gales and the snows were harsher then the hottest summer sun... Well that was what she had thought when she traveled unprotected from the north to the southern summer lands.
Lost within her own thoughts she had started walking once more and bumped into something. Testing with a hoof she found it only a tree, she walked around it. Shaken from the dusty shelves of her own mind, Alaska came back to herself as she nearly tumbled into a small stream with a small gasp like yelp escaped her. Her blank white eyes through themselves open as she scrambled back from the small edge that lead to the stream. My she was completely out of it this day, what was it about this place that made her so... Distracted? Standing silently, her evergreen tail twitching behind her as she silently scolded herself for not being more careful. She hadn't know that perhaps someone was nearby that might have heard her gasp. No, she was too caught up in her own thoughts to realize that maybe, just maybe, she wasn't alone...

Ashrialto bowed his head to avoid getting thumped by a low limb, and trotted along. The forest path was dappled with sunlight, abandoned aside from himself and the occasional fluttering visitor. Legs lifting high with each step, he hummed a cheerful tune to himself as he went about his way. His movements were graceful and nearly silent, propelling him along. Well, he'd raced Aureate today already... And apparently the wind was in better form, for he had won. With much cheerful banter and the threat of a rematch, the uni-tailed stallion had gone a separate way. The morning was fine and warm, but he fancied a good wading in the stream that ran through these parts... It began in a meadow with a cheerful little waterfall, and that was always a soothing place to visit. The sound of a startled yelp spooked him away from his cheerful humming and wandering thoughts. It was the sound of a female, and she seemed distressed! Kicking his heels up he cantered along the path, made a sharp turn to cut through a less thick brush, leapt a fallen log and landed along the bank of the stream. Left, nothing. To the right! Wait a minute?! "Alaska?" He rumbled as he moved toward her, noting the wild white eyes and the distressed breathing. "Lady Alaska, is that you?" Hadn't she said something about returning to the lands of snow that were so dear to her? When they had gone their separate ways, he had not thought to see her again...

Ears twitching to the sides she stepped back some and turned her head she thought she had heard something off to one side. Tail switching behind her, she listened as the sounds of hooves came towards her, and also the sounds of a very familiar voice. She had heard that voice a while ago, a long while ago for sure. The tone reminded her of someone, someone she had met back when she had first came to the southern summer lands.
"Ash?" she asked softly as the hooves had come close enough for those they belonged to to hear her.
Turning her head away she listened to the stream before her before backing up some. She didn't want to fall head long into the stream, Alaska turned towards where she had heard the other coming from, hoping that nothing would be standing too close that she would knock into it. Oh, she wasn't having such a good day, too many things on her mind, way too many things.

"Alaska!" He chuckled. "Well, twist my tail! It really is you.. I had thought you were returning home.." Quickly he moved toward her and used his tail to pull away a branch before she could smack her foreleg against it. "Careful there, My Lady... These woods are a bit treacherous, to be sure." He grinned, forgetting for a moment she couldn't see the pleased expression. "It is very good to see you again." He had missed the iron-willed mare when they had parted. She had seemed like a steadfast friend, and a formidable opponent. Certainly someone he wanted on his side.. But if one's heart was far away, he couldn't blame her for following it. Whatever the reason she was here, he was thankful he had lost to Aureate and had decided to go wading... Very thankful.

Ears perching themselves forward she heard the item before her being moved as the voice came closer. It was indeed Ash the strange stallion she had met when she had first come to the place. Shaking her head a little, eyes closing for a moment before opening their blankness to stare at his direction.
"No, I haven't left the lands of the summer seasons. To be frank, I've kinda misplaced the path that would lead me back to the northern winter lands. So, I have chosen to remain here, at least the winters aren't so harsh and the seasons change gradually." She nodded as her curled tail twitched behind and over her flank at what might have been attracted to it.
When there was mention that the woods were a bit treacherous, well that was true. The trees here seemed to be close together and she was having a bit of a problem navigating around them. She had to squeeze herself through a few spaces and had found her way here. Breathing space at last, though the ledge to the water seemed a bit up there. Shaking her thoughts away, she turned her mind toward him.
"So how have you been? It feels like we haven't chatted in a long time. Find anyone that tickles your fancy yet?" A grin came over her face, though it was a clearly personal question.

