The Ring of Blood is the place to show off and to challenge rank. See, in the 11th Division, the strong overcome the weak; it's Survival of the fittest. So, two shinigami can duel for seat placement if one's feeling bold enough. With Takashi, or whomever is the Captain, and in some cases a Captain of another Division, as judge, the two seat officers fight. The one who wins gets the higher seat placement, and the one who looses gets to lick their wounds on the bottom.

Sayo walked into the area, dragging Kaigen along with her. She was a lot like an avalanch; she really only went forward, and once she started doing something it was fairly difficult to get her to stop until she actually felt she was finished. Hence the bad habit of ignoring people if they protested about anything. Quite calmly, she did not simply let go of his arm, but through Kaigen towards the middle of the area. "Training. Now." she said. Not that she had any idea of how to do it except for just whacking him and seeing if he could figure out how to stop himself from getting mashed in the process...

Kaigen found himself flying through the air for a moment instead of having his feet planted . . . quite unusual for him. He managed to right himself in midair, sliding to a halt a couple meters away from Sayo. "Listen, Sayo-chan, I really think I should get these cuts on my back looked at, and I think i hear m mother calling, so if we could just wait?"

The girl simply drew her sword and pointed it at him. This was how you trained people, right? "You want to be the Captain of 11th Division, and you're turning down a fight just because of a few scrapes!?" she demanded to know. She lunged forward to tackle him, at somewhat less than full force (so difficult!), but more than enough to provoke a response in anyone who loved to fight. As anybody in his position really should have the mindset of.

"It's not what you think," Kaigen replied, drawing Jakenkou. He kept his blade sealed as Sayo lunged forward, but thrust forward, clashing with her armor with the very tip of his blade. He knew from experience that he wouldn't pierce her armor without his full strength, but it would keep her out of striking range. He was six and a half feet tall, and his armspan reflected his gigantic stature. "No fight brings real enjoyment unless both parties are at full capacity. But I guess if I can't ward you with that, force will have to do," he said before surging energy through his arm to push her back more. Since she wasn't using anything resembling full strength, it wasn't hard at all. He pointed his blade downward as he stood at the ready. He set his feet like a fencer, though he held his sword in one hand like a brawler might.

Sayo merely grabbed his weapon as it was close to her and heaved, so that he would either let go of his weapon and have it go flying, or keep hold of it and they'd both go flying. He was only an acting Captain, ultimately only a third seat, looking to use brute force against someone who specialized almost exclusively in that. Not very likely to work, all things considered. "You're really not cut out for this Division, are you?" the girl inquired. It was 11th Division. They were famous for rushing head-first into what looked like a suicidal fight until sheer determination brought them to victory.

Kaigen refused to fly, as he instead reeled his weapon around, using his arm as a fulcrum. Swinging it into a nutral state, he found an opening to reply. "You don't need to be a grunt to succeed in the 11th division, Sayo. An army without competent officers is nothing but a mob. I'll never be as strong physically as you want me to be . . . but what I hold over this division is smarts on the feild."

The girl looked vaguely bored by his statements. "The purpose of this Division is to run head-first straight towards the strongest enemies and kill them. You should know by now that the only thing respected in this Division is strength." she'd kept her grip on his weapon and simply lifted her arm to point it straight into the air. She was easily strong enough to lift both it and the man holding it, and rather satisfied with that fact.

"How convoluted is that bullshit!" Kaigen yelled as he ripped his blade from Sayo's grip with little difficulty, slicing her hand in the process. "The 11th division is the primary army of soul society, not the ******** Kamikaze squad. The captain needs to be more than a brute . . . " he muttered, getting a bit peeved at the same old simple-mindedness the rest of his division happened to share. It was the only reason he was third seed rather than Lieutenant before Sayo showed up, and that was because he couldn't bench press a menos grande. Everyone focused solely on physical strength rather than the characteristic of Strength; exceptional performance in certain areas.

(( You realize the reason she just grabbed your sword is because her gloves are armor too, right? ))
"Actually, it's pretty simple." the girl answered, tilting her head slightly. "You really haven't been in this Division for very long. We're supposed to be the strongest attack squad, the most powerful offense; such power would just be wasted if we went towards the weaker enemies instead and left getting rid of the leaders to the weaker divisions. We're the heavy offense, not the clean-up crew." considering he was technically her immediate junior, she really should have been paying attention to things like when he had joined up. However, Sayo was not known for actually paying attention to a lot of things that others would consider important. She was too busy doing things like bench-pressing a Menos Grande. Maybe this guy wasn't cut out to be leading 11th after all... he seemed to have the wrong idea about the point of having a few thousand battle-loving warriors all in one Division. Sayo was almost an embodiment of the Division itself; they (and she) ran forward and killed stuff. They were the ones who broke the enemy, leaving it to the other Divisions to finish off the survivors and tend the wounded.

((oh, right. Then I suppose I just nicked your armor slightly. .I mean, I AM getting pissed off.))
Kaigen fell silent as he stumbled backwards, holding his head, trying to suppress an enraged growl. "Then I guess we have no choice . . ." he muttered, his voice an amalgamation of two voices. One half was gruff, belligerent, with a hint of cruelty. The other, solemn yet soft. If Kaigen could not make his point, then the prince of cruelty and princess of grim would help him do it. "Ban . . . "

Sayo still didn't look particularly impressed. One thing the third seat would not be able to get around (and that, oddly enough for a girl who paid so little attention to things, she did know) was the fact that he was young. Even if he maanged to unleash Bankai, the fact was that he didn't have so much as half the experience necessary to use it fully and accurately. That could only be acquired with time and experience, not merely throwing power at it to hope it would be enough. She simply held her sword out. At his low level of power, she wouldn't even need her release.

"KAI!!" Kaigen screamed, all three voices that seemed to swap out melding into one sickening tone. Jakenkou grew and twisted, contorting into some sort of bladed scepter, with a long chain running from it's butt. The chain formed around his feet in a large loop before running up to his hand, a gigantic axe materializing at it's other end. The axe looked like it would require the strength of Kenpachi to wield. It's true that Kaigen wouldn't know how to fully use his new ability, but for the most past, it was passive anyways. With a primal scream, he charged forward, swinging his scepter sideways from left to right, his axe waiting behind for something.

Ah, now this was a fight she could enjoy. Poor kid was still lacking in the power department, though. His power level was approximately Lieutenant, but he didn't have ridiculous amounts of raw force. Her power level was more approximately Captain, the position she didn't hold simply because she wouldn't make a good Division leader. She was there to go on the missions and kill stuff, little else. Thus, still quite a difference in power level even with his weapon released. Not to mention speed. Sayo launched herself forward, kicking the scepter aside as she did so; her armor was enough to protect her foot quite well.

As Jakenkou was kicked back the way he came, Kaigen spun around in an instant, swinging his axe in towards just below her shoulder. The thing about Kaigen's speed was that he would lose in a foot race, but his reaction time was unrivaled. In one on one combat, he was like a pillar. You could run around him all you want, but you're not going through him. Knowing his brutish opponent, he followed by thrusting Jakenkou sideways to block any potential counterattack.
