Dust Essence/InfluencesSkulls The skull is a bony structure in the head of many animals that supports the structures of the face and forms a cavity for the brain. The skull is composed of two parts: the cranium and the mandible. A skull without a mandible is only a cranium. Animals that have skulls are called craniates. The skull is a part of the skeleton. Functions of the skull include protection of the brain, fixing the distance between the eyes to allow stereoscopic vision, and fixing the position of the ears to help the brain use auditory cues to judge direction and distance of sounds. In some animals, the skull also has a defensive function (e.g. horned ungulates); the frontal bone is where horns are mounted. The English word "Skull" is derived from Old Norse "skulle" meaning head, while the word cranium has for origin the Greek root κρανίον (kranion). (source: wikipedia)
~ The Skull and Cross Bones is an image used on a Pirate flag called the Jolly Roger ~ It is also known as 'Pirate of death' to pirates ~ It consists of two human bones crossed behind a human skull (refer to the picture above) ~ The image is also seen in a ships log next to the names of those departed ~ The image has not always been associated with pirates but has evolved to be the most commonly used symbol and one that we often relate pirates to (source: lucy learns)
Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de los Muertos) is a holiday celebrated by many in Mexico and by some Mexican Americans living in the United States and Canada. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. The celebration occurs on November 2 in connection with the Catholic holidays of All Saints' Day (November 1) and All Souls' Day (November 2). Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed and visiting graves with these as gifts. The Day of the Dead is a time of celebration when eating and partying are common. Due to occurring shortly after Halloween, the Day of the Dead is sometimes thought to be a similar holiday, although the two are celebrated differently. (source: wikipedia)

Dust Child name Ciaran meaning of name Irish and Gaelish in origin; means 'black' dust Black Skull gender Male
hair black/monochromatic; short eyes narrowed, golden skin pale build lanky, gangly?
wardrobe toss up between casual with dark colors with numerous clothes with skull motifs or actual pirate-esque clothing, or a mix accessories optional markings optional (but stitch markings/skull teeth-like markings over his mouth would be so cool, derp)
likes strength, medicine, ocean, exploring, tranquility, friendship, family dislikes boredom, restriction, betrayal, illness, weakness, narrowed point of views hobbies exploring, medicine, looting, hiding, celebrating, digging possible powers n/a
personality When formally meeting Ciaran for the first time, he appears to be a quiet child. If someone attempts to create conversation with him, the dust will either speak in few words or babble on about medicine or geology—a topic that few people are interested in. However, once they turn away people eventually realize that Ciaran is staring at them, curiously following their movements. He has a rather inquisitive mind and likes to investigate and learn about things. To his guardian’s delight, he likes to observe as much as he can, although admittedly he’s not as good at spotting things as Arietta.
Ciaran doesn’t hesitate to get down and dirty, especially when it comes to investigating or getting what he wants. When it comes to morals, his isn’t quite there. He won’t hesitate to walk straight into a museum and pick up an antique vase so he can examine it further. If he wants hands-on experience on classifying skeletons, he has no qualms about waltzing over to a cemetery and digging some up—regardless of the many lectures he’ll receive later on. If he wants something, he’ll do it even if he has to the break the rules (just no breaking his friends plz kthxbai).
His investigations lead to him a lot of different places around town and outside of town, which leads to a lot of adventuring. Not that Ciaran particularly minds, he loves exploring the land and new places. If he could have an exciting adventure everyday he would be content for the rest of his life (alas, that does not always happen!). This also results in him being away from home a lot and doing things on his own, but he doesn’t mind either. In fact, he loves the freedom! It’s nice to be able to make his own decisions, although sometimes they’re not always the best. His lack of rules-following can often get him into trouble, though he insists it adds some spice to life.
When he isn’t busy burying his head in some book or poking his nose into things he shouldn’t, Ciaran is out having the time of his life and celebrating. He acts far from a wild animal, but he loves attending parties and festivals. Cake. Shopping. Costumes. Everything about celebrating appeals to him.
Despite his free personality, Ciaran still holds loyalty and family close to him. There are only a select few he considers to be his comrades, but whoever they are he is completely loyal to and protective of. If they ask for his help he will come running wherever he is. If they are in trouble Ciaran won’t hesitate to bust them out or share their pain. If he ever finds out that someone he loves is getting hurt in any way, be prepared for a rather ticked off Ciaran. quirks ☠ neutral face is pout-like (wtf idk orz) ☠ always tilts head when confused or curious ☠ has a habit of climbing things ☠ likes to carry around a shovel to dig things

