Jane had taken up Thali's offer of a visit to Josh's house whether Casia liked it or not. The postal worker had a job to do, which meant that the siren was home alone a lot, and having a place to drop her off for a while sounded good to the guardian.
So thus, under duress, Casia had ended up in front of the biggest, most ornate house she had ever seen, goggling at it incredulously. Josh LIVED in a pad like that? No wonder he seemed princely- it was a castle! Feeling like a regular Gertie Greenbean having to stick up against Wilbur Van Snobbe, the siren worked up her resolve. So Josh lived in a big house. She wouldn't let the Man's tactless displays of corporate wealth get her down. Marching up to the door, she rang the doorbell, according to Jane she was expected there anyway.
As she waited, she looked around at the rest of the world nervously before going into such unfamiliar territory. It was well and good saying she was fine, but Casia felt severely outclassed already.

Joshua was quick to open the door. "Casia!" He said with a smile. "I'm glad you could make it." He led his friend in side. "Mom, Casia's here!" He called. He turned back to the siren. "Would you like some koolaid?" He asked, with a tilt of his head. "Cherry-flavored. Mom and I just made some."
It was always better to have something to drink before singing. As soon as he finished speaking, his mother walked out of the kitchen with a tray--a bowl of popcorn, and two tall glasses of a clear, red liquid. "Have fun, you guys." She said, setting the tray on the coffee table.

Casia startled as the door opened and gave Josh a smile. She was a guest, guests didn't make comments about the Man. "Thanks, man." she said instead, and stepped inside.
The first problem didn't waste any time in besieging her. "'Kool-aid'?" she said slowly. What on earth was that? She bit her lip, but soon Thali came out- popcorn and two glasses of bright red liquid on a tray. Casia assumed this 'kool-aid' was the stuff that was not the popcorn. "Oh, uh..." She didn't really want to eat anything Josh gave her, after all she barely knew him. What if it did something trippy to her? She didn't know what 'kool-aid' was or how it was made, after all.
She shook her head. Those were siren thoughts, again she was overanalyzing things. They had made food, it was rude not to eat it. "Thanks." she repeated, and grabbed a handful of popcorn, the thing that was most familiar to her. She'd chance the 'kool-aid' later, or maybe she could get away with not having to drink it at all. "So what're we gonna sing?" It was why she was there in the first place, so she could avoid the refreshments and focus on that.

Joshua was slightly surprised. "You've never had kool-aid before?" He asked, with a frown. That'd explain why she wasn't eager to try it, anyway. He didn't touch the popcorn, knowing that the salt would give him a scratchy throat when singing. He hated when that happened.
"Um. How about you pick the song?" The boy asked. He knew plenty of songs, but most had some sort of emotion tied to them. He really didn't want anything strange to happen today--he wanted to impress Nataya's friend. But somehow.. he didn't think it would work that way.

Casia blinked. Was she so obvious? Not wanting to admit it, she lied. "O-of course I have!" she said hastily. "I just forgot what it was for a moment."
She grinned. "Groovy!" The only question was which Beatles song would she choose? Thinking carefully about the ones that had two parts, she decided on a fun one. "How about You Know My Name?" she asked. That one was fun and spontaneous, if not very diverse. It was easy to get the lyrics down for someone who didn't know it at least.

"I don't think I've ever heard that one." Joshua said with a slight frown. And he had thought his mother was a Beatles fan. "Do you know the words?" He always felt awkward singing a song he didn't know, but he supposed he could pick up the words easily.
"Can you teach me it?" He asked.

