((Edit 6/28/09: His journal is here. Updated age, added/edited a few things in personality and history.))
((I wasn't sure if the custom contest candidates would be eligible for one of the other eggs if they weren't chosen for the custom slots, so hopefully having him approved will mean he can? If not, then that's fine, he'll be all set for the next hatching <3))
Name: Koios (K'os post Impression) Age: 17 Sex: Male Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Craft: Healer Rank: Apprentice Physical Description: Standing at 5'7", Koios is a bit below average height for boys his age but just as strong, although he makes up for his lack of height with greater speed and agility (better to dodge flying objects with). His shoulder-length brown hair is always swept back into a ponytail at the nape of his neck, and usually ends up with a small curl or two at the ends. His skin is fair, and his rich hazel eyes are flecked with a honeyed gold hue, and his slightly freckled cheeks and nose are usually hidden away behind a scroll more often than not. He can usually be seen wearing earthy colors and muted tones, trying to blend in as much as possible. Personality: Awkward, asocial, and nervous are three good words to describe this youth. Having lost most of his friends at an early age, with only his mother around, he never really went through the awkward stages normal children, and ultimately teenagers, go through. He avoided most others, especially those his age, after he arrived at the Weyr; instead, he went straight to reading scrolls and learning his Craft as best he could. As such, he doesn't like to draw attention to himself at all, and he's very easily embarassed, frequently not knowing what to do or say in almost any situation, so he thinks avoiding people is a good alternative. This makes him rather nervous around other candidates and people his age, especially the girls, but the latter mostly because of his mother's half-drunken rants about bringing b*****d children home. He never really fully understood what she meant in those rants, but he knew enough that women were the root of it, so the ingrained urge to avoid the opposite sex is rather strong.
It's also due to these bouts of ranting, among other things, that he has a sort of inferiority complex; his mother would constantly belittle him, telling him he'd never amount to anything close to what his father was, and how he didn't deserve even the floor to sleep on. Eventually he started believing her, and now that's such a basic belief of his that he no longer questions it, but rather questions if it's alright that he even has what he does, as he's not sure he should have it. Others probably think him rather strange, shooting furtive, sidelong glances after receiving an extra large portion of food, or something he doesn't normally have, because he's unsure if he's allowed to have it. He also doesn't think he can do much of anything (his Craft excepted); this lack of self-confidence is also due to his mother's constant belittling.
He feels much more comfortable taking orders than giving them, and will do just about whatever the leader of a group or some such will ask of him - within reason, of course. Despite not really knowing what to do in most situations, he has no problem telling someone no if he doesn't agree with what they're saying, but if it evolved into an argument of being right or wrong, he'd sooner walk away than waste his time. Besides, confrontation draws lots of attention, and that's something he doesn't want. All that aside, if given a leadership position (at least until he regains his confidence) he would most likely relinquish it to someone he thinks is more capable than he.
Besides all of that, those that are close to him (or will be) find him a rather odd, eccentric person, with his own ideas on how to do things, and a very intelligent and skilled person at his Craft. He's extremely loyal to anyone deemed a friend, which is a very hard title to come by with him, as he's deathly afraid of anyone he cares about suddenly up and leaving him all alone. History: The only son of a green rider father and journeyman weaver mother, Koios spent most of his days with his mother in their cothold, although he did get to travel to the Weyr on occasion when his father would allow him to. However, tragedy struck right after Koios's eleventh Turn - all he knew was that his father's Green had died somehow, and in a state of inconsolable mourning his father had eagerly followed his beloved, irreplacable other half. Koios didn't know if the Green's death was on purpose or an accident, but he knew for sure his father's was suicide, although his mother never really said it in those words. She wasn't really able to speak coherently after that point, anyway - having no other half to console her, she turned to the only other thing that could suffice: alcohol. The young boy turned away the few friends he had, not wanting them to know what had happened to his shattered family, and he set out to do all of the work he could for their small farm. His mother grew to be consistently less helpful, taking to throwing things at him, usually an empty bottle, or blaming him for everything that had happened.
By his thirteenth Turn he'd noticed something odd - his mother had started bringing strange men home more and more frequently, and by his sixteenth Turn his family was blessed with a daughter. It had been only a few days since his half-sister's birth, and when he returned from the field his mother was home but his sister was missing. Alarmed and concerned, he asked his mother about the babe's whereabouts, but the completely calm, sober response of, "What baby?" alarmed him even more. He woke up the next morning to find his mother distraught and incomprehensible, sobbing and coddling her newest bottle of booze. After coming in from the fields that day she had left somewhere, and when she didn't return by sunset of the following day, Koios became distraught himself. All the family he'd ever known was gone. He tried to run the small cothold alone, but after two or three sevendays without seeing or hearing from his mother, he abandoned his shattered, empty home and traveled to the Weyr, a place he hadn't been in several Turns. Finding his skills leaned towards that of the healers, he set out with a group of Traders to the Healer Hall so he could become an apprentice and learn as much as he could. He hadn't even thought about becoming a dragonrider until he was Searched, with his eighteenth Turn just four or five sevendays away, but he was ecstatic all the same and left within the mark back to Ista. Pets: None Other/Talents: He's very skilled at his Craft thus far, being a quick learner, although he doesn't think he's ready to become a Journeyman for another good 20 Turns or so. Ever the optimist, this one. However, it's the one thing in his life that he takes pride in, and with how he is, he doesn't normally pride himself in anything, so he tentatively calls it a step in the right direction. A very slow step.
Will this character be a candidate? Yes ;D
Picture: None. ;<

I do have a question or two, mainly concerning his coming to the Weyr and subsequently becoming a Healer. Did he go from the Weyr to the Healercraft Hall and back? That's the only way I can think of that he could become an official apprentice, instead of just someone who hangs around and helps, given that all training for apprentices must occur at the main crafthall.
And unfortunately, he won't be eligible for this next clutch, but the one after that he will be.

Okay, that's fine <3 And uhh, I'm not sure - I'm still figuring out where all of the buildings and such are IC and I didn't know that the Weyr and Halls were in different places XD; He would've arrived at the Weyr and then realized his affinity for healing, and would've traveled to the Healer Hall (probably in a group, since traveling in Pern is rather dangerous >w> ), and would stay there until being Searched. Want me to revise it a bit?
Edit: I revised it a bit; is that okay? And sorry, I'm still trying to figure everything out ;;' I need to read the Pern books, and I've never played the game, so I wasn't aware that the Weyr and Healer Hall were so far apart XD;;

Yep, better. <3 Just one last thing (I SUCK SORRY)... Pern doesn't have prostitution. I don't know if you were implying his mother was one. I mean, they have loose women who will sleep with anyone, but they don't have that sort of paid exchange of services we do. I didn't know which one you meant.

Issok <3 I know I always have a million questions XD;; And no, I didn't mean she was a prostitute. XD That didn't even enter my mind when I wrote it, actually XD; I was thinking more along the lines of her trying to deal with her husband's death still, although obviously it didn't help much, if at all. XD;