He was pleased to find her looking so well, after all, when last they had spoken she had seemed to be missing her homeland quite terribly. The fact that she had grown accustomed enough to the Kawani lands -and even begun to like it enough to stay- was a huge change. True enough, the winters were easier, but Ash was partial to autumn as well... A pity there wasn't a land that was always the cool brush of autumn or the refreshing bite of winter, but then, nature was the way it was for a reason. "I am glad you have decided to stay." He smiled again. "That means that perhaps I shall see you more... If you had gone home, I am not quite sure we would ever meet again.. And I still call you friend, even if you do frighten me at times." He teased her with a playful nose to her cheek, dancing back out of reach in the next moment. "I have been well enough, and we truly have not spoken in a long time. Time enough for me to meet many fine ladies, but none have truly captivated me..." He gave a shrug. "And you? Is there a herd of stallions waiting to offer you assistance?" He pretended to be alarmed. "Should I go?"

Her voice rang out in laughter at the mention of stallions wanting to assist her. Blind eyes closed as her frosted face reached skywards as her laughter rang louder, almost sounding like bells, some off beat of course. When she quieted, her head shook evergreen locks rustling over her shoulders as a forelock crossed from behind an ear. "No, there are no stallions hanging around, I haven't really met that many since meeting you. Seems they all have their own ideas of mares and I'm out of the picture. Besides, who would want to hang around someone like me?" Though she was far from dependent on someone else to get around, Alaska had made it clear a couple times she could do well enough on her own even though those she could remember insisted on her having a helper of sorts.
"But I don't think I could ever go home, the path I took to get here seems so far away now, lost within this sea of black." Her shoulders gave themselves a shrug as her eyes remained closed, she knew that Ash knew she couldn't see, another spurt of giggles came as he had nosed at her cheek. A fair assumption that this once liked her, but she wasn't so sure of her own pent up feelings. She had been lonely for a time, while wandering the summer lands, as she had come to call them, though summer only lasted so long. Ash seemed to always be so uplifting from her silent wanderings, perhaps he could be considered more then a friend.
Light colored hooves pawed their way forwards as she reached out towards his scent. Head low at first before her ears twitched to the sounds of his breathing and she raised up. Ears flicking again, she stepped uneasily forwards again, though he had sounded only a couple paces away, to her that seemed almost like miles, why had he moved so far in the first place? Head tilting one way for a moment as his scent seemed closest, his breathing almost in her ears, turning just slightly, her nose hopefully touched the side of his face, this was delicate work, and the space between her brows creased a little in what looked like overwhelming concentration.

The teasing was light, but the friendship heartfelt. It was nice to cross paths with an old companion, and to see Alaska thriving gave him hope for others whom he had not seen for a long time. Perhaps he would seek some of them out, see what had become of them while he had been wandering. But those were thoughts and tasks for another time.
In silence he watched her throw her head back and laugh, smiling softly to himself. "Well, I do not hold much hope for those of my gender then, if they do not know how glorious you are. More the fools are they, and it is their loss and not yours. As for who would wish to spend time with you, I most certainly would count myself in their number."
He could understand wanting to return to one's homeland, he had felt the same when he'd been away from this place. Still, he was fairly sure he would not transition as well as she to losing his sight. "Are there any you could speak to of the old path, that you maybe could describe the way to so they could aid you? If you wish to go, I would do all I can to serve in that. Though I would miss you when you had gone."
Her soft giggle made him grin, laughing softly in return. When she stepped toward him he held fast, tail lashing back and forth and idly rustling the leaves on the ground. He hoped the faint movement would help her better locate him, and when she gently nosed his cheek he chuckled softly to himself.
"Regardless, it does not hinder you. You are are fearsome even without your sight." Kesmi Going to continue on with this thread rather than creating a new one, hope that's ok.
