LOL this takes place before the merge. So technically it takes place in the Safi lands, I'm just a jerk and didn't ask fel until after I placed it here ;D ah well. Chanda yawned as she moved back toward her den, tail flicking. Her eyes were half shut, a relaxed atmosphere was settled around her. Though she was still seen as a raging b***h being back home had done a bit for her personality. After the first few nights of fighting with Aibisho she'd actually managed to go a few without arguing with him. Of course those nights had proven to be almost silent, as she still couldn't figure out how to hold a 'natural' conversation with him.
Her fur was matted with sweat and it seemed she'd either been hunting or working out, though if she had been off hunting it seemed as though she'd caught nothing. Of course, being in the mood that she was it was safe to assume that wasn't the case.
As she reached the den she slowed and sniffed, eyes suddenly squinting. She gave a deep sigh of relief, realizing Aib was not back yet. She settled herself right on her side in the front, beginning to groom her paws with a soft and rare purr rumbling from her throat.

Aibisho had seen a turning point in their little awkward relationship, and it all centered around the night that he had gone off foolishly to find another den and then decided he would much prefer to sleep out in the cold. She had been right of course, and he had to swallow the bitter pill of a bruised ego. With that, he had also had a few days of being mildly sick. His bones had hurt and he had been sneezy and coughing. It was only just going away now, but his head still felt clouded and heavy.
He was trying to go out and get fresh air, but he didn't see how anyone got over these kinds of things in the middle of hot, sandy desert. He'd gone on a short walk while Chanda was gone doing whatever it was she felt like doing but he found it more or less dissatisfying. He was on his way back when he saw her in the distance, returning to their den (which she still referred to as her own, but might as well have belonged to the both of them at this point).
"Ugh," he grunted as he flopped down near her - not quite in her personal space though. They found warmth in one another at night, but he still didn't push his boundaries, no matter how confused he was beginning to get over certain details. "I still feel like complete trash."

She had stopped grooming mid lick when she caught the flicker of red in her vision and then he came fully into view, flopping down near her. She could feel that now familiar little pulse of her heart, it always seemed to grow faster when she was around, which she stubbornly refused to believe it was because of anything besides the fact that he pissed the hell out of her. Him just living pissed her off. Still, he'd been sick for the past few days and in the back of her mind she felt a little guilty. She wasn't about to admit it was her fault for getting him angry enough to leave her den in the first place, but she had become aware enough that his sickness was a direct result of her own actions. She began to lick at her paws again, seeming to ignore the male.
After a moment she sat up and snorted, shifting and twisting to continue her bath of sorts. She was tempted to just stalk into the den, so he wouldn't try speaking with her, so she wouldn't have to feel so damn awkward or think of something to say that wouldn't result in an arguement. Still, whatever it was made her stay firmly where she was.
"Well serves you right. You've learned a lesson." She muttered, then paused in her grooming again, sighing softly to herself. See? She just couldn't do it, she had to try and stir the coals of his anger. "Er... but. It's good you're doing better. You seem better. Not... that I care.." She fumbled awkwardly on with her words, dipping in and out of being a b***h and trying to be concerned. She huffed and twisted to face him again, deciding she better change the topic, and fast.
"You've heard about the merge yet?" She did not watch him for too long though, much too afraid he'd look up and see that she was watching him, and after a moment her gaze floated away and to the sand dunes in the distance.

He felt his fur rising a bit as she began to pick her fight, though he himself knew that he probably didn't have the energy to snap back at her if she really wanted to get into it right now. Thankfully, she backed down for whatever reason, and he didn't have to waste his energy on another useless little fight. "Yeah, I guess by tomorrow or the day after it won't be that bad. Not that you really wanna know." He added the last bit just like she'd added her bit about not caring - last second and almost thoughtlessly. He didn't jumble over his words though. He knew something was changing, but he was about to act like a stupid idiot about it.
"Uuhh, yeah, actually," he said with a nod, turning to look at her even as he shifted to lay down. He was so tired, and for no reason at all. He wouldn't be so stupid again, that was for sure. "Not that it really matters too much to me, I guess, I didn't grow up here." He shrugged a bit, despite the fact that his muscles were still a little sore. "What do you think though?"