Casia shrugged. "It's not really well known." she explained. "I'll sing through it for you." It was a testament to the siren that she could remember the whole song exactly even though she hadn't heard it a lot. Songs were silver threads in Casia's memory, easier for her to grasp than any visual recollection. Taking a breath, she began to sing for Josh.
"You know my name! Look up the number. You know my name, Look up the number. You, you know, you know my name, You, you know, you know my name.
Good evening and welcome to Slagger's, Featuring Denis O'Bell. Come on Ringo! Let's hear it for Denis!
Good evening, You know my name, Better look up the number. You know my name, (That's right) look up the number. You, you, know you know my name, You, you, know you know my name, You know my name, Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba... Look up my number. You know my name, That's right, look up the number! Oh you know, you know, You know my name. you know, you know you know my name.
Huh huh huh huh! You know my name, Ba ba ba pum! Look up the number. You know my name, Look up the number. You-a, you know, you know my name, Baby, you-a, you know, you know my name. You know my name, you know, you know, you know, my name. Go on Denis, let's hear it for Denis O'Bell! You know my name, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know my name! Prrr, you know my name and the number, You know my name and the number you know you know my name, Look up me number. You know my number three, you know my number two, You know my number three, you know my number four, You know my name, you know me number too, You know my name, you know my number, What's up with you?
You know my name, That's right... Yeah."
She stopped. "Got it?" the siren asked the Nutcracker. "You don't need to remember it all exactly, it's about making stuff up. You know, having fun."

Joshua didn't quite like this song, but he supposed it was alright. Casia had a nice voice, anyway. He nodded at Casia when she finished singing. "You're a really good singer." He complimented. "I think I could sing it now.." He said, sounding doubtful when he said it. It was a long song, and he had never heard it before now. That would be hard on his memory.
"Hey, you thirsty? If you don't like kool-aid, I'm sure mom wouldn't mind making lemonade or something you do like."

Casia nodded. "Thanks." she said a tad smugly. Last time he hadn't admitted it, but who was laughing now? Flashing him a brief smile, she said "It's easy, it'll be cherry."
As for cherry, she glanced at the kool-aid. If it was good enough for Josh it was good enough for her. She'd show him she could drink kool-aid much better than he could even dream. "No, I'll drink it!" she told him quickly. "Later. I want to sing first." She stretched lazily, flapping her wings a bit as she got ready to sing with the Nutcracker boy. "Ready?"

Josh frowned, the lemonade offer had really been a ploy to get away from singing. "Okay, I guess." He paused, and nodded. "You lead. I still don't know the words very well."
"Maybe after we sing, we can play games?" He asked hopefully.

"I guess." Casia relented. It was his house, he could do what he wanted. But first they were going to sing, whether he liked it or not. If she was going to waste her time here she was at least going to get to do a duet. "On three. One, two, three!" The siren began to sing her part.
"You know my name! Look up the number. You know my name, Look up the number. You, you know, you know my name, You, you know, you know my name..."
She didn't wait for Josh, he should be ready and jump in without her having to hold her hand, right?

Joshua started hesitantly. He always felt awkward when singing a song he didn't know. With the promise of playing, he knew he'd have to at least try to get the words right. Good evening and welcome to Slagger's, Featuring Denis O'Bell. Come on Ringo! Let's hear it for Denis!

Casia tried to sing along with him, but it just wasn't working. Both of them were on different melodies and at different parts and it sounded awful. The siren stopped, clearly annoyed that the Nutcracker couldn't keep up. "Hey, hey!" she said, interrupting the music. "What's up?" It was supposed to be spontaneous, but he was supposed to at least try to harmonize with her. "That sounded really grody." It was clearly his fault, and she didn't say it aloud but it was obvious she thought so.

Josh frowned, he knew he wasn't keeping up with Casia. "I'm sorry. I just don't know the song.. and.." He hung his head, looking down at his feet. He felt so bad. He'd ruined the song.
"Want to try again?" He asked. "Or do you want to take a break and play a game first?" He was hopeful, maybe she liked playing pretend too. He hoped so, then they could become better friends.

Casia relented. "It's copacetic." she said reluctantly. Even she felt a little bad for him, but not bad enough to admit it was probably also her fault. if she started admitting her mistakes he might start to think he was better than her with his big house and his kool aid and his functional family.
What she really wanted to do was get back to work on the song again, but it had sounded so bad the first time that the musically oriented siren felt like her ears needed a break. "Sure, that'd be boss." she agreed, and skipped over to grab a swig of kool-aid first. After that popcorn, her throat was getting dry. Gulping it down, she wiped her mouth on her arm and turned to him. "What do you wanna play?"
