Aeolus grunted softly, flicking his long mane. Weather was light and feathery, and he wondered how long it would last. Seasons passed by so quickly but the years seemed to trudge. How long has it been? He had either lost count or had lost interest. Aeolus, finished scanning the vast empty territory, began to trot on through the soft green grass. Though he's been a loner his whole life, or at least aimed for the sort, at times like these he wouldn't mind starting a herd or settling down. Surely he'd be mocked for even thinking such a thing, him of all stallions, but he knew it would never happen and continued to be a free thinker.

Walking across the flat dry rocks protruding from a thin shallow stream he was curious of how far he traveled, and how far he'd have to go to get back. He had busied himself with counting the trees that he has passed to arrive here., which were few since they were quite dispersed, and decided after passing a few more he'd rest before turning back. Once he reached a large oak tree he took shelter under the shade of its leaves. It reminded him much of the one back home. The old one that rested at the top of a cliff which loomed over a long beach and his small teepee home. Living by the shore was peaceful; he wasn't sure if he'd ever grow tired of it. Yawning he rested his head against the tree, as if pretending to listen to its heartbeat. His ears were pricked with caution but at the same relaxed. It was like a paradise wherever he went as long as he got away from everyone.

Upon hearing a chirp he lifted up his head to peer above him. A little red bird had took refuge on a thin branch. It looked back down at him with its beady black eyes, and tilted its head to the side curiously. Aeolus would have smiled, but instead shifted away so he wasn't under the tiny creature. Knowing his luck instead of being welcomed with a cheerful little song he'd actually be secreted on in turn. I have a feeling that today will be a bad day...

Time had passed out of meaning for the kalona skinwalker since the fateful night his life began, already a scarred, fully grown stallion. Megapi did not remember being a colt. He did not remember a family, if he ever had one. For all he knew, he was born that night, the grinning twolegger with the skin watching him. The kalona paused to dig his horns against a rock, scraping them back and forth to sharpen them. He grinned, wolf's teeth glimmering against his black pelt. He enjoyed this life; if he had ever lived with a herd, he could not remember--anything, really, but--he could not conceive of a time enjoying life more.

Ironic. I hate life. It is full of hypocrisies and unnecessary false dichotomies. Megapi shrugged and continued his way, pausing in his random wandering every so often to scent the air. He had not seen any horses for the past several days. Had not tasted flesh or blood. While it might be possible to eat grass...I will not be reduced to eating mere...vegetation, he told himself. He would starve before he stooped to eating anything green and sweet. Unless it came curling and pouring from the slashed belly of another horse.

Suddenly, he was rewarded with the smell of a stallion not too far off. Megapi smiled to himself and turned into a wolf. This will be fun... he thought happily. He could hardly wait for his next meal. He gave his fur a quick lick and trotted in the direction of the horse.

White eyes squinted as they tried to make out what a certain creature was from a far off yet short distance. It appeared to be a black Halloween-like fox. Upon further inspection he saw that its orange eyes glowed quite fierce and brightly. Well, this was it; that black cat of bad luck. Aeolus got up, not trusting anything enough to be lying down when around it. He wasn't quite sure if he should leave, or stand his ground, but he just knew it couldn't be some familiar. No- life was not kind enough to let it be some familiar.

He didn't take his eyes off them, and they were too close to let his paranoia let him turn his back on them. So he stayed where he was, ready for whatever the little thing wanted. He slightly kneaded his hooves into the ground below him, giving it a cold hard stare as it drew closer. Was he just being too paranoid? It really could just be a lost familiar.. He mentally sighed and shook his head. Either way he had to drive it away, its "company" was not wanted.

It had finally come lose enough for Aeolus to identify its own scent. He was right; it carried the stale scent of past blood. He took a step back, knowing full well that he had every right to be worried now. For once he wished Cas was there, to back him up or at least so he didn't have to look stupid alone when running away. He didn't want Astraea here though- she was too innocent and pure for a beast, and he wouldn't be able to bare see his little sister injured. Other than that... Aeolus really actually wouldn't mind some others around him for once.

Megapi trotted over to the stallion, noting with glee his nervousness. Someday I'll find easy prey who doesn't fear me and walks right into my jaws. But hey, fear can be as tasty as blood. It's just not as nourishing. He noted the way the horse observed him suspiciously and sat down on the ground, eyes on the horse. In this shape, it was easier to be crushed, easier to be killed. He needed to be careful, and he needed not to be slain by his meal. That would simply be embarrassing.

