i was playing around on the build your own les paul on the gibson website, and it got me thinking.

who would you go to, or where would you go to get a custom guitar made for you?
would you make it yourself?
what style would it be, would you have a new design made?
what colour?
what pickups?
have you had designs made?

if you have, lets see 'em.

lets say that you can afford pretty much anything, but remember, its not how much it costs, its what suits you.

added discussion: do you see the point in buying a celebrity sig guitar? for example, would you buy slash's les paul?

i would go with a 'flying v' body in flame top, trans blue. with bare knuckle miricle man in the neck position, and a bare knuckle warpig in the bridge position. i'd have a string thru fixed bridge and nickel hardware. 24 frets, and trapezium inlays

I rather have a custom guitar made to my specs, not someone elses. And no I wouldn't normally buy a signature series guitar, once again, I rather have something of my own specs, but there are some exceptions. (I adore Dave Mustaines ESP V!!!)

i'd build my own
it'd be a strat design
it'd be dark red
it'd have one Jeff Beck Humbuckers screwed directly into the wood of the guitar

I would have a Jackson KV2 style body, EMG 81/EMG 85 Combo, Mother of Pearl Block Inlays, and a black with Gold Pinsripe Paint job. Included with Jenna Jameson! smile

I'd have an SG, black and red, with two EMGs and possibly a third pickup, maybe not. It'd have the normal 21 frets, with rose pearl inlays like the Schecters have. It would have a wammy bar.

Mahogany Body.
Modded classic t style.
Maple neck with rosewood fretboard.
25.5" scale.
modded tele headstock.
Kent Armstrong motherbucker in the bridge, Seymour duncan P90 or Phat cat in neck.
Chrome, mirror (normal or cracked), aluminium cladded, satin black or colour washed if grain it good.

Chrome Hardware with maybe a floyd rose but most likely a tune o matic (depends on finish).

all i need to do is thin the wood for my guitar then it's underway.

I would go to ESP, I like the fact you can do ANYTHING to a guitar there.
But I'm going to stop even thinking about building a custom guitar untill it's truly necessary. Customs are more of an investment than just a guitar.

Once upon a time, somewhere in california, my father built his own custom guitar when he was 18. Then, in about 1993, he died. I have the guitar. It has a look of a Fender Stratocaster, with a Floyd Rose Whammy Bar and P.J. Marx Pickups. There are also tons of other cool stuff inside that I dont know of though. It is Black with a white face thingy (gimme a break, I only got it in July and have been playing guitar in general for that long as well)

I should probably change my ideal custom.
