Kip/Sum

She'd been here before. Frowning a little in confusion, the juvenile glanced around her surroundings, taking in the berries and lush vegetation of the jungle around her. That berry tree there, in particular, looked extremely familiar. She moved forwards towards it, extending her neck cautiously, taking a sniff. Tongue snaked out from her mouth, snatching a berry from the tree and chewing on t thoughtfully.

And suddenly, it all came flooding back to her. With a gasp, Kipepo turned, dark eyes scanning for the path she'd been shown. She soon found it, darting through the bushes and past trees, until she burst out in front of a waterfall. The fireflies weren't here at the moment, due to it being daytime, but she still recognized it. This was the special place - the special place that cheetah boy had shown her. Sumalo? Sum...Sumati! That was it! Smiling to herself, the blue cheetah laid herself down beside the water, purring at the warm sun that filtered through the trees.

Sumati was bored. He didn’t feel like playing with his brothers, but he couldn’t think of anything else to do. He was wandering around aimlessly, his mind wondering over different topics. He didn’t really watch where he was going and soon he was standing on the path that led to the Firefly’s’ spring, as the Achana cubs called it. He stood motionless for several moments and then began slowly walking towards the waterfall. He knew the fireflies wouldn’t be there now, but the place looked just as charming bathed in sunlight.

He thought how he would stretch in a spot of sunlight and nap. Little did he know that there was someone already there. As he came closer, a light blue cheetah came into view. It was a strangely familiar cheetah. “Kipepo?”

"Hmm?" Kipepo spoke sleepily, blinking groggily as she lifted her head, maw stretching open in a wide yawn before snapping shut again. She'd heard her name - where was she again? ...Oh yeah, the firefly-place. But that was in the Achana lands - no-one knew her there. Except...

"Sumati?" she spoke, lifting her head, eyes sparkling. She'd liked his company - he'd been irritating at first, but she'd slowly warmed up to him. He wasn't all as bad as she'd first thought. Jumping to her feet, waggling her butt high in a playful manner, she flashed a grin. "What're you doing here?"

Sumati flashed a toothy grin when her masked eyes met his. So it was her! He thought he’d never see her again. Which made him sad, because she was one of the most unusual creatures he had ever met. He didn’t want to lose her friendship.

“I should be asking you that.” He laughed. “But to answer your question I honestly don’t know. I was just wandering around and ended up here.” He thought it was almost like fate had brought them together again, which in turn made him laugh. “So, how have you been? Anything interesting happen to you?”

Kipepo grinned widely at the old friend, wriggling her hind in the air playfully. She was glad to see him again, that much was clear. She liked having friends - she didn't seem to get many, since she was grumpy. But Sumati was one she quite liked, and seeing him again meant they'd become better friends, right?

It was a stupid question, wasn't it? He lived here, DUH. She shook her head, inwardly scolding herself for the stupidity, but the smile didn't fade from her maw as she suddenly pranced forwards, hoping to pin him down against the ground with a playful growl. "I'm fine! Not much, though, really. My siblings are all super-boring. I like this place - but where're all the fireflies?"

Seeing Kipepo all playful and happy to see him made Sumati all warm and fuzzy inside. Suddenly his fear that their friendship might be lost seemed pretty stupid to him.

He let her push him down and playfully swatted lightly at her. "Things have been pretty normal for me, too. Just playing 'round the jungle and getting into trouble about for things." He smiled to himself, remembering the crazy things he and his friends came up with when they were bored. "They won't come out. Not anytime soon, anyway. It has to get dark first."

Kipepo's grinned stayed exactly where it was, never faltering as she dodged the playful swats, chewing playfully on Sumati's tail instead, rolling over in a way that was fun and playful and...not Kipepo at all. but she didn't care - she liked Sumati. He was a friend, and she wanted to play around him. Not worry about those stupid visions.

"You get into trouble? What for?" she asked through a mouthful of tail, curiousity crossing her bright eyes as she watched Sumati intensely, her grin still apparent through the tail.

Sumati reached and pulled onto Kipepo's ear with his teeth before laying back down again. She was acting somewhat different than the last time he saw her. She must have been having a bad day, he thought. That wasn't so important anyway, she was here now and she was happy and playful.

He played around with her tail as she did with his as he thought what story to tell her. "Well, mostly for sneaking 'round where we shouldn't. And there was that one time where me and a couple of friends took some of the younger cubs to the grasslands on our own. The nannies almost had my head for that idea." He laughed as he remembered the expression on the head nannies' face as she told them how stupid it was to go there without any adults. It was close to the border and all that. "Some of them tend to get bit paranoid. Right now there are so many cubs running around, it's maddening trying to watch them all at the same time. I'm speaking from experience here." It had been his punishment once - he was forced to watch over some of the youngest cubs for a week.

"But we rarely get punished like that. We mostly get scolded and/or grounded for a day. And it's not like we've actually done something really bad."

Kipepo giggled. She never really got into trouble. Her Momma and Papa were pretty cool, letting them wander and play with others. They had to make their own mistakes, and learn the hard way not to do stuff like that again. But she hadn't had any particularly bad experiences yet. Only good ones. Like the fireflies. She'd really liked the fireflies. Looking up she tried to spot some, pouting a little as still none seemed to be around. Why couldn't it be dark already!?

"So? What do they thinks gonna happen? I'm always running around the goeu lands and nothing bad has happened to me!" she giggled, grinning as she lifted her hind into the air, wiggling it playfully. She felt good today. She'd met an old friend. There was no time for being grumpy, or vain. Well...at least not until she felt that familiar pang in her head. The pain suddenly growing worse, Kipepo yelped as she rolled off of Sumati, paws coming to her head as she curled up into a fetal position, whimpering softly. Why now!? Why couldnl't these stupid visions just not happen!

ooc|| Did we ever decide what she was gonna see?

