Kiriwar had taken to his alcove for a while, getting a candlemark worth of a nap during the hot time of the day. When the heat seemed to ebb, he opened his eyes again and lolled around in bed for a few more moments, watching the candle burn down a bit longer and shoving a hand through his now-fuzzy hair. A wide yawn nearly cracked his jaw joints, drawing a grumble from him as he rubbed at his cheeks – a shave would soon be in order, he noted. But that would have to be another time or later that day… Something about this warmth made him so lazy sometimes, even though he had grown up in a somewhat warm climate back home. But this volcano was far different from his home Hold, and he was still adjusting. Naps were a necessity, with the heat and the food making him pleasantly sleepy – usually around the same time of the day each day.

Finally, the tall Vintner pushed himself to his feet, rolling out of bed and shaking himself off a little, trying to recover his awareness from his nap. And it was still so warm… He sighed unhappily and immediately pulled his shirt off, handing it up on a peg, before shuffling out of his alcove. The curtain flopped back into place after he stepped into the main corridor. He stretched his arms over his head, groaning softly as he stretched, forgetting to check and see if there was anyone else in the hallway. He was half-naked, sweaty, and this was the sort of situation that he sort of avoided – baring his flesh openly was a new concept.

The day, for Anont, had been spent in chores; he'd been rotated into kitchen duty, and fortunately, it had taken up a good chunk of his day. Working, he knew, was the best thing for a troubled mind- and keeping busy in the kitchen had certainly kept him from thinking! When he'd finally finished the last bit of cleaning and been dismissed, the warm afternoon was beginning to cool. It was still warm, mind you, but certainly not as much as earlier. To Anont, at least, it was pleasant- and definitely a nice change of pace from the crowded kitchens!

Breathing a sigh of relief when he stepped into the hallways, Anont realized he really had thrown himself into his work- he was genuinely tired, muscles slightly sore, but greatly contented by it. Yes, it was one of those peaceful days where he'd be getting a great night's sleep afterward. Bed sounded wonderful around this time, actually.

Heading down the hallways towards his bed, he vaguely wondered when the last time he'd worked such a good days was. As a vintner's apprentice, he'd certainly had his fair share of working days- between hauling barrels, crushing grapes, and other miscellaneous tasks, he often found himself thoroughly exhausted, passing out the second he was home. But lately he'd been well awake and aware after his duties, providing far too much time to think.

Fortunately, tonight wasn't set to work that way.

Yawning as he walked the long stretches of halls, Anont rounded the corner to head to his room- only to suddenly be face-to-face with another candidate. Blinking blearily, as if to make sure the other was really there, Anont gave him a once-over, rather shocked by his state of undress. Unable to keep from smiling a bit, Anont folded his arms.

"Kiriwar, isn't it?"

Ah, exactly what Kiriwar had been hoping to avoid -- running into someone else. He had no way to drag a shirt on or anything, as he had them all in the alcove still, and it would be ridiculous to run from the other now. Especially since it seemed they knew each other, he realized when he was called by name. He blinked once, looked the other over, then smiled crookedly, just hoping he had the name with the right face in his mind. He had been so caught up in life at the Weyr that it was hard to remember those he knew before coming here sometimes. "That's me, and forgive me if I'm wrong, but... Anont, correct?"

He crossed his arms awkwardly over his chest, grimacing the slightest bit. "Forgive me for, ah..." he lifted a hand to wave vaguely at himself, before returning to being tucked securely against him, "You know. I'm still not entirely used to the heat that comes along with living here, and wanted to get out a little. I didn't expect anyone else to be about. But, ah... How have you been? It's been some time."

It wasn't as if Anont was particularly offended by Kiriwar's state of undress- he himself had taken to sunning at the lake quite frequently, and had faced several other candidates shirtless. No, it was just the sudden sight of it that had caught him off guard. Besides, it was as the other had said- the weyr was quite hot, and it'd taken him time to adjust, as well. Those had certainly been interesting days. Fortunately, he'd adapted quickly; his former apprenticeship had kept him sweating with hard work, so ease that gave the same effect was certainly a nice change of pace. Apparently, not everyone was adjusting quite the same.

"Doing well." He admitted, figuring that was a decent enough answer to cover his condition. Had he known Kiriwar better, he might've asked for some advice from the other- a friendly word on his worries of Impression, and Erisi. But no, as they weren't that close, he kept silent on his fears. Maybe some later day, if they got to know each other better. Dropping his hands back to his sides, he cocked his head to the right slightly.

"And you?"

Kiriwar shifted a little, feeling awkward himself, not used to being so undressed in front of others. He smiled warmly, though, nodding once, when his inquiry was answered, finding the situation to be just a touch awkward, the two of them getting a slight feel for each other now, after only previously seen each other's faces and heard one another's names. Now, perhaps, they had a chance of eventually becoming friends, now that they were both at the Weyr.

"I'm doing rather well. Adjusting to a new way of life," he said with a soft laugh, waving one hand a little to indicate the Weyr. "It's all quite exciting. Very new. Are you excited about the Hatching upcoming?" He sure was -- excited and nervous, but he kept the conversation light and simple for now, leaving deeper discussion for a potential later date.

Had Anont been aware of the other's discomfort, he would've politely excused himself, not wanting to trouble Kiriwar any further. But, then again, he'd never really been the social sort, and as such, missed any hintings of discomfort from the other. They'd never really had a chance to talk before now, anyway; now that he had it, he certainly wasn't going to pass it up. He might not be one to seek conversations out, but he wasn’t going to just up and leave when he was in one.

“I can see that; I had a bit of trouble getting used to the idea my friends were gone,” he amended to Kiriwar’s comments on Weyr-life. That was what had taken him the longest to adjust to, he supposed; waking up without his parents in his life and his friends gone had made the first day as a Candidate tough. But there were plenty of perks to Ista that had gotten him by- all the other Candidates, and how friendly they were, for instance.

“Oh, definitely!” Anont replied, enthusiasm bursting out in his tone. Excitement, however, was an understatement- he couldn’t even put a word to the way he was feeling now. Grinning, now, he gestured slightly to Kiriwar.

“You are as well, I assume?”