How is it that the dogs do it...? he asked himself. Oh yes...like this. The skinwalker adopted an innocent, wide-eyed, vapid look, tilting his head to one side as if in curiosity, and panted, his tail thumping against the ground. It might not work. He might try to run away, or take it as a suspicious sign, but hey, it was worth a try. If he tried to crush him, he could just resume his natural form and go for the throat. Either way, Megapi was not ready to let this meal go away. He was too hungry.

Take the bait, take the bait, just a poor, lost, mute familiar... he thought.

Aeolus observed him as he played innocent. It didn't work though, and he didn't trust him all the more. It was the final sign, and his assumption had to be correct. Aeolus snorted, "I'm no fool, it was easy to recognize you for what you are from behavior. If you were really a fox, or dog, you probably wouldn't have come over here so calmly." He took a step back, "you probably would take much joy in a chase too, wouldn't you?"

Aeolus was a little worried about their real form. They were crushable now, but how big were they really? His eyes shone with hostility, and he took a few more steps back, trying not to let his guard down. What would they do? Keep up the act and try to make him feel like an idiot? Transform and attack?

As Aeolus continued to try and maximize the distance between them he wondered what their real form was like. He had never actually encountered a real one, but had learned plenty enough stories about skinwalkers.

Megapi sighed and stood up, shaking himself out. It never failed. The tastiest morsels had the most brains. Oh well. A meal was all the more satisfying if one had to work for it. "All right, fine," he sighed. "I admit it. I'm not some poor, lost familiar." He took a few steps closer, ready to dodge his blows if he were to attack. The stallion could be dangerous while he was a wolf.

Megapi shook himself out and transformed into his stallion self. He spread his wings out and advanced menacingly on his prey. "And yes, I love chases. Not as good as traps, but chases are fun. I'm a wolf and a horse. We both like running. But I am a predator, whatever form I take. A carnivore." The kalona smiled, his tail flicking back and forth. Hopefully he would be able to trap him, slash at his shoulders and dig his horns into his flesh. He would have to be quick. The mane and tail on the other would be tricky if they got wrapped around him, but he was sure he could bite through it.

Oh great two hells in one; a kalona that happens to be a skinwalker, how fun. At least he wasn't as scary as he imagined- it's not like he was dripping in blood and covered in infectious looking swells that when pop spill out a strong acid. Aeolus narrowed his eyes, taking note of his horns. He could probably withstand a few blows, but a hit to his soft underbelly that most animals had would cause some serious internal damage. He took a few steps back, "I apologize then, as I won't be giving you the pleasure of a chase." He needed to conserve his running energy for when he was fleeing while the other was distracted.

Aeolus knew he couldn't fight, and running was pointless. For now the only thing he could do was probably just avoid attacks and perhaps try and tear the membrane of his wings- that way they were both at least grounded and he didn't have the edge of flight. Oh, and maybe some cheap moves too- if he could get stabbed in the stomach he could probably kick him in the stomach, right? Preparing himself he got ready for any sudden blows. He couldn't take any chances.

Megapi shook his head with a snort. "Don't apologize to me unless you escape me. A fight's as good as a chase when all is said and done. So long as it ends in blood and dinner..." He shrugged. "It's all the same to me. Of course, you won't escape..." Megapi noted the stallion. He was preparing himself, strategizing. I might have to think this through a bit more...He looks like a fairly intelligent horse. He may know my tricks...

I have the element of surprise. I've got to keep my wings in so that he doesn't rip them, and I need to not panic and turn into a wolf...that could be bad. Very bad. With little other warning, Megapi leaped into the air, his wings spread wide. He didn't get far up before he hit the branches of the tree, but it was far enough to dive a little down on the other, his tail lashing at his prey's face.

Aeolus would have to admit he was a little caught off guard- but he was able to duck and avoid the devil-like tail, though still receiving a scratch to his face. He tried to take a snap at it with his teeth, before quickly he backing up; making sure he stayed close to the tree though of course, as long as the other couldn't fly too high their aerial advantage wasn't to greet. His eyes scanned the ground for a broken branch, anything, that he could pick up and use to defend himself with.

"Since I will apparently become your 'dinner' will you not share your name? I would like to know the name of my own murderer after all, it is courtesy." Aeolus did not share his own name for numerous reasons- one, he probably didn't care, and two, identities in the hands of dangerous people were very dangerous. He got ready to dodge another attack, whether he had to duck, jump, or roll.
