When he’d been given the wonder set of crystals, Cyr had been totally caught off guard. He’d even given them treats as thanks. But then he’d discovered that his most recent commission had gone missing and a short interrogation had revealed the twins thought it useless stuff… and had bartered it away for the crystals they’d wanted to give him.
Exasperated, Cyralthein wasn’t entirely sure what to do. He couldn’t just… refuse their gift now. They had made an effort to obtain them, but they’d also bartered with something that most definitely wasn’t theirs and was most definitely not worthless.
Thus, with a great sigh and two finely dressed young gentlemen standing grumpily by his side, he knocked on the door of Rhiloss’ guardian’s dwelling. It hadn’t been too difficult finding the place – he only had to ask after the boy.
Lucian and Rion, however, were not pleased. As far as they were concerned they felt like they’d done nothing wrong. Okay… well maybe taking without asking was wrong but that didn’t change the fact that they’d done what they did to obtain a thoughtful gift for their caretaker. Now they had to apologize to Rhiloss and they were really sure why. The pair had gotten the other to agree…. And it wasn’t like he’d done anything against his will. It was a deal.
Ka had been sitting in the living room reading a book, that same necklace pooled on a little side table now - where he'd put it when Rhiloss had actually given it to -him- this morning. Ka planned to maybe give it to Far when his husband got home later. The Scent child had told him that he had done some errands for people to raise money to buy the necklace from a pawn shop, so Ka really had no idea what was going on when the knock came at the door. Blinking, he got up and went to open it.
When the door opened, Cyr smiled and gave a sort of small bow as he urged his boys forward, "Hello! Sorry to bother you, but do you have a son by the name of Rhiloss? White hair? My boys here have something to say to him. Don't you?"
It was hard to miss the parental tone about him as he stood there, "My name's Cyralthein. It's come to my attention that our children had an... altercation. Though who won might be up for interpretation."
Lucian and Rion stumbled forward, suddenly awkward and not at all enjoying this. They were too proud to say sorry to someone they didn't know... especially when it wasn't another scent, but an adult. "Y-eah..." They said together, gazes cast down.
Ka blinked. Oh gods. "What's he done now...?" he asked, this obviously being -somewhat- familiar to him. Rhiloss being in some kind of trouble, that is. Though usually the people he was in trouble -with- didn't come knocking at the front door. "Rhiloss!" he called out.
"What!" came the boy's voice.
Ka winced. "Come here a minute please!" he called back. Then Ka turned back to the visitors. "Please, come in, instead of just standing in the door... can I get you anything to drink?" Might as well play host while Rhiloss made his way downstairs.
Cyr laughed and shook his head as he herded his twins in through the door, "It's alright, no drink neccesary..." He would have loved some wine but asking that of a stranger was not exactly polite. "And, don't worry it's not what your boy has done this time around. Rest easy." Apparently this was the norm.... good to know his little hellions weren't the only ones who got themselves in trouble.
"Go ahead, tell him what you did. And be sincere." His tone sharpened a little, becoming more authoritative.
Lucian shook his head, but the arched brow on Cyr's face made him think twice about refraining. They really did love Cyr... were completely loyal but did they reaaally have to do this?
When Lucian hesitate, Rion took the intiative and while he fidgeted as he spoke, he at least admitted to what they'd done, "We gave something to him we shouldn't have. And... we fought. He started it though! Nobody hurts Lucian and gets away with it!" Defensive from the outset, Rion's expression darkened as a frown settled into his features.
Ka frowned, eyeing the twins for a moment. Oh dear. This seemed like it might take a little bit to work out.
Especially when Rhiloss came charging into the room and practically yelled, "I did not start it! They gave me that stinky thing I tried to give you on -purpose- so I would get in trouble! I just wanted them to pay me back." With a huff, he stood at the end of the couch, arms crossed over his chest.
Lucian responded to that immediately, his voice rising to match Rhiloss', "You did! You kicked me! Deliberately! And then said we gave you stinky water when you're the one that took it! You didn't even look when you grabbed!"
"Yeah! And then you agreed to what we asked when we said we would pay you back!" Both the twins glowered at Rhiloss.
