The green butterfly that had haunted LSD as a pup had changed, morphed into a cruel reminder of the fateful day he lost his leg. The pain was what he remembered most, the swirl of colors beaconing him towards them. So bright, but he turned away and moved into the darkness when he heard his sisters voice.
His sister coming out unscathed was all he could be greatful for. His leg was covered now...at least what was left of it was covered up. He hadn't tried to walk, though the healer told him he should. Nothing could motivate him to try and use the legs he had left. In the night he would roll and scream in agony as if he were still a pup caught in the trap.
When he awoke the green flash would blind him for the morning and he would spend his time staring out in solitude. Finally hunger would claw at him forcing him to move in search of food. He would drag himself with his front paws back to the den where he was certain to find food, it was an existence, not a life. Who knew how long the young male could continue in this way, something had to snap him out of it...something.

She padded through Agua Azul, her ears flicked back idly and her tail swaying between her legs. She was a teen now, around 6 months old, but she was small and probably wouldn't grow much more. She didn't mind it, however; being small had its advantages as well as its disadvantages.
Lithium paused, raising her neck to smell the air. LSD was near; she could always tell if her only and favorite brother was close. He smelled unique, slightly of dried blood and sadness.
A shine of silver caught her eye and she stiffened, mind spinning. A trap?! Were they being hunted? A whine came from her maw and she sped forwards, ears flat against her skull. It didn't come to mind that the silver shine might be something harmless, a broken trinket a thief had throne out.
Since the accident, she'd spent more and more time keeping her eye out for the brutality of the humans.
"LSD?!"

If there was one thing that could force LSD to wobble onto the three legs left to him, it was his sister. He would do anything for Lithium, and Phrenia, her frantic cry made him lift his head from his front paws and open his eyes.
Weakly he staggered up onto three legs and inhaled deeply "Lithi!" He called out with concern, his voice was stronger, more serious now. As green fluttered around his vision he shook his head, stupid butterfly.

Why was she so bothered by the past?
She heard LSD's voice and rushed forwards, finding him with one barrel over a bush, getting her hind legs tangled in the branches and pulling them free. She hurried over to him and buried her face in his fur, taking a shaky breath in and trying to regather herself.
"I...thought I saw another one of the shiny jaws..." Her voice was sad and her eyes darted around.

LSD nuzzled his sister comfortingly letting himself drop down into a wobbly sit. He nuzzled her ear and gave her cheek a lick "It's okay Lithi, those things won't get you..." Though her words made his heart quicken in fear as well.
He avoided the beach now, even the rocky outcropping where the humans might have lain their traps. Granted now he didn't really go anywhere at all, he just lay there a shell of his former enthusiastic self.
"Come on now...sit with me for a little bit until you calm down..." He didn't like to see her upset.

Lithium watched him ease into a lopsided sit and she took his advice. They wouldn't get her. She would be fine. No. THEY would be fine. Together. She lowered herself into a sitting position, giving her tail a thump on the ground as she licked his muzzle.
"So what have you done today?" She quirked her head to one side, a smile once again lighting up her green eyes.

He looked at his sister a long moment uncertain how to answer her differently, he had done the same thing he did everyday. Everyday it became harder to twist his pathetic existence into something new to tell his sister. Sleeping, eating, and having nightmares could only be embellished into so many activities.
"Well...I had a nice nap...." He murmured softly, nice because he hadn't had his usual nightmare. Though the nap was more like a full eight hour sleep, no food, no activity, it was a miracle the young wolf hadn't wasted away.

Lithium smiled at him, but her heart felt sore. He used to be so full of pep and life and now? Now it took his fraidy cat sister to think something was after her before he stood up! She pushed her muzzle underneath his maw and lifted his big head up.
"You need to move around, silly brother of mine. Let's go on a hunt. A small one...okay?" She looked up at him with pleading eyes.

LSD frowned at his sister and nudged her with a pained expression. "Lithi...you know I don't hunt..." He trembled and lifted himself onto three legs.
"The prey would sooner die laughing at me then under my jaws..." He sighed and plopped back down.

The thought of a rabbit laughing as it lay dead in LSD's jaws sprung to mind and Lithium gave a giggle. She quickly sobered and jumped to her feet, nipping at his stumpy leg.
"C'mon. I don't wanna hunt alone. Besides, you can't just...live like this, brother! Mom's worried. Dad's worried. I think Phren would be worried if she could see what you've become. Please..." she whimpered out.

He growled at her and snapped his teeth near her ear as she nipped his stump, it was a sensitive area for him. Worse she had laughed...she knew that he was as worthless as he feared.
"I live just fine like this...go on..."

She pulled out of the way as his teeth snapped close to her muzzle. Her ears flattened against her head and her tail twitched once, twice. He wasn't worthless... He had to learn that he was a wolf, with or without a leg! There was nothing but his own mind keeping him from enjoying life.
"Listen, LSD. I've watched you limp and mope for TOO LONG!" she barked out, eyes glimmering with emotion. "You are going to help me hunt whether you want to or not! Now stand up and let's GO!" She stamped a foot on the ground to emphasize that she meant 'now'.

"Fine!" He growled and stood shaking himself off and lifting himself onto three legs, he would show her how useless he was, and she would starve when all the food was chased off by his clumsy attempt to walk.
"Waste of time..." He snarled and hobbled weakly onward.

Lithium bounded to his side, falling into step with him, however slow it might be. "Good. Thanks, brother," she murmured softly, feeling rather ashamed at her outburst, even if it had worked to get him off his butt.
"We'll take something small." She was determined to set her brother up for success. "And work up to the bigger stuff."

"Maybe I could step on a fieldmouse....with what legs I have left..." He huffed and flicked his tail out.
"Lithi this is stupid..." He sighed and limped onward his legs wobbly under him from lack of use.