Well then he could stop hanging around her den so often if he was better... go do something productive with her life. And then she could hang around the den more, enjoy her free time without her heart beating a mile a minute.
Of course it didn't matter to him, he didn't really understand the beliefs of the firekin, not to the full extent. Of course, Chanda had only gotten a taste of how a firekin was 'supposed' to be before she'd been spirited away from the lands. She frowned slightly and also shrugged. "I am not sure." She seemed to be careful of not speaking her thoughts on the matter out loud, but it wasn't exactly because of Aibisho himself. Her gaze left him and shifted around the sands for a moment. "After being gone from these lands for so long... I am not going to leave even if I have to adjust to living in a pride with beliefs that aren't... quite the same as to what I'm used to." She shrugged again, not sure if she was really making any sense.
"It will drive many out, but I guess it won't matter. I don't know many members on a well enough level to miss them or anything." As if she'd admit to missing others if they left anyways- or maybe that sort of behavior only applied to him. "I hear my father is with the Simo. Maybe I will run into him..." She looked confused for a moment, unsure how she should feel about the matter.

"That makes sense," he said with a slow nod, taking a deep breath as he lay his head down upon his paws. "It'll be nice to be back in your original lands again, anyway, right? The Simo drove the Safi out of the place that you used to live, didn't they?" A great yawn cracked his jaws as he let his eyes droop slightly. He could be almost nice, it seemed, and conversational, when he was tired beyond reason. He even managed to ignore the moody undertones in her voice.
"Maybe it won't be so bad when some of them leave, I bet it'll just be the old stuffy ones," he said with a tired chuckle, thinking about all the Firekin that gave him odd looks here and there. He was actually looking forward to this merge because, to him, that meant he would fit in more. They accepted rogues in this new land, and despite his lie claiming to be of the blood, he really wasn't. His lie wouldn't make him stick out so terribly there.

She shut her eyes after a moment, finally letting herself fully relax as she listened to his deep, pleasant voice. Had they ever spoken like this? It had only been a few exchanges back and forth, but it was the first time it hadn't exculated into an arguement after the first minute or so. Maybe he was just too tired, that was also why she thought she couldn't muster up her usual heaping of bitchiness. She was also tired, and horribly confused.
Her eyes slid open just a fraction as she watched him and she smirked. "Hmph, even those old stuffy ones can be quite a burden to bare." She stated, as if she knew all about having burdens rather than being a burden. Though you lost a lot of your strength when you grew old, and as a threat to others well... you weren't really one, she still thought the older members of the pride- on either side, were very formidable in their own ways. If they did not have a sharp mind or pocess some sort of usefulness to the pride then they wouldn't still be alive, would they?
Which only meant she'd probably die fairly young, as she had recently realized just how less her mind was than that of others. She frowned, still watching Aib but she was zoned out. Really, when it came down to it, she wasn't very useful, was she? Her tail flicked as she thought it over, trying to decide about herself. If she took in the greater picture she could see she was not exactly a great fighter, perhaps a bit above average but she lacked experience. Her hunting skills were well enough, but it wasn't as if she was some magnificent... She groaned and rolled to her side.
She needed to stop thinking this way, she hated when her mind fell to these ill thoughts. She liked feeling comfortable about herself, confident. "Aibisho... would you say I was useless?" She asked outloud, unable to stop herself. She didn't dare look over his way, but she listened intently. This was the first time she'd actually used his name, and she was actually quite surprised she wanted him to consider her question seriously, and answer her honestly.

"I suppose," he muttered, in reply to her comment about the old ones. He couldn't voice his opinion about why he thought they should just up and split away from the pride, to be quite honest. He would have to admit that he had lied about being Firekin blood, so he just nodded at her words and let it pass, his eyes drooping shut as he thought maybe she would let the conversation die here with his reluctance to keep speaking.
Still, even with his tired form and mind, he didn't miss the sounds that were coming from her side of the cave. The groaning, the shifting of her figure. One eyes popped open, the tangerine iris rolling until it settled onto her. She looked distraught over something, and despite his need to sleep, he was just about to ask her what it was when she popped out with such a ridiculous question.
"What?" it was hard to contain the slight note of humor to his voice, though it was shielded behind his heavy slur of sleepiness. "I suppose that's all a matter of what you're refering to. There are probably some things you aren't very good at, but then, you're very good at making me miserable when you feel like it, aren't you?" He smirked and shut his eye again. "You'd probably make a decent guard, the way you're always being so confrontational."

