Two sevendays and already his curiousity had gotten the best of teenager; with his chores done for the moment he had swiped a basket of bread, meatrolls and some water from the kitchens before making way to what seemed to be the most sacred spot in the entire Weyr.

Hidden in the small hole that the candidates used to spy on the Queen and her eggs, Govind sat and watched the glimmering dragon with one half of a meatroll sticking out of his motub and the other grasped in his hand. No one was kidding when they said that the Queen was a natural beauty; even the simplest movement from moving her head to preening was filled with grace.

Swallowing the lump of food, he looked away to grab his water and take a swig before it back into the basket. Occasionally, he would shift to ease the heat coming up through his thick breeches and boots. Only unfortunate thing about this place...yet, being raised to work underground where it can get pretty cold, it didn't really bother him all that much. Pushing a few stray bangs out of his eyes, Govind returned his gaze to the grounds with his attention focused on the few eggs hardening on the sands.

Kiriwar could not deny that he wanted to go to the place near the Hatching grounds… He was not sure where he had heard of it or who had told him, but he knew there was a place to peek and have that chance to see what everyone in the Weyr desired. So the Vintner wound his way carefully through the tunnels, pausing to get himself a few pieces of fruit to juggle and eat as he made his way down to the Hatching Grounds. It was pleasantly easy to make his way through the tunnels – he was quick to learn his way around places, memorizing landmarks and signs to tell him he was going in the proper direction.

What the tall man was not expecting was to find someone sitting there already, watching avidly. He paused, chewing slowly on a bite of fruit as he considered what he should do now. He did not want to bother someone, particularly, and force them to leave or force them to sit with him so they could both watch – that was potentially personal-space-invading and few people went well along with that. But the Vintner was not sure what else he could do with himself right now… He had planned his day around having the free time for this. So he carefully and lightly stepped forward, reaching out to put a hand gently on the other boy’s shoulder, smiling down at him. “Mind if I join you?” he asked, voice rolling sweetly and gently. He did not sit down yet, giving the other a chance to turn him away.

"Hm?" At the touch and the voice that followed, Govind glanced up to find another close to his age. A candidate? ....it was fairly possible and Govind was sure that it was mostly the candidates themselves that knew about this spot.

Of course, what did he know? He only came here after hearing the others whisper about it in the barracks, drawn to it like a Weyrling dragon to it's first cut of food. With a chuckle at the thought, Govind motioned for the other to take a seat.

"You may if you'd like. After all, this isn't my plot of land." He grinned and pointed at the golden dragon. "It's hers at the moment...but i'm a bit fearful to go over there and ask permission to sit."

Kiriwar immediately took a seat beside the other, folding up his long legs to his chest and biting thoughtfully into a piece of fruit as he watched the Golden with her clutch for a moment, listening to the other Candidate speak. "I know the feeling... I can hardly wait for a chance to stand on the Sands, if I get it."

He flashed a smile at the other boy, before shifting to offer a hand for him to shake. "I'm Kiriwar, by the way. Born into the Vintner craft, and now here as a Candidate."

"I agree one hundred percent." Govind smiled and shook the offered hand before pulling away. "I heard from some of the older Candidates that no two Hatchings are the same, that something always interesting happens." He nibbled on the edge of a bread loaf in thought before introducing himself to the other Candidate.

"I'm Govind, Born in Crom Hold into the Mining Craft." He chuckled. "Also a candidate."

Kiriwar scooted a little to peer into the hatching grounds, sighing softly -- wistfully. "Truly? I wonder how it will go this time. I can't wait to see how excited those who Impress are," he said, glancing over at Govind for a moment and smiling.

"A pleasure to meet you. What are you hoping to Impress? I mean, is there a particular color?" he asked, then, smiling softly.

Govind grinned and pulled his knees against his chest, shifting a bit as his thin breeches couldn't keep the heat from the stone and sands from burning him. And, frankly, he wasn't use to the heat yet...after living in Crom Hold and working down in the mines where it's cold almost every Turn.

"I wonder too..." He shrugged a little at the thought. "Well, best to take it as it comes. The Hatching is still a ways away and I don't want to loose sleep due to excitement so soon." He grinned again, the smile cutting away the "no-care" attitude of his previous statement; he then perked up at the question....Dragon color? "Personally, I would prefer a color below that of a Bronze. I....don't do too well with positions of authority or high-ranking...but any color would make me happy."

"What about you, Kiriwar? Is there a particular color you would like to Impress?"

Kiriwar perked up, watching the other curiously and blinking. A Bronze would never suit him either... He smiled when the question was turned on him, leaning against the wall and sighing. "Any. But, truly... I would love a Brown. I find them to be gorgeous, and pleasantly powerful..."

He shook himself off at that, laughing quietly -- he did his best to keep his voice low, not wanting to bother the Queen. "But that's all just hope. I'd really be happy with any. I can still hardly believe that I'm possibly going to Impress in the first place."

"A Brown....hm, I heard one child called them "The Middlemen of Pern" just yesterday in the kitchens." The teenager smiled and laided his head on his knees while watching the gold dragon through the wall. "They are amazing creatures, balanced with nearly every single one of the fighting traits a dragon needs..."

Govind sighed and grabbed the water flask at his feet, opening it and taking a swig before re-closing and offering it to his new comapnion. "But all dragons have their own amazing quirks and traits, making them all equal in the eyes of a Candidate, no?" A chuckle and a headshake at the happy statement that came out of Kiriwar's mouth. "Same here....I'm honored but....I still think if this was the right choice or not, even with my father's push...ah well, what can I do now? I'm stuck here for six more turns." Govind smiled and straightened up. "Might as well make the most of it."

Kiriwar nodded, liking the way that sounded, a smile curling on his lips. "I like that... It suits them rather well," he murmured, watching the dragon as well and looking over the eggs.

He looked up in surprise when the water flash was offered to him, before smiling and accepting it, taking a quick swig and finding it to be a wonderful relief from the heat. "Thank you," he murmured, offering it back to Govind. "It's amazing to realize we're here... I'm here for six more turns as well, m'only nineteen... But I'm sure we can make it good." He gently nudged a shoulder against Govind. "What would you have done, if you hadn't been searched? Would you have stayed with mining?"
