OMG!!! My BD actualy chose a good song! Our next concert features Brodway hits, and one of them is The Phantom of the Opera blaugh I have to stop myself from singing as we are playing. Gosh, the whole song makes me giddy even thinking about playing it.
That's one of my favorite things about band, is being this excited about playing a peice of music. Are there any peices that you have played that make you truly happy that you are in band?

We played a medley of Phantom of the Opera songs for our first concert. We sucked, terribly.

I recommended the ALW Phantom band arrangement to my director, he bought it, we tried it. In his (and the band's) opinion, anything that requires a drumset and is concert band written, is going to suck.
Good luck though. biggrin

That's not my school. But I'm so happy to hear about all of these other bands playing this peice. I'm actualy not to fond of the version we recived. neutral There is no organ part. Sadly, no matter how much I cherish this peice, its rather inposible to find a good arrangment for a wind ensamble. It sounds 50X better in orcestra. xp But, my BD is creating an orchestra next year, so I'm gonna convince him to play Phantom. mrgreen

(I go to school with this person who made the Topic) our BD chose a pretty horrible arrangement compared to the ones I've heard.... drumset AND it's written for concert band. Faiiiiil. XP

He THINKS we are creating an Orchestra, and who would want to be in LAKE'S Orchestra???? And 2. There is a Keyboard part. 3. Yes, the actual Orchestrated Phantom of the Opera is the best. Why wouldnt it be?!?! biggrin

Man, I love Phantom of the Opera. We played it for the official opening of our school's new Performing Art's Center my freshman year.
We also got the shrillest girl in our band to do the scream in the middle of the song. We plugged our ears.

We played Selections from Wicked one time. It was amazing. I love Wicked. I enjoy most of our pieces though, unless they're really easy.

My BD bought that after I suggested it to him. But we played it and he immediately banished it to the archives forever. "If a song has a drumset part and it's for concert band, it's going to suck."
...and I agree with him. As much as I love my Phantom of the Opera, the arrangement sucked. xD
Now if it were a Yeston/Kopit arrangement...<3
