He was forced to run away, like a coward.

Nils slammed his fist angrily against a tree, the bark scratching his hand and leaving small, white marks on his skin. "Damn it..." He whispered, looking up to the sky, which was blocked by branches and leaves. A small squirrel came into his line of vision, scurrying up and down the tree, just minding its own business.

A grin crossed his face, and he softly began to play for only the small, forest animal...

(( Some ever so ominous accompaniment. ))

Rrgh, that was... painful. The druid hobbled through the dimly lit forest paths, shreds of light illuminating small portions of his face. His left hand, now stained with darkened blood, clutched his right side, while his right hand clutched the left arm. With the pressure, the bleeding had gone to a minimum, still occasionally dripping to the ground.

"Ugh, I was careless! Should have killed that little brat when I had the chance." Rei glanced towards the sky, breathing a sigh of relief as sunset began to darken the sky, making a pursuit even more difficult than it would already be. As the boy stumbled along, his balance faltered, and he fell to the ground.

The impact on his already occupied arms was less than comfortable, causing him to emit a pained yelp. Damnit, I can't go on like this. I need to do something about these wounds... That's it! As the boy propped himself up into a sitting position, he conjured a tendril, making it wrap around his injured arm.

With a somewhat jerky motion, the boy grabbed the tendril, and ripped it in half, wrapping the severed end into a knot to bind the wound. As the dark stump writhed on the ground, a dark mist crept from it, floating into the air. As small traces of defiled blood seeped from the withered stump, the grass around it became brown and withered, the ground turning an ashen black.

The boy arose, able to use both arms now. Grasping at the mist in the air, the blood fell from his hands like water through a faucet. With his hands 'cleaned' of his past crimes, he began walking again. This time, only his right hand was clutching his side, leaving his left free to defend himself. Whatever that stupid girl did to me, it's bad. She carved right through my attacks, and then I started hearing voices. To make matters even worse, I recognized those voices. As the Druid caught sight of a clearing in the distance, a faint tune invaded his ears, almost beckoning him to come closer.

Next time I see that little wench, she's dead. Rei pulled the hand from his side, trying to assume a relatively normal posture. Where there's music, there's people. And where there's people, there are unsuspecting pieces of filth that'll offer me hospitality...

(( Yeeeeees. >D ))

The squirrel scurried quickly down the tree and immediately ran up Nils' arm and perched on his shoulder, like a parrot on the shoulder of a typical pirate. The grin didn't leave as he let out a low laugh. He was able to successfully ensnare the animal and now it twitched slightly, waiting for a command. He laughed again, pulling the small knife from his belt and holding it up, letting the blade capture the minimal sunlight.

... But now what? The wheels in his mind began to turn as a plan began to form. He held the knife close to his skin, the blade mere inches away from his arm...

And then, he sensed something. His ever-handy sense of danger was telling him that something (though he wasn't sure what) was approaching. The bard smirked, gripping the knife tightly. ... Foolish. He played the ebony flute again. Immediately the squirrel jumped off his shoulder, heading in the direction of the intruder. The squirrel's purpose was to distract the person enough for them to say something. From there, he could (probably) identify who it was.

He held his knife ready, pointed in the direction of the intruder, prepared to strike.

Rei got closer to the clearing, visions of idiots that would mindlessly care for him, then die like lambs at the slaughter filled his mind. Ah, if only. Knowing my luck, it'll be some simpleton bandits... ugh. A look of disgust crossed the boy's face, becoming more apparent the closer he got to the clearing.

Chirps and squeaks broke the silence as a small, adorable little squirrel wandered up to the Druid, practically dancing in front of him. Oh, look, a little squirrel. Nothing suspicious about the speedy little buggers ever coming close to people.

Pointing a finger at the animal, a tendril shot up, ensnaring the rodent. As the appendage squeezed the little mammal, purple steam rose from the cracks, followed by wet squishy noises as the tendril evaporated the squirrel like food in a stomach. I always did want to catch a squirrel.

Continuing to make his way forward, Rei entered the clearing, looking cautiously at the figure on the other side. ...Him? What's he doing he- A knife shone in the moonlight.

Without hesitation, Rei pulled a tendril from the ground near the boy, having it in an attacking position should a conflict emerge. As the moon reached the middle of the night sky, its light refracted off of the blade, showing the owner's face.

"...Nils, eh? Never thought you'd have it in you to use a weapon, of all things."

