It was the night after the new rabbits had come along and Thyme sat at an entrance to the burrows, staring in the direction of the scapes. Ever since Cocklebur was sent down to the scapes with them, Thyme just couldn’t stop worrying about the doe he had met and the kittens that were sent to stay with her. Were they all right? Had something happened to them? Was Cocklebur hurting them?

The wound he received the day before had finally stopped bleeding, and while it was still sore, it had also become rather itchy as it started to heal. Thyme wasn’t thinking about that though, he was completely focused on what he had been planning all day. He knew it was crazy and that it could mean his death, but he just had to know. He was now just waiting on the right moment.

It wasn't long before Mud and Pepper were in the burrow for the night, and Ivy sighed a bit with relief. She was still nervous about every twitch and sound, and her mind raced faster than she ever could on foot.

She thought about Dewberry, and how close to death she looked. That Cocklebur was out there, somewhere. Would it be beyond him to come kill her? Would he think that best for the kittens? She shuddered and nosed closer to the hole.

But she couldn't bring herself to enter just yet. She was torn, not knowing what was best to do. If she slept in the same scrape, would she make them sicker? But what if she slept out here and was picked off by elil?

Deciding that maybe she wasn't tired after all, Ivy hopped around listlessly, nosing greens and chewing a bit here and there as she thought.

Once he was sure the coast was clear, Thyme made a run for it. He headed towards the scapes, following the scent of the doe he had met, mixed with the unfriendly smell of disease and death that seemed to linger in the air.

Thyme honestly couldn’t believe what he was doing, he felt like he was completely exposed and that elil could leap out and kill him at any moment. He did his best to convince himself that he was not afraid, but he could still feel himself shaking even as he ran “You’re going to get yourself killed! What are you thinking?” At every strange sound he heard, Thyme froze and hid behind a rock or in a bush, but for the most part he just kept running.

Once he was close to the scapes he followed his nose until he saw the doe. He breathed a sigh of relief when he saw her, happy to see her alive and relieved he wasn’t alone out here anymore. His happiness was soon interrupted however, once he realised that he wasn’t exactly sure how to go about talking to her. Would she just run away like last time? He hoped she wouldn’t, but he had to approach this delicately.

After a moment or two of thought Thyme approached her cautiously, trying not to startle her, “Erm…hullo there?” he said quietly, hopping closer but still keeping some distance between them, “Are you alright miss?”

((sorry if any of that doesn't make sense lol, my neice and nephew were standing around me talking and it was very difficult to read/think >.>; ))

Her ears shot up as she heard a voice. Standing up on her hinds, she first checked the burrow to make sure no one was trying to enter before scampering towards it, turning around to face whoever it was once she felt within comfortable distance to safety and guarding the kits.

"Who's there?"

She called out, keeping her voice as level as she could. It was that buck again, the one that came down from their warren when Mud ran into her. He was struck by their Owsla, though it was too dark for her to see the wound, she was sure it was there. Hadn't they said his name? Oh, what was it? It wasn't like her to forget, but with everything that had happened today she was a bit scattered.

"I remember you, I'm sorry about earlier, are you hurt badly?"

She didn't really answer his question, still a bit shook up and nervous. What was he doing here after all? Wasn't this forbidden?

Thyme watched her scurry to stand closer to the burrow, obviously protecting the kittens, which he assumed were safely inside. He moved a little closer to her so they could see each other better in the darkness, and couldn’t help but smile as she apologised about the night before, “It’s quite alright, no need for apologies. I mean, at the time I was completely in the dark about everything, so please forgive me if I startled you. I was worried about you…oh, and the kittens too of course”

Thyme shook his head when she mentioned his wound, “I’ll be fine, it seems to be healing alright…it certainly is itchy enough” he didn’t want to mention the fact that he couldn’t see very much from that eye anymore. After all, why worry the pretty doe even more then she was already?

He looked her up and down, she seemed so stressed and Thyme couldn’t help but feel for her, “My name is Thyme, what’s your name?” he moved a little closer to her, suddenly feeling the need to comfort her in any way he could.

A bit nervous as he approached, she shifted listlessly, turning her head to watch him better.

"Mine's Ivy. And do your Owsla treat all rabbits like that?"

She sat on her hinds, lifting a fore paw to indicate the wound on his face. She sniffed the air lightly, just able to scent him, but being too far away to check for infection. She caught herself, realizing she was mothering a grown buck that could take care of his own scratches just fine. She was a little flighty still, travel worn and unable to relax; making her rely more on habit than actually thinking. Taking a deep breath, she calmed herself as much as possible. She already knew he wouldn't harm the little ones, since he'd been there with them; trying to help she could only assume, when Mud had bumped into her.

"It's alright, I'm just glad you didn't get sent to the scrapes as well; it's dangerous. I... Amita... stopped running. One of ours. I... I don't suppose your warren sent you? To check on the kittens? You're the first to come see us."

Oh Amita, she hadn't even grieved for the doe yet. And poor Dewberry! She looked a fright when that horrible captain of Owsla was leading her along to Bramblebur. She shook slightly, feeling overwhelmed.

