- You don't have enough mods. There aren't even 100 on at any given time, and yet there are at least 30,000 users on at any given time. Those numbers just don't add up!

- This has always been the case, but you have some very rude and corrupt mods that act only in their own favor. There are some average users that are nearly untouchable because it's well known that they have friends that are moderators. Too many moderators play favorites and act on personal vendetta. I've personally experienced this far too many times.

- It would be a good idea for you to browse the forums, watch people and see if they'd make a good moderator. We know you already do this, or at least, used to, years ago, but there are a lot of us that want to be mods, and would be good at it. And they're all too willing. An example of a good moderator would be a patient person that will actually respond to PMs. Someone that can judge fairly and is always willing to help. Someone that doesn't take their stress out on others. Someone that won't lord their power of the other users or use their power to gain an army of loyal suck-ups, or use their power to get free stuff. And yes, a lot of mods definitely do the aforementioned.

- You should always watch your moderators somehow to make sure they know what they're doing, what with the disgusting amount of site wide bannings as of late. We are tired of being afraid to do anything on the chance that we'll get banned for something we're not aware that we did wrong. Not everyone cheats, hacks, and exploits glitches. Some people don't even know what hacks or glitches are. You should also watch and make sure your moderators aren't corrupt. I'm not saying that any are, but it's a good thing to be watchful of.

- The moderators aren't on the same page. At all. Some of them will say ______ is okay, others will say it's not. It's hard to know exactly what is and is not allowed when the lines are so blurred. And you know it's bad when even the mods don't know.

What's really sad is the state of Gaia as it is is actually a little discouraging for recruiting more mods. Honest people who are sick of all the spam, who would be responsible, active mods are overwhelmed by just how far Gaia has slipped. I myself had thought of filling out the mod application but the thought of spending every minute of my free time trying to keep just one forum relatively moderated is a daunting and tiring one. Why would someone who has a full time job and school to attend to choose to spend a good deal of free time doing something so stressful?

That leaves only people who either have a great deal of free time or want to become mods for selfish reasons to apply to become mods. It then becomes a downward spiral of people who would make good mods looking at more and more work that may or may not include cleaning up after corrupt mods and deciding the reward of helping a community they're loving less and less is not enough to compensate for all the rubbish a mod would have to deal with.

I've considered applying for moderator, too, but, with a full-time job, I don't know that I'd have the time they'd expect to devote to it (granted, I'm typing this at said job, but I really shouldn't be doing that... wink ). Plus, I don't think I could kiss up to Gaia enough to make them consider me, so... yeah, I'm probably not gonna bother.

(Too bad they don't have a "moderator of moderators" position (like an Internal Affairs department), but that would probably require Gaia to admit that their mods might do things wrong...)

Mm, from what I've heard, it's a very demanding job. D:

That's what Dri used to be, to a point. She kept all of the mods organized and planned everything out. But now that she's been let go, I don't have any idea what they're doing.

NK, in case you're interested, it looks like SF has updated its rules as of April 8, and they do now include the "NK Rule" (no "catch-all" threads). They do, apparently, still allow "long-term" threads, but with caveats. (All of which is basically going to amount to "if we don't like what you're saying, we'll Chatterbox you, neener-neener-neener!", I'm sure.)

Anyhoo, if you (or anyone else) cares, here's the post.

That was my thought too when I saw that new rule.
Hey NK, now you've got a rule made just because of your thread! It's obvious that higher ups have read and still read it.

Geez...

I feel special and incredibly unwelcome at the same time. Thanks, Gaia!

I'm sad to find out it's finally happened.
I really hoped [ .NK. ] could start up another thread, but that hope has been smashed to bits. :[

*stares* are you serious? Most of what I say that is against what "isn't acceptable" I get flamed for. When I was in the original thread that NK was in, I was flamed along with everyone else who agreed with NK. But no mod really stopped it. Yet they moved the thread to Chatterbox....*shakes head* that's what doesn't make sense.

And, so long as we're not planning to over through any governments, I don't think they can really erm, be overbearing in that...

And I really want to be a mod but I'm just not old enough yet. Wasn't there a time when it was 16 and up though to be a mod/helper?

Actually, mods do have jurisdiction in guilds. They usually don't bother unless someone reports the guild for some reason. But I have gotten a warning for something that I posted in a guild before and I wasn't even the guild captain.

But apparently calling out a mod in a guild full of mods is considered harassment even though that specific mod has me on ignore and isn't part of that guild. |D

As for the guild itself, it can be deactivated if the mods feel that the guild is breaking the TOS in some form. Usually, this doesn't happen unless the guild is reported though.

@Meromictic: How the HELL are mods able to do their jobs if they're able to put people on their ignore lists.

I think Gaia staff doesn't want to see so many complaints in one place 'cause they think it makes them look even worse than what they already look like. ninja Who woulda thought that they would actually be willing to "ban" a form of organization? I mean, it's not like staff members OR mods are actually paying attention to the more important things users have to say. So why the need to to spread all those details out more?