The squirrel let out a small, pathetic squeak before it met its end.

Nils remained still, hearing the last cry. ... Dead already, eh? Well, didn't get me a voice, but I know it's a user of magic. I would have heard some sort of "kaTHUNK" if it was from a weapon. He kept his knife up. ... Whoever it is, they are certainly not hesitant.

And then, he got his answer. A familiar voice (Though a bit colder, he noted) calling his name. "... Rei? What the hell are you doing here? Last I saw you, you were fighting the little knight." His eyes adjusted to the darkness, revealing the druid. He paused for a moment, just staring at his old companion. Dark magic was wrapped tightly around his arm, probably being used as a makeshift bandage of some sort. Rei had created a tendril, ready to bind or slice or snap with a simple command.

"You didn't have to kill my scout, you know... just wanted to make sure it wasn't someone else. You understand, right?" He said in a sickeningly sweet manner. His hand rested by the dragon stone hanging from his neck. "Now, what are you doing here? What did I do deserve the pleasure of being in the presence of you?" He gave a twisted grin, almost mocking the druid.

"... You lost, didn't you? Wandered into the forest to escape death, and happened to stumble upon me..." Nils shrugged. "You should be pretty damn thankful I wasn't anyone else. Anyone else, and you would have been dead." He tossed a vial towards Rei; a vulnerary, one that it was just chance that he had with him. Hell, he didn't even remember bringing it along with him.
But he certainly was glad he had it, even if he had just given it away. He chuckled slightly. "... Well? Thank me already. I'm not trying to kill you, and I just gave you a vulnerary."

Rei laughed, making his way over to a stump, so he could relax, if only for a minute. Looking at the bard, Rei became somewhat concerned. The innocent, weak boy he'd known had the look of a seasoned fighter, eyes of a man who'd seen thousands die by his hand. "Well, you should be glad I am here, kid."

Rei removed the tendril from around his arm, removing the top of his robe from around his chest. The gash in his side was black and jagged, with darkened blood still visible in the large slice. The skin surrounding the wound was warped, a pale color, with veins of dark purple spreading a few centimeters from the wound. The cut on his arm, however, was significantly smaller, already covered with a purplish-crimson scab, courtesy of the tendrils during the earlier confrontation. "I didn't lose, I had a 'tactical retreat." The boy laughed again, trying to make the situation a bit more lighthearted than one of them bleeding from the side. "But really, I almost killed the girl, and was about to gut her like a little pig, and then these voices... just this force stopped me. I couldn't even touch her damn spear."

Rei caught the vial, removing the small cork from the top. "And to make that whole fiasco worse, all of a sudden, she could just waltz through my attacks like she was a blasted Bishop!" The boy poured a small amount of the salve on two of his fingers, and rubbed it into the scab on his arm. Pouring the rest of it into his palm, Rei stiffened his back, and held his breath as he applied the liquid to the gash in his side.

Wincing as the medicine sterilized the cut, Rei continued to speak. "Pleasure of my presence, huh? Well, you could say that I was just..." The boy put on an obviously cynical tone as he continued, a smirk crossing his lips. "...absolutely enthralled by the presence I'd heard, and could do nothing but follow it to the source."

Rei dispelled the tendril next to his ally, pulling his shirt back on and assuming a more calmed posture, one less suggesting that he was wounded. "It's a real shame, though. Here I was, thinking I'd run into some damn bumpkins that'd feed me and heal me up in no time, and I find you."

A sly look crept across Rei's lips as he kept on talking. "Hey, your fiery little doppelganger isn't around, and you're out here, all alone. What's been going on with you, then? A little lover's squabble back at the dragon nest?"

Nils smirked slightly, knife still in hand, letting Rei talk about his battle and letting him heal himself. He wasn't about to go ahead and help him more. He was already generous enough.

He was about to make a witty response when the druid mentioned a certain someone. Nils let out a cold laugh before shrugging his shoulders casually. "... Have not a damn clue. Out somewhere. Makes things a bit easier, though, since if he was around, I probably would still be running. He'd be shouting 'Kaoru!!' and firing Flametongue after Flametongue at my feet." He sighed softly, letting the smirk on his face transform into something darker. "... Although he would have been a damn powerful puppet, don't you think?" He grinned dangerously at the boy sitting on the stump.

