This happens roughly simultaneous to the outside RP.

Though Setsushi may have tried to make the yard and tables outside as presentable as possible, it seems he hasn't had the time to do the same to the interior. The kitchen looks almost like a disaster area, every single pan and grill spent preparing food for all the guests. The one table still inside is also cluttered with mixing bowls, dirty cutting boards, and not-yet-ready serving bowls on trays. And even more than the exterior, the house smells of fish -- and smoke, which one might swear she can even see floating up near the ceiling.

The chef currently bends over one of the serving platters, attempting to arrange little green garnishings over the grilled snapper. He is impeded in this endeavor, however, by his hands, which tremble and twitch in a reflection of the anxiety tumbling around his mind -- At this rate, he won't have everything ready by the time people begin to arrive.

Kouyo hovers around near Setsushi, wondering if he needs any more help with last-minute things? He seems anxious as well, though the High Priest is mostly worried about the sheer number of people who will be visiting at once. Knowing some of them already reassures him somewhat, but....

Is there anything he can move or take outside? Fingers knit together as he fidgets, Kouyo inches closer to the Knight to peer around him at the dish he is working on. Any help at all? Or else he can go measure the house again or something. When is everyone supposed to come?

Setsushi glances over at Kouyo, then takes a deep breath and reins in his disorganized anxieties.

... In a calm tone, he asks if maybe Kouyo can move the rice off the heat, gesturing with his head towards the large pot on the stove. It's heavy, but if Kouyo is careful, he should be able to do it. Since the guests are due to arrive at any moment, they need to make sure the rice has had enough time to stand.

Setsushi gazes over the vast array of dishes still not ready to take outside, but holds down his worries. ... Everything will probably be all right, he tells Kouyo. At the very least, the vegetables are already done, so if someone starving arrives she'll be able to start right away--

... ... ... What about drinks!? Setsushi abandons the fish to go rifling through his cabinet of tea. Something delicious and refined, but weak enough for evening consumption...

The High Priest glances at the large pot, a momentary uncertainty coming from him before he pushes up his sleeves and tests the handles to see how hot they are. Finding them at least cool enough to hold for a few moments, he grasps them both and lifts the pot of rice; it is heavy, but not quite as heavy as he was worried it would be.

He sets it down over on the counter and is about to turn off the burner that had been keeping the rice warm, but then opts to leave it on for a few moments while he hunts down the kettle. Kouyo gently teases the Knight by pointing out when he locates it that Setsushi really had been doing a lot of cooking today, as the tea kettle had been forgotten behind three other pots on the table. Then he fills it with water from the tap and sets it on the stove to boil.

... How many people are coming, again?

Finally choosing, instead of a fancy tea, a roasted rice tea that will perhaps mingle well with the simple flavors of his home cooking, Setsushi straightens, peering at the ceiling and unfolding his fingers as he tries to recall. ... Chourou, Unsou, Tenkyuu, Yaruka, Tenryuu, Reiga, Tsubei, Ryoua, at least; Chourou's two daughters may also come, and there is another boy who lives with Yaruka. Perhaps eleven then, or more, or less -- eleven without counting Setsushi, Kouyo, and Xiao Huo.

Setsushi has laid out twelve places so far, but he has more bowls and plates if more people arrive. And there should be more than enough food -- Setsushi plans to live on the leftovers for a few days.

In any case, eleven is not so many people, Setsushi tells Kouyo, his tone gentle and encouraging. And though the table will be crowded, there is still room to stand in the yard, and Kouyo can always come rest inside if he feels overwhelmed.

Now Setsushi better finish the presentation of those fish.

Kouyo nods, edging closer to Setsushi once the tea kettle is on the stove, and reaching out to touch his arm lightly. They are all friends of Setsushi's, though, yes? So the High Priest will do his best to get to know all of them better, he supposes. Or at least say hello.

... Then he backs off a little and softly apologizes for clinging. Is there anything else he can do inside for Setsushi, or should Kouyo go outside now and just give the Knight his space?

