Maha hurried towards the family den. Man, did she have a story to tell!
The little cub had ran into a rogue lioness barely a few minuets ago. They had talked a little and the rogue was probably long gone by now. But Maha was very excited about sharing her experience and she bounded towards the entrance of the den. She stopped right outside and looked around but didn't spot anyone outside.
"Mom? Dad?" She called as she entered the cave, hoping at least one of them was around. Otherwise she's have to do quite a bit of searching until she found them since she didn't know what they could be doing.
Jethro had left the den with both Kanzi and Kobe, leaving Kamaria to the silence of her own thoughts. With a smile, the tired new mother had laid down in order to get some rest. She appreciated how thoughtful and loving her mate was. Just as she had made herself comfortable and shut her eyes, the sound of an excited young voice echoed throughout the cave. Lazily, Kamaria opened her eyes to peer out towards the den opening. She had mentioned to Jethro how Maha had ran off again, but the male claimed he would have been able to find her!
With a light chuckle, the lioness slowly rised and approached the cub that seemed eager to find her. Maha was certainly her daughter - Kamaria remembered that same enthusiasm for telling a good story. Once she had reached her daughter, Kamaria's entire demeaner seemed to brighten up. Maha resembled both Jethro and Kam so much. She had her father's darker colors and her mother's surplus of intricate spots. Leaning down, the loving mother licked the top of her cub's head. "It sounds to me like you have quite the story to tell!"

"Hi, Mom!" Maha purred and gave her mother a wide smile. Her eyes were sparkling and she was eager to tell. "Yes! Yes! It was really cool, Mom!" She said as she pounced around her mother excitedly. She stopped in front of her and started her story.
"I was playing with some mice, chasing them and stuff. And I was alone 'cause I was looking for my friends but I couldn't find them. And I got really far away without realizing. And this lioness appeared! She was called Waridi, she was really nice." Maha stopped to take a large breath. She was speaking rather quickly, something she did when she was excited. She tried to break that habit, but it wasn't easy. She tried to talk slower when she continued. "And you know what mom? She wasn't from here! She didn't even belong to a pride. I didn't know there were lions that don't have prides!"

Kamaria watched with great enthusiasm as her cub glowed with pride at her new discovery. The mother was no longer the bouncy youth she had been during her own mother's lifetime, but the site of the joy upon her cub's face seemed to rekindle a part of her that had seemed to have been long buried with her past. When Maha prepared to speak, the spotted female took a seat and showed her daughter that she would devote all of her time and attention to her. It was important that each one of her cubs felt important and valued.
As Maha told the story, Kamaria felt her insides flutter about inside her. Wandering away from the pride? Alone? A stranger? The pride encouraged its cubs to learn about the world and find as much out as possible, but certainly there were safer ways to go about it! Kamaria felt a great internal battle between the values she cherished as a cub and the importance of keeping her own cubs safe. She had been without a mother and so was forced to grow up most of her life alone. Her cubs had her so they could be protected! As Maha continued, Kamaria held her breath in worry. She was so glad Maha was safe and back in the pride!
It was only when Maha took a breath that Kamaria realised she hadn't yet released hers. With almost a gasp, the mother forced a grin and let out a light laugh. "I am so glad that you met such a nice lioness, Maha! There are actually quite a few lions who do not belong to prides. They either have not found the right home or have chosen to be without a group. Our pride was founded by a group of us who could not fit into the other prides already formed in the savannah. We bound together for safety and company."

"Ooooh!" Maha nodded with understanding. She tilted her head thoughtfully. "It sure sounded fun, being in a new place every day." She said slowly. "But...also kind of lonely, when you have no where to return to or no one to tell about where you've been and what you've seen. Right, mom?" The little cub looked up at her mother with curious eyes.
The lioness she had met did seem a little lonely. And when she had mentioned her family, she talked as if she hadn't seen them for a long time. Maha couldn't imagine not seeing her parents or her siblings. She wanted to have adventures, but not on her own. The thoughts swirling in her head suddenly made her appreciate her mother's closeness. She snuggled against her with a purr. "I love you, mom." She said quietly.

Once again Kamaria felt an ache in her stomach from worry when her cub spoke about how exciting life sounded as a rogue. She soothed herself with another light laugh. Certainly she was behaving like her mother now! She was once a rogue and although life alone could be dangerous, it was not all bad like many described. There was much adventure to be found traveling the entire savannah and Kamaria would not deny her cubs this curiousity. But there were places and times and Maha was far too young at the moment to leave alone.
Kamaria nodded at Maha's question before adding, "The world is large and there are many exciting places to explore. I remember when your aunt Senatla and I were younger we would go anywhere our feet would take us! We have seen so many different creatures and places. I hope to show you when you're older. I just know that you'll love them all. But what you said is right. Before I met your aunt I traveled alone and it was difficult to hunt and find shelter at times. It's not impossible, but it is not an easy life to live." Some of the more negative aspects of her time alone returned to Kamaria's mind and she furrowed her brows as though re-living them. The gentle snuggle and purr coming from her dark colored cub reminded her that she was safe and loved. Leaning down to return the nuzzle, Kamaria simply took in the scent of Maha and felt the soft vibrations that came as she purred. Speaking lightly, the proud mother replied, "I love you too, my little one". Kamaria had found what she had always been looking for - a family.

Maha looked up at her mother again, deep lavender eyes shining with curiosity. "I can't wait!" She said, suddenly wishing she could grow faster. She wanted to see everything that Kamaria would show her, the sooner the better. Patience was sometimes a bit of an issue for the adventure-thirsty girl. But Kamaria's next words smothered her excitement a little and she nodded in understanding. She didn't want to go anywhere without her family. And she was just a cub, too little to do anything on her own anyway. For now it was enough for her to know that she would get to have her own adventures, she just had to wait.
Maha chuckled as her mother returned her affections and tickled her unintentionally a little. She rolled over on her back and tugged lightly on Kamaria's ear and brushed her nose against her cheek. Then, leaning the back of her head against her mother's chest and tugging her small paws against her own chest she asked: "Does that mean that you and Daddy and Auntie didn't always live here?" She had never really thought about what her parent's life had been before they'd had her and her siblings. But now as the idea popped in her mind she found the subject incredibly curious and entertaining.
