- Facts About the Altamira Oriole - The Altamira Oriole, Icterus gularis, is a New World oriole. This group of birds belong to the Icteridae family. They are not related to the Old World orioles which are in the family Oriolidae, but are superficially strikingly similar in size, diet, behaviour and their yellow-and-black plumage, a good example of convergent evolution, and almost inevitably took the same vernacular name.
The name "oriole" was first recorded (in the Latin form oriolus) by Albertus Magnus in about 1250, and was stated by him to be onomatopoeic, from the song of the European Golden Oriole. The genus name Icterus is from the Greek word for yellow and is also associated with jaundice.
The Altamira Oriole is widespread in subtropical lowlands of the Mexican Gulf Coast and northern Central America. It also can be found in the extreme south of Texas. It nests in open woodlands. The nest is a very long woven pouch, attached to the end of a horizontal tree branch, sometimes to telephone wires.
This bird forages high in trees, sometimes in the undergrowth. They mainly eat insects and berries. They also enjoy fruit and nectar from flowers and feeders and are particularly fond of fresh oranges and grape and apple jelly. They are permanent residents, and unlike the migratory orioles that breed in the US, the species is "sexually monomorphic" -- both the males and the females have elaborate coloration and patterning.

- Facts About Electricution - An electric shock may occur upon contact with electricity. It can be lethal, but the level of voltage is not a direct guide to lethality despite the popularity of such a measure.
Despite being a preventable event, electrocution continues to rank as the fourth highest cause of industrial fatalities (behind traffic, violence/homicide and construction incidents). It is estimated that more than 30,000 non-fatal electrical shock accidents occur each year. The National Safety Council estimates that between 600 and 1,000 people die each year from electrocution.
Most personnel are aware that there is a danger of electrical shock, even electrocution. It’s the one electrical hazard around which most electrical safety standards have been built. However, few people really understand just how little current is required to cause injury, even death.

Background:
Appearance: Standing at 5' 4" and weighing 145 lbs, Aura possesses green eyes and shoulder-length layered golden hair framing her heart-shaped face. She is usually dressed simply in a pair of faded navy blue jeans as well as a peach coloured tanktop and a pair of comfy sneakers. Around her neck, she wears a golden heart-shaped locket given to her as a birthday present when she was 4. It carries a photograph of herself and her parents taken on the very same occasion as well.
Personality: Aura is a generally good-natured person, herself preferring to resolve most issues peacefully without resorting to unnecessary violence. She is a little shy and reserved on first impression which makes it hard for her to approach people initially, but will open her heart to most if given time. She is however a head-strong and independent girl who is very passionate about the things/people she values in life. Although she is usually cool-headed, calm and resourceful, she can be pretty rash whenever something/someone were to threaten the things she holds dear to her heart and will then stop at nothing in order to eradicate the threat.