Setsushi assures Kouyo there is no reason to apologize. Setsushi is sorry he decided this so quickly, without giving his friend much time to plan. sweatdrop

... He looks over the bowls, and tells Kouyo that even though they're behind schedule, Setsushi thinks it is best if he handles the rest himself, since a number of dishes still need finishing touches, and a lot of the serving bowls are heavy and clumsy... But Kouyo can either go out or stay inside; Setsushi doesn't mind his presence.

... ... ... Where's Xiao Huo, anyway?

Ahhh, Kouyo told him to stay very close to the house when he went outside, and he seemed very interested in examining the place settings the last time the priest checked on him.... Kouyo shuffles to glance out the open door, looking for the child.

After disappearing just outside the doorway for a few moments, the priest returns to report that he is still outside, and apparently plotting something or another with Dame Tenkyuu sweatdrop So perhaps he will wait outside to be sure neither the food nor any arriving guests fall victim to whatever plans they may devise? ... Though this little Kouyo is not fully sure if he could stand alone against both his clever aunt and the energetic little child.

Setsushi is sure Tenkyuu won't attempt any scheme that will result in permanent damage... But even so, Kouyo understands that there is no shame in calling for reinforcements every one in a while, correct?

Giving the younger man a quick military salute, Setsushi finishes arranging the garnishings on the first plate of snapper... and moves to the second.

Kouyo laughs softly and returns Setsushi's salute, and heads for the door out. If he needs help, the door is open, so the Knight should be able to hear his screams sweatdrop

Though it appears there are already some other potential allies outside...?

"Worry is the first cause of mistakes," Came a familiar, gentle voice from the doorway. Yaruka smiled to the two men and bowed to them both.

"Everything looks great so far, Setsushi. You needn't worry too much. Is there anything that I can do to help? Maybe take some of the finished dishes out to the tables so you have room to work?"

She looked up at the smoke and held up her hand, her lips moving subtlely as she whispered words of what might seem like a musical language. The smoke slowly started pulling into her palm, gathering in a darkening ball.

Setsushi projects greeting mixed with embarrassment to Yaruka -- he can't help but feel a bit ashamed with his house all laid out in disarray for Madame to see. gonk

"I am all right," he tells her; he can handle the remainder of the work. If Madame truly insists on lending assistance, then he can allow her to take the first dish of snapper out -- the rest are unfinished, heavy, or hot, and so Setsushi will tend to them on his own.

He blinks at her magic, but only once, and sends her a feeling of warm gratitude. It is a great help.

Yaruka gathered all of the smoke above her palm and opened a small nearby window, allowing it freedom into the air so it no longer polluted the house. She looked to Setsushi with a gentle smile, wishing he didn't feel so ashamed....but he was the flighty kind.

"I can handle hot things," She said with a chuckle of amusement, "I'm a creature of the flame, after all, but I'll help in any way I can. Unsou will be along in a few moments. She wanted to meditate a bit before she attended, so we came ahead."

She moved over to the plate of snapper that was completed and picked it up easily, admiring the aroma of it.

Setsushi is glad Dame Unsou decided to attend. ... Or at least, that is what he projects, though there is something about the way he does it that suggests there are other feelings hiding behind a wall...

Thanking her again as she takes the snapper, he looks once again over the remaining food. ... There is also a stew of shellfish, but the pot is so large that Setsushi is not sure he should even attempt to take it outside. Perhaps instead the soup bowls can be brought inside...?

... Setsushi really doesn't know what he's doing without a regiment of servants behind him, does he...

Shaking off his discouragement privately, he finishes off the second plate of snapper and moves on to sorting more garnished vegetables into bowls.

Yaruka looked up at Setsushi curiously, sensing something a little off about projection that tells her a thing or two. She looks over at the large pot and chuckles.

"That's nothing. I handle pots that big of noodles all the time," She said as she headed to the door to carry out the snapper to the tables, "I have a big family, after all. I think between the two of us, we can manage it out there. I shan't be too long."

She smiled to him in a somewhat strange way before she ducked outside to set up the snapper properly.