"Now," He spun the knife around with a surprising amount of skill before sheathing it again. "It sounds like you still damaged her pretty badly. Would I be correct with saying that?" He began to pace in front of Rei, arms crossed behind his back, staring slightly upwards. "... Might as well try to put as many of them out of commission as possible, right?"
PostPosted: Sun Apr 12, 2009 5:45 pm

Rei began cackling at the bard's casual use of the word 'puppet.' "Really, now?" A triumphant stare came from the Druid as he stared down the bard. "Looks like you finally took my advice to use that flute, I'd say." Rei stretched his arms above his head, the joints getting sore from holding wounds for as long as they were.

"How has that flute been working out for you, anyway?" Rei pulled out the Erebus tome, showing off the cover to Nils, the etchings shining in the moonlight. "I got a new toy, too, if you didn't notice from my handiwork out in that field.

A grim look came across Rei's face as the bard brought up the fight from before. "Of course I kicked her around a bit. Would you expect otherwise?" A malicious grin came across his face as he finished talking about how he 'trounced' Amelia. "But, I was really outnumbered. It was myself versus the girl, with three bishops right outside my barrier." An incredulous look came across his face as his story continued. "Two of 'em even had the gall to climb the damn barrier. I swear, all the 'holy men' are basket cases hidden by white robes..."

Rei looked over in Nils's general direction, looking carefully into the bard's eyes. The druid was a bit surprised to see a purely cruel gaze be returned, as if he were a different person than when they had last met. "So... what caused the change of heart with the flute?"

Nils shrugged casually when Rei mentioned the flute. "I don't know, really. I have it, so why the hell should I not use it? Why the hell should I be stuck in a supportive position because I started out there?! It makes no sense!!" He was speaking louder now, an untapped fury suddenly surging and fueling his passionate words.

He took a deep breath, urging himself to calm down. It would do them no good to be caught because of his silly shouting. "... Anyways. You said you were outnumbered?" A grin grew on his face as he pulled the knife out again, staring at the blade for a moment before looking at Rei. "I think I might have an idea..."

He leaned in and whispered softly into Rei's ear. After a few minutes, he pulled away and smirked. "Well...? How does it sound?"

Rei went slightly wide-eyed at the kid's outburst. Hardly something one would expect from calm, cool Nils. As the boy walked over to his ear with a proposition, a twisted smile slid across Rei's face. As the plan was uttered, the smile grew bigger and bigger, until the bard pulled away, his idea complete.

"Well...." Rei looked off into the vast expanse of trees, then up at the moon. "It's absolutely perfect!" The boy hopped up, giving the smaller one a hug. "You're finally listening to reason! You're using your talent for a cause, not just sitting around! It's amazing!" Rei smiled as he embraced the boy. Good! Maybe if he outlives his usefulness, he could serve as a great diversion should things turn dicey...

Nils was certainly a bit startled by Rei's actions. Still, he hugged Rei in return. "Good! Now, I'll need to borrow some paper..."

His mind was already beginning to calculate how to make his plan pull off perfectly. It'd take some luck, strength, and even more luck.
I can do this. He told himself confidently before beginning to laugh.

Things were about to get rather interesting...

"Paper...?" Rei rummaged through his things before pulling out his Flux tome. "There it is..."

As the Druid removed a page from the book, magical energy crackled faintly, trying to contain the energies in the page inside of the book. When the book closed, the paper became old and faded, great for writing evil things on.

"There we go!" The Druid said, a pleased tone in his voice, as he handed the page to the scheming bard.

Nils nodded, taking the paper. "Why, thank you!" He said in an overly cheerful manner. He then proceeded to pluck a few pine needles of a nearby tree. Finally, he took the knife and made a clean slice into his own arm, not too deep but enough to get a good amount of blood. The bard wasn't lucky enough to have a pen of some sort, so he had to resort to using blood as ink.

Dipping the tip of the pine needle into a bead of blood, he began to scratch out his message of the piece of paper. A grin grew on his face as continued to write, eventually folding up the paper into a small rectangle and writing the addressee's name clearly on the paper.

With the note finished, he tugged a bit at his scarf a bit, pulling it tightly before cutting of a shred to be used as a way to secure the note. Nils then brought the cursed flute to his lips. "... You might want to plug your ears." He began to play again, ensnaring another little squirrel. He tied the note to the squirrel, played instructions for the animal, and watched it dart off with the note in tow.

He cackled softly, sitting down on a stump. Now, to wait for the prey to come... He crossed one leg over the other. "Come to me..."