Thyme licked his paws and ran them down his left ear, “Oh that’s just Cocklebur, the silly old lout!” Thyme couldn’t believe what he was saying, and though this was his honest opinion of the Owsla captain, he dreaded what might happen to him if Cocklebur was listening in, “He treats everyone like dirt, but don’t you worry, I’d never let him hurt you or the kittens. I promise you that”

Thyme’s ears fell back as Ivy explained about Amita, “I’m sorry about your friend, seems this sickness is worse then we feared hmm?” he was still slightly in the dark on the details of the disease, though he felt he knew enough about it to prevent himself from getting sick, well, at least that’s what he hoped.

“I wasn’t sent by anyone, in fact nobody knows I’m down here with you” he sat up and looked around, as if someone might be watching them, “Goodness knows what trouble I’ll be in when I get back, but I just had to see you and make sure you were alright”

Twitching her ears as he spoke, she dropped to all four paws again, a little worried that his shouting would wake the little ones. At least he was sincere, but that didn't stop her from looking at him anxiously. He lowered his volume though, and she soothed her nerves as she listened.

Lowering her head for a moment to regain composure, she didn't want to offend him when he offered his protection from their captain of Owsla, but she feared that if they ever sparred, his eye would be the least of his worries. Especially after seeing poor Dewberry, Ivy had a better idea of what this Cocklebur really didn't mind doing. Telling Thyme any of this wouldn't help the situation, and at least he was trying to be kind.

"Thank you... I hope it doesn't come down to that."

Her eyes stayed focused on her front paws as he mentioned Amita. The sickness, it had taken just about everything from her. She for one couldn't really imagine how much worse it could get. Unless it spread throughout this warren somehow, which would be a rather bad zorn indeed.

"I... I suppose so. She made it so far. I wonder how her brother is taking it."

She thought of Shire and her heart went out to him. If only she could see her comrades again; it had only been a few hours, but she already felt so isolated and alone. She didn't have time to grieve further; however, as her visitor admitted to sneaking over here without permission. Head snapping up and her ears flicking forward to focus on him. This could spell disaster for the lot of them.

"Yes, I'm alright. For now at least, as well as the kittens; but who knows what will happen if you get caught. You should hurry back before someone catches you. What if Cocklebur were to find you?"

Shuddering nervously, her eyes were a little wide as she looked to the dark buck. Punishment might not just fall on him after all. She'd already caused two of their number to be turned out, if there were any others they might see her as a threat. They could chase her out, or even kill her.

Thyme could see even in the darkness that Ivy was getting more worked up about him being down there without permission, “Please don’t be worried” he said softly, dropping to all fours again to try and calm her, “I promise you, Cocklebur may be captain of the Owsla but he does not frighten me” he hated lying to her like that, but he couldn’t very well say he was scared and make Ivy even more concerned, “I’d sooner let that brute tear off both my ears then let him lay a paw on you”

His nose twitched as he tried to ignore the strange and unfriendly smell that still lingered in the air, and while he hated to admit it, it probably would be best if he left soon, rather then get caught and make things even worse for Ivy, “I wish I could stay down here with you and keep you all safe. Disease threat or not you shouldn’t be left to look after the kittens on your own, it’s simply not fair” he hesitated slightly, before shifting a little closer to her so he could see her face clearer, “I really should be getting back now, I don’t want to make matters worse for you” he gazed into her eyes for a moment, trying to memorise everything about her, “Stay safe Ivy, we will meet again I’m sure of it” he smiled at her thoughtfully, before taking off back towards the warren, hoping that no one had seen him leave in the first place, and praying that Frith would keep a watchful eye on Ivy and the kittens until he could see her again.

Those were big words coming from a buck that had earned himself a raking over the face from Cocklebur just earlier that day. But in his defense she couldn't remember him crying out, and he had come to see her only hours after the fact; not showing any fear for the large buck that had wounded him. Still, it was no secret that she was rather terrified in her current predicament. Cut off from the remaining rabbits of her old warren, nervously taking care of two kittens without actually touching them, all while diseased and in the shadow of a warren that didn't know what to do with her. Still, she was alive and here, wasn't she? Things would work out alright, it was just gloomy right now. She shook her head and cleaned her whiskers, running both paws over her muzzle a few times. She really didn't know how to respond to his vow. She felt as though she were being ungrateful by not thanking him profusely at whatever protection he could offer, but honestly Ivy was rather nervous and completely unsure of herself; let alone putting trust in anyone else.

She stopped cleaning her whiskers and stood still as he spoke again, turning her head to the side as he came closer; concerned at his approach.

"It might not be fair, but none of this has been. Especially for poor Mud and Pepper; I pray Frith at least lets them make it out alright."

She shifted a little, unsure why he was staring and not sure what to do about it. She could have sighed with relief when he announced his departure though. Every moment longer was just begging for trouble.

"I will do my best, I assure you. And take care of yourself as well; look after that wound and make sure you clean it throughly."

There she went sounding mothering again. But should couldn't help worrying, and hopefully it wouldn't get infected; otherwise he could lose his sight. She watched him go, and felt a pang of guilt. She had been rather cruel to him, out of fear surely, but still that had been poor behavior on her part. He had only meant her well, and at least she knew she had at least one ally among this new warren.

"Thank you, by the way. I'll see you again when this is all over, Thyme."

She whispered, not quite sure he heard. Staying out for just a moment longer, ears perked as she scoped for any dangers, she looked in his direction once more for a long moment, and then hopped into the mouth of the burrow.
