The sun was finally setting and she'd come out of hiding in the small grove of trees she was currently calling home. She preferred twilight to any other time of day for some reason. It was beautiful. The bright lights of the day being wrapped in the embrace of the night sky. The glow from the lantern around her neck shown slightly now that the sun was loosing it's power.
Shaking her head to clear her eyes of the fall of her mane she looked out over the flat fields over towards the mountains. She had always wondered what lurked in the foothills but hadn't ever been able to make herself journey that far from her grove.
One day ...

Night was the time of day he generally enjoyed more when it came to caring for his own needs. The darkness was something that he was used to, even if he was a sight to see in the daylight. It was his time to be alone at this time; time to reflect and recharge...
Of course, the hours between were also beautiful and the rose tint that the glass shielding his eyes added to the colors of sunset was always impressive in its own little way... No less so now than it had been any other time he'd viewed it over the years in the past.

Taking a deep breath she headed around the part of her grove that was closest to the mountains. She knew she couldn't get too close to them before having to return home but she could do a bit of exploring.
Lantern bobbing along as she trotted down a small path she smiled at the fireflys that came to inspect her light.

His tail flickered as he paused for a moment, dried leaves shaking free from where they'd been clinging to the ends. It had been some time since he'd ventured this far out; some time since he'd ventured at all. Something was leading him though, something that he felt compelled to respond to... Amusing enough to make him crack an odd grin, the thought of temptation being tempted.
An odd laugh soon followed, one that crackled as it hit the air. It might have started him had it not been a sound he'd heard before... It was just an old sound; old and unused with a bit of the strangeness that seemed to linger around him. There was more to it though... There had to be.

She paused as an odd sound reached her ears. She couldn't remember ever hearing something like that before and wondered what was wandering around out there. She'd heard plenty of stories about what could lurk in the dark but she'd never met any of those things.
She had the stars above to guide her and the one around her neck to keep a light to their darkness. Shaking it off she continued along her path.

Still grinning he took another step forward, head giving a light toss to move strands of mane away from blocking what line of sight his visor permitted him. He wanted to see the night spreading before him as the sun finished slipping beneath the horizon. It was always such a beautiful blanket... Like one he'd gladly let fall down around him if that was the way it should be.
Of course he soon realized that he was not the only one out this evening... There was another just beyond his range of scent or sight... One that he could hear, if only for the soft clink of metal. "Hmm..."

Humming softly to herself she paused to look down into a small pond. The few stars out already glittered in the reflection and were quickly drowned out by her lantern. Leaning down she took a careful sip before straightening up. The soft sound of the stars wrapped around her tail chiming fell over her ears without notice.
looking up she watched the stars try to shine through the last of the sun. "Star light star bright ...."

First star I see tonight... He continued on with the little rhyme that he heard the voice not far from him saying as he slowed his movements so that the rustle of his tail seemed to blend in with the gentle breeze blowing through the trees. He didn't want to startle her just yet.
The voice, whoever it belonged to, sounded young... At least that's what he assumed from just listening. Not a foal, no, but perhaps a younger mare, still impressionable. He found himself wondering, briefly, what it was she wished for.

She sighed softly and didn't bother to finish the rest of the rhyme out loud. She knew the power of stars and they didn't really grant wishes. They just showed you how to make those wishes come true yourself.
Shaking her head she continued on the small path. The trees seemed to be rustling a bit more than normal for the slight breeze but not enough that she really paid any mind to it.

When she didn't continue he stepped closer, catching a glimpse of a starry blue coat; beautiful. He watched her for a moment before daring to interrupt the moment she made an attempt to walk away from him without knowing that he as there. "... How are wishes to be granted if you don't give voice to them, little one.?"