Cyr, however, put a hand on each of their shoulders, "Hey. Calm down. Don't yell, got it. You just need to apologize for mislead him, understood. No more fights."
Ka winced at all the yelling and eyed his son and the two twins. "Does it really matter at this point who started it or why?" he asked, tone reasonable. Turning to Rhiloss, he pointed out, "You probably should have made sure whatever they gave you smelled all right before trying to use it to bribe me. But I can't really blame you for the second part of this, I think."
Rhiloss pouted a bit at that, but kept his mouth shut this time around.
"Which is why I brought them over. It was their wrong doing and they should apologize, and ask for the necklace back. That was a commission I was working on - I'm a jeweler. It belongs to someone else." Cyr sighed, shaking his head. Had he been this much trouble as a kid? ... Likely. But that was besides the point.
Rion glared up at Ka, indignant, "Nothing would have happened if Rhiloss had just checked that vial first. It's his fault."
Lucian nodded.
"Hey. I said stop fighting." Cyr poked Rion's shoulder then gestured at Rhiloss, "I said apologize."
".... We're sorry." It was several moments before either spoke and it was short, "Can we have the necklace back?"
"We really thought it was useless, you have so much of that stuff..." Lucian murmured.
"Yes, that's because I work at home. It's all important. We've gone over this Lucian." Cyr pursed his lips and arched a brow.
Ka shook his head slightly at that. "Sounds like your life is about as fun as ours is sometimes... it's a good thing I hadn't already given this to Farlest," he replied - leaning over to pick the necklace up and hold it out toward the twins.
Rhiloss just sat... and then smirked and stuck his tongue out when Ka wasn't looking at him.
Cyr nodded, though he paused, "Farlest...? Far...? So you're who he couldn't stop talking about." The shifter smiled, "Small world. Pleasure to meet you." Another nod in friendly greeting.
Cyr caught that look and eyed Rhiloss, his tone dipping down again, "And if I catch you attacking my boys again, young man, I will ensure that you don't see outside these four walls for weeks. I will not tolerate someone bullying my familiy." Frowning at the scent, he made sure the other understood him before glancing at Ka, "Right? I highly doubt you encourage such behaviour."
The twins stuck their tongues out at Rhiloss then and Cyr rapped them on the head with two fingers, "And you be polite."
"Mnn..." Rion mumbled, reaching out for the necklace, "Thanks."
"Thanks." Lucian replied, though his gaze didn't wander from Rhiloss the entire time.
Rhiloss transferred his gaze to Cyr then, staring at the older man coldly. He didn't care about this guy, or any of them, really. He wasn't at fault here so they could just all leave him alone. "I won't do anything to them if they don't do anything to me," he finally replied.
Ka sighed at that and just chose to let that one go. For now. "Yes..." he replied to Cyr. "Farlest and I are... well, married." He smiled, obviously loving that thought. "If he didnt' mention my name, I'm Ka'hmesh."
"Mn... I know. When I ran into him, we got to discussing our respective husbands." Cyr chuckled, "Quite an enjoyable conversation. Did indeed mention your name, actually."
Lucian and Rion made faces as they sensed where this was going. Cyralthein had a tendency to linger and gossip when the chance presented itself and they really didn't feel like listening to him brag about Arcanos or discuss various other things until night fell. Tugging on his arm, Lucian smiled hopefully at Cyr, "Can we go now?"
"I'm hungry. Can we have a late lunch?" Rion suggested, echoing his brother's hopeful look.
Cyr glanced down then sighed and nodded, "We can. Hmn, we should go to coffee some time, Ka. Maybe all get together one night and have some fun." He smiled as he rose, boys sticking close as if to usher the older man out of the house.
Ka noticed the obvious attempts not to have to stick around by the twins and smiled faintly. "Coffee would be nice... or even dinner," he replied to Cyr with a nod. "I'll see you later, hopefully!"
"Indeed." Cyr replied, waving as he let himself be ushered out the door, "I'll send a letter or somesuch. We'll make an evening of it." And with that, they were gone.
Neither of the twins liked Rhiloss any more now... rather severely disliked him instead. And made quite sure Cyr understood by complaining the whole way home, trying in vain to dissuade their guardian from making any further plans with their enemy's guardian.
