there are plenty of what i would consider, deluded republicans as well as those who don't claim to follow either party that would argue that we have reached the American dream or damn near it because there is the potential for achievement. what they fail to realize is that, not unlike in the roman senate, it's extremely rare for anyone to make it big. too many aren't recognized if they don't make it. the amount of racial, gendered and ideological prejudice keeps many people from getting the respect one should give any other human being. we have a long, long way to go.