Dust Guardian
name Arietta De Luca gender Female age 29 occupation Doctor
hair dark blue; straight and thick, ends a bit past her shoulders eyes golden yellow; narrow and almond-shaped, wears thin, square glasses height ~5'6" weight ~126 lbs skin creamy peach build athletic, runner's build
wardrobe semi-formal, usually a black shirt, matching slacks, and a doctor's coat likes science, logic, numbers, medicine, green apples, white, silence, common sense dislikes stress, loud noise, red, stupidity, stubborn persistence, denial hobbies observing, medicine, gardening, reading
personality While the townspeople may riot and panic during a fire Arietta manages to stay calm. Even in a dangerous situation she will not show her fear and instead remain cool enough to figure out the outline of a plan. Although her heart may beat fast and she may worry, she is able to force down her stress so that she may remain logical.
Arietta is often seen with a calm smile and an analytical gaze. Whatever she sees, she looks at thoroughly and intently. She does not like to have details easily pass by her, so her gaze is always casually moving and observing. As a child she was curious, which still holds true now that she has grown into an adult. Whenever Arietta hears something interesting she will definitely stay and eagerly listen. She can commonly be seen with a book in her hand, whether it is from the library, one of her own, or a notebook where she can jot down her observations in. Arietta had always been a woman of science and logic with a keen eye that soaks up details. Simple lies and explanations do not pass by her so easily, but simple honesty also leaves her wary and uneasy. She is not easily trusting of others and is always looking to poke holes in whatever other people say.
It’s rare to see her act anything but formal and polite. Her arms are usually at her side or crossed, careful not to casually hug or touch others. Even when Arietta is with people she considers her close friends she does not get completely casual, though her posture relaxes and her gestures become more affectionate and less cold and distant. background For most of her childhood, Arietta was born and raised in Faleen, Land of Knowledge. Her parents were notable scholars—her mother was a historian, while her father was a mathematician. It was unsurprising that they sent their only child to a top-notch school in the city. Given the insatiable curiosity of her parents, Arietta thrived in the learning environment that Faleen provided her. She joyfully went to class, eagerly studying and discovering the wonders of the world and life. In her spare time she would visit the large libraries reading books on a variety of topics or visiting her parents in the research facilities. She eagerly learned and memorized, living her complacent life until she turned eighteen.
Arietta was in a restaurant, busily scribbling in her notebook when an elderly woman decided to take a seat next to her. “You seem to have an interest in plants. That’s nice. Do you plan to be a herbologist?” the woman asked in an easygoing voice. The two began a conversation that eventually took up the whole day. Although they parted ways once night came, Arietta was fortunate to meet up with her again. The woman’s name was Sophia and the two quickly became close friends. It turned out that Sophia was once a doctor that hailed from Aimes, but decided to retire due to old age and managed to travel her way into Faleen.
After meeting Sophia, Arietta was determined to become a doctor. She remained in Faleen for another four years, studying medicine and herbs before she finally decided to leave Faleen for the place that Sophia had come from—Aimes. She traveled from country to country before arriving near Whi Forest. Upon discovering the numerous herbs that grew within the forest, Arietta decided to build a small house not far from it.
It’s been a year or so since then. She often travels around the villages and towns, offering her medical assistance wherever needed.

*purrs* I like them both. I only have two suggestions/critiques:
The first being that you should probably ask the staff directly whether or not something such as a "Sweet Lullaby" can be used as a Dust. So far most of the items in which the children have sprouted from have been mostly tangible. The only one I can think of to back your case for a Lullaby dust is Hymn, as his dust is Siren's Voice.
I think it best to double-check directly with the staff, so that way you don't find yourself in a pickle if a Concept Contest happens to sprout up or anything of the sort <3.
The second you don't really have to acknowledge, it's just me being a butt... Since there's no Italy in the LD world, how can there be an Italian ethnicity XD?
; 3; I'll stop being a butt now. ilu Syu.

I've asked BP. She says it's probably okay, but is going to double check with the others. :>
Yes, that was a goof on my part. xD Her name is Italian so I was like "She's Italian!" but in this world, there isn't an Italy.
Thanks Shou. <3

I really like the Sweet Lullaby concept. I think the dust's personality is perfect for the essence. I like that she's always laid back and is not easily hyped up, it's so fitting for the lullaby XD I see that she's motherly and gentle too. Though how do you think she's react when she sees a demon? 8D /curious
Even though I think the personality is good.. I think you could add more traits to her? Morse surprising and not obvious characteristics, just to make her more interesting. It's up to you if you want to do this.
I especially like the possible powers, the one where she can put people to sleep and then possibly make them have nightmares. c: Her likes and dislikes intrigue me too. She dislikes a whooole lot of things XD Crunchy food? LOL.
I like the guardian *u* The guardian's personality seems more dynamic than the dust though, but I do understand that the dust can be developed as she is rp-ed : Db