she could tell he wanted to sleep, or rather... he seemed very tired and he was sick. She was also tired, but she knew sleep wouldn't come for a long time when night finally fell. Eventually she'd end up on the other side of the cave, next to him. Pressed up against him. she shook the thoughts away, a chill running down her spine. No, tonight she doubted he would gain her warmth. Her mind felt too stuffy, and she wasn't really one to think too often. She liked doing, but ever since getting to the firekin lands she felt her mind becoming filled more often with troubling and confusing thoughts.
She waited for his answer almost tenstly, her body still and her breathing light. She just barely missed the hint of humor in his voice, for a moment feeling like something was off in his answer, and then just brushing it away and coutning it as being paranoid. As he answered she could feel herself getting frustrated though, selfishly thinking he wasn't taking her question seriously. Of course there was s**t she was bad at, though she'd only recently been able to admit that to herself, what she wanted to know was if she was useless. Did the pride really need her? Did anyone?
She frowned deeply and rolled to her other side, her back now facing him as she muttered something under her breath. She may have been the best at making him miserable, as he so kindly pointed out, but it wasn't like she was trying to. Well, in the beginning yes. But now they way she acted usually reflected upon how naive she was in the matters of heart, how quickly confused she grew and her only way out of feeling awkward was by pissing the guy off. Could he really blame her? Well yes, and he was. And it was just getting her pissed. He was so stupid, he didn't get anything. Not that she really knew about what she wanted him to get.
"Hm." She made a noise to at least let him know she had been listening, but she didn't really trust herself to speak out. She knew that would just turn into a fight, paws down. She was slowly learning how to keep her mouth shut, how to keep the company between the two... less hostile, if not pleasant. "Well, at least I'm not useless then. Good. Goodnight then." She shoved the words out of her mouth, her voice a little stiff and she couldn't fully hide the anger. What answer had she been ******** expecting, then?
Still, at least she wasn't bitching about why he should shut up and she shouldn't have bothered asking him, right?

He didn't have the sense of mind at the moment to try and speak to her in a way that would keep her ego from getting bruised. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he could sense her figurative hackles rising, he could just see the way she was seething even if she had her back turned to him now. The fact of the matterw as that he was just too damn tired to care right now, although he might be kicking himself when he finally woke up. At least, as far as he was concerned, the conversation had remained mildly civil.
"Course you're not useless," he muttered sleepily, his words beginning to take on that tone that suggested he might be more asleep than he was awake. His words were slurred, bleeding one into the other. He smirked, even in his nearly asleep state-of-mind. Then with another yawn cracking his jaws, he burrowed his face down against the comfort of his paws and let his mind fade away.

His last words just seemed to be the cherry on the cake, Chanda's mind instantly jumping to the assumption he was poking fun of her, and had been the entire time. She was stupid not to have jumped down his throat when she'd had the chance. And now she could hear his breath, it had become very rhythmicto her. He was asleep then, or just about.
She thought of heading over their and smacking him in the head real good... but she knew she should let him sleep. He was sick, after all. She growled and thumped her paw against the floor of her den, wishing she could just make sense of everything. Couldn't things just click into place? "Whatever." She muttered very softly, as to not wake the b*****d.
For a long time she lay awake, staring at the wall of her den, trying to make herself feel better. But just when she was about to grasp what she was searching for, that confidence she blindly had for her foolish self, her thoughts would sink back into being negative. Her eyes were beginning to feel like sand, she was very tired. And cold, she still hadn't moved from her spot.
She sighed and slowly pulled herself to her feet, groaning slightly and stretching out her sore limbs. She watched Aib for a minute, an ugly frown still plastured on her features. "Should drag you outside and let you catch your damn death." She breathed out, wondering why she was feeling like she wanted him to be impressed with her, or think that she was amazing or... anything really, besides his usual answer of making fun of her. She didn't often help him take a detour from that sort of action, since she was the b***h of the pair...
"Enough!" She hissed out, trying to quiet her damn mind. She winced and watched him for a minute, but luckily she hadn't woken him. She dragged her paws almost reluctantly toward him and dropped down to her stomach, rolling to her side so her back was pressed up against him. She shut her eyes in almost a difiant manner, as if she was defying her very thoughts and was trying to sleep to spite them.
