Ok, so I have A LOT to cover here, First off, allow me inform you all on the complicated intricate of my masterpiece outfit. Now this is a work in progress, and I am greatly open to critism, and or suggestions. If fact, I need them! So, here is what I am working on right now. I am to become the great engineer Professor Lovemore,(A role playing character of mine, with LOTS of high(low) tech gizmos!) in order to pull off this great feat, I have been gathering random s**t from everywhere! So, here is the stuff I am working with.
Bag of gears I got from a bike store. Price= Free

Bag of gears from stuff at work (I work in a children's museum doing shows) Price = Free

Spray Paint from home depo Price $7

Googles, tape, and more gears Price= Free

Gear clock from work Price= Free

 As seen here

Old watch I made a pendant out of, Price= $1 At a rug store! F@#$ Yeah!

Sparky ray gun And Old tool belt. Price= Gun $6 Belt $2

Old people graber for robat arm graber contraption coming out of back, straped to the clock, after they have all been painted! I plan on getting 2 more, and I will have two under my arms, and two ovr my arms, with wooden dowls to make them open and close. 3nodding Price= $1 each

Different guns I am working with. I have the other sight opiece drying after I spray painted it.

Moter and pieces from radio shack to make the gears on my stilts (Yes, steam powered stilts! xp ) run. Price= $12 for 2 sets of moters and batterys, $350 stilts. (no I did not buy them for this project.)

I plan on putting wood paneling on the metal parts of the stilts, so they will apear to be made of wood, with gears sticking out. 3nodding I may or may not have a bronze boiler on the sides of them with dry ice, I dont know yet.
BTW, this is me.

So.. Help! what is good, what is bad, what should I wair with all there gadgits?
And, how should I make these googles? What looks the best?

So yea, help!

So I can now currently hate you? Seriously girl, I'm incredibly jealous. You've got enough gears to cobble together a tank with.

ah, fantastic XD You do realize I must out do you now >> But yes, for the outfit I like the 3rd goggle option best (the one with the stack of gears on one side and the single gear on the other) i think you should paint 1 or 2 of the ones in the stack brass to add some flare to it. The wings seem like a little to much if you ask me. They look awesome but they look like they would get in the way and be easy to break and get bent up. They would be good for a comicon or steampunk convention though Stilt things look good, just as long as the gears are attached snugly and they don't hinder performance And I think you may find this video helpful if you need inspiration for the gun. He used the same type of gun you have (or at lest very similar ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbgkSHCHdcw&feature=channel_pagealso the pendant would be good hung from a belt or around your neck on a matching chain. For added coolness you could stick a couple watch hands in there. And if you want to have a back piece still and agree the wings are too much, I advise removing the wings (or making something similar) so your left with the gears. or if your dead set on using the arms make sure they are secure is all. I'd hate to see them ripped off because you hit a door frame. I assume you want them to look something like the Doc's Harness item? Hope I have been helpful. Please tell me what you thought of my advice :3

sweatdrop Firkytoodle me and call me abbess... You sir have a fine assortment of gears indeed my good sir. I cannot wait to start doing some modding of my own...This totally reminds me that the train tracks where I'm moving in soon are absolutely littered with dead bicycles...Gear-work stilts could get pretty dangerous if you do acrobatics in them

Wow :0 ...
I don't even know were to begin so I'll just start with the goggles. It's cool what you plan on doing with the gears. I personally wouldn't put too many gear on them or they'd look cluttered.

Bicycles don't really have gears, they're actually sprockets. Sprockets turn chains or other perforated lines like film or paper; gears turn other gears, and cogs are actually the teeth on the gear (though a cogwheel is the same as a gear). I know that they're all commonly used as synonyms, but this always bugs me. sweatdrop When someone refers to a proper "bicycle gear" they're not referring to the mechanical sprockets, but to the "gear ratio" or the entire "gear train" between the pedals and the driving wheel. So a "16 gear" bike isn't a bike with 16 sprockets, but a bike with 16 primary gear ratio configurations. I'm a bit of a bicycle enthusiast, which now makes me wonder why I haven't endeavored to make a steampunk'd bicycle.....
Anyway, that's all quite amazing. The whole "stilts" thing has me nervous. I'd never trust something of my own construction to hold me up, even if it's just temporarily for show. Well, that's not entirely true... I did have the over-engineered wooden step stool I made in 8th grade woodshop, but that's different and I had blueprints. Also, I think I have those same goggles with the colored lenses! Whatever you're planning to do with those grabber arms, I like it!

Very nice display! I especially love the wings. Normally I'm one of the first to say that just putting gears/sprockets/cogwheels on things does not make them steampunk. But the very inventive and playful way you used them in your creations shows just how wrong I can be!
Lovely, lovely work. You should be proud!

Thank you everyone! But let me first clear some things up, Those are not my wings, I was just showing the picture to show you how I will be doing my arm harness using the same clock. As for the stilts, its not the first time useing them in a costume.
 Me at megacon
What whould be good colors for the actual outfit? I was thinking a vest and tophat, but I know you can come up with something better.

Well, brass for sure! The sepia tones have been done to death. Maybe something very rich, like a deep red. Guess it depends on your skin tone. Do you look better in cool colors or warm colors?

Holy Cog! eek Well... I love those wings, firstly biggrin And I like the second goggles setup, as well as the third. The second could be for 'everyday use' (as you do have two pairs), and the third could be 'maniacal genius tinkerer' or something. Those stilts look awesome! You could cosplay Chell from Portal too. heart biggrin