Sumati's mother also didn't mind her cubs wandering off as long as they didn't cross the borders. Which was actually a hard thing to do since they were well guarded. Cubs weren't permitted to go in the rogue lands on their own. But anywhere else was fine. "I guess when it comes to really young cubs everyone gets a little over-protective." Sumati shrugged. "We, the older ones, can wander off but the little ones are supposed to stay with the nannies."

"Well then you must be a very lucky girl then." Sumati chuckled and was just about to swat playfully at her again when she suddenly rolled off him. "Kipepo?" Sumati jumped to his paws and leaned over her. She seemed to be in pain. The cheetah boy paled. "Kipepo, what's going on?" He was scared, he didn't want anything bad to happen to her. Please let it stop, please let it stop soon!

[I don't remember XD I think we talked about her seeing his father or something, who wasn't a very nice guy. Sum's never actually met him since his mother fled before she even knew she was pregnant, but he knows about him.]

She could vaguely hear Sumati talking to her, but she couldn't make out what he was saying. Her head felt like it was going to explode, and she gave a high-pitched scream as strange pictures suddenly flashed across the insides of her eyelids. A big, tall cheetah. He looked a little like Sumati, but not much...he was older. A cheetah girl, that looked like Sumati too. His parents? But...parents were nice to one another. The male was...was hurting the girl. Hitting her. He turned, and raised his paw to Kipepo, and she screamed again as her eyes snapped open, the vision over as she gave a long, low whine, burying her head in her paws and shivering violently.

She just wanted them to stop.

Sumati stood over her, shaking with fear. What was going on, why was she hurting? Did he do something? Sumati gulped. He hoped not, he didn't want Kipepo to be hurting. "Are..are you okay?" He whispered once she quieted down and leaned in to nuzzle her. He felt her shiver and laid down next to her to snuggle in hopes that the warmth of another body would give her some comfort. "It's alright. Everything's going to be okay." He said softly, remembering the way his mother calmed him when he'd had nightmares. He brushed the back of her neck with his muzzle again as he continued to whisper gentle words.

She jumped when she felt something touch her, but soon remembered it was Sumati, whimpering softly as she took her head out from under her paws, snuggling into his shoulder. It was reassuring, having him there beside her. She liked it better when she wasn't by herself, with her visions. Then she got all scared, afraid they were real. But this time...they'd looked like Sumati. The girl, and the boy. She didn't say anything for a while, her shivers slowly subsiding, Kipepo eventually lifting her head a little, eyes wide and shining with fear.

"I...I-I see things, sometimes," she mumbled, turning her gaze away from Sumati, "It...it really hurts, but I see things. Things that happened...a long time ago."

Should she tell him, that she saw his parents?

Sumati looked at her with surprise. He hadn't heard of anything like this before. "You mean like...visions?" He asked thoroughly confused. It was an interesting idea and the cheetah found himself wanting to know more about this...ability? of hers. But as he remembered how painful it was for Kipepo he decided he didn't like it one bit.

Still his curiosity refused to subside. His tail flicked and in the end he asked: "What did you see?" It couldn't have been anything good, he mused, she'd gotten so scared. "If you don't mind me asking that is." He quickly added.

She nodded at his question, feeling her cheeks flush pink. She was so embarrassed! Why did her stupid visions spoil such a nice afternoon with Sumati!? Argh, she hated them! Hated, hated, HATED them! When he asked what she saw, though, she glanced to the ground, using her paw to push a pebble to one side. Should she tell him? ...It had been nasty, though.

"I...I-I t-think it was you're...you're p-p-p-parents," she mumbled quietly, almost hoping he wouldn't hear. "I...Y-You're dad. H-H-He was h...h-hitting you're m-mom."

Sumati felt his blood run cold and he stiffened. "Oh." He looked away, ashamed of his father's actions and ashamed that Kipepo had seen it. He really did hurt her then. Sumati had been right in his assumptions. It surprised him even tough he had suspected for a long time. He had always had a tiny bit of hope that he was wrong.

"I-I've never met him, m-my dad that is." Sumati said quietly, almost choking on the words. "Mom never t-talked about him either. But we knew, my b-brothers and I." His expression was rapidly turning into a snarl, his blood pounding in his ears. "That he'd h-h-hurt her. It wasn't that hard to figure out." He still refused to look at her, afraid that he'd see disgust in her eyes. He was scared that she'd think he might be like his father.

He stiffened, and she whined softly, nuzzling his shoulder to try and cheer him up. She shouldn't have said anything! She was being so stupid! She whined again, clearly not happy that he was upset, pushing her own body closer to his, snuggling up a little. She listened as he talked, shuddering a little. He sounded horrible - she was glad he wasn't still around. Sumati's mother sounded really nice, and no-one deserved treatment like that.

"I'm s-sorry, Sum," she whimpered, nuzzling him again, afraid he hated her for bringing it up, "I shouldn't have said."

He was surprised by her reaction. She was so nice! Sumati felt the warmth return to his body slowly and he looked at Kipepo again, nuzzling her back. "It...It's okay, Kip." He said with a small smile. "Really, it's alright. It's better that you know the truth." Sumati had felt very frustrated when he first found out. Collecting bits and pieces to get the bigger picture was not a fun activity, not when it concerned someone close to him. And it often bred confusion. He wasn't happy that she'd had that vision but some part of him was glad that she had found out without him having to tell her.

"Anyway, let's not think about it, 'kay?" He said after a quiet moment. "He's not going to come here. Ever. It's all in the past, nothing we need to worry about." He smiled at her again, this time a brighter one.
