THE ARTICLES OF FAITH
OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
1 We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in his son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
2 We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgressions.
3 We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel
4 We believe that the first principals and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the lord Jesus Christ ; second, Repentance ; third Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins ; fourth, Laying on of hands hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
5 We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
6 We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evanglists, and so forth.
7 We believe in the gift of tounges, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tounges, and so forth.
8 We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly ; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
9 We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
10 We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and the restoration of the Ten Tribes ; that Zion (the new Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent ; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth ; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
11 We claim the privilege of worshipping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
12 We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
13 We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men ; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul- We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

lemme take a stab at it...
the JST is some verses which would be better understood if they were written differently (ie. with different words or inserts) the JSTs are in the footnotes so as not to confuse with the normal reading of the King James version of the Bible

You know, sometimes, when people say we don't believe in Jesus, I want to say "My church isn't The Church of Bob of Latter-day Saints, it's the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints"

funtoys
i'm not gonna read everything. so i'll just say it... the church is true and that isn't gonna change.

What bothers me is when people believe that what they believe about the afterlife will happen to them and what I believe about the afterlife will happen to me ... they don't understand that there is one reality ....

funtoys
their is one reality... we'll all get all that our father has if we earn it. we'll all be resurrected and have perfect bodies and you know? i'm shooting for the celes... kingdom.

From "Resurection" page 1 of 1

[RED]Kooler
this morning in seminary....we discussed the topic of resurection...and the question came to my mind:

will the people who died before Jesus was resurected?

what do ya think?

funtoys
they will be resurrected. it is a promise. we'll all be resurrected, but not all of us will gain the highest glory.

Gwyndara
Imortality and Eternal life are two very different things.

Imortality is haveing a body and liveing forever.
Everyone who is born on the earth is given a body. It was earned in Heaven. Christ was reserected so that All who ever live on the earth will be reserected from Adam down until the last soul is born.

Eternal life is liveing forever with God in the Celestial Kingdom.
This is not garanteed, and we must work to earn it in this life.

Everyone who was righteous and died befroe Christ died, was resurected at the time of Christ's reserection.
We know this, for in the Doctrine and Covenants, it speaks of how Moses alread has recieved his Celestial Glory and is already a God.
The Doctrine and Covenants also tells us that Davids wives were given to others. Becasue he was no longer worthy of them.

Mahia M
Yes, Gwyndara is Right. 3nodding

The peoplisms from before Christ have already been resurrected. whee

only the rightouse were resurrected, not doctrine just my thoughts, because otherwise we wouldnt have skeletons from cavemen and all that jazz.

funtoys
the rightous were resurrected already...the not rightous are being saved for the second resurrection...
now there is a first and a second if we are good then we'll be resurrected in the first, if not then we wait until the second...
maybe the first already happend... now i'm confused. sweatdrop

The first reserection began at christs reserection and will continue untill all the righteous have been reserected.
Then the second reserection will happen, so on and so forth.
It does not pertain to our salvation, so we don't need to worry about when we will be reserected, we only need to know that we will.

From "Dersephy's Sunday Devotional" page 1 of 1

dersephy
well everyone,
i have decided that every sunday i will start posting a little devotional for everybody!! everything will be from the scriptures, or lds.org

the first post in this thread will be updated every saturday evening/sunday morning or so. so i would ask that a moderator kindly put the devotionals i post every week into a locked, memorable thread, b/c each week, the old dev. will be deleted from my first post, and replaced w/ the weekly new one! 3nodding

hope you all get somethin out of this! (i hope i do too.... sweatdrop )

well, here is the first one to start us off!! 3nodding

Escaping Temptation

thats a scripture mastery, no? 1 cor. 10:13 i believe! w00t!! new testament!!

Well, first off, everything you are tempted w/, well, ever6yone has been tempted w/. as kewl as all of you are, you are not in any way special in this sense. BUT, the awesome thing about it is, there is always a way out!! ( aint that nice of heavenly father to give us that whee ). But the tricky thing about escaping temptation is actually FINDING that way out, thats where most screw things up...... xp

Wait!! my devotional aint done yet! stressed

the book o mormon applies to our day, correct?? well, after taking this concept into consideration, i recalled a scripture somewhere in alma (i tried finding it again, but to no avail gonk ). The scripture said something to the extent of the nephites going to war w/ the lamanites, seeing there huge army, then retreating b/c they were outnumbered. Those that were fast enough escaped the lamanites mighty wrath, but those that were too slow were slain!! domokun

in other words, what i've been trying to say is that temptation is not something you face head on, b/c you WILL falter eventually. thats why its called ESCAPING temptation and not FACING temptation. just keep away from it. m'kay?? for dersephy?? biggrin

well, there it is, cya next week w/ the next one!! 3nodding

dersephy
*bumps*

feel free to discuss and say how awesome i am!

Torch24601
My friends and I compete to see how many scripture mastery verses we can get in a week. Yay, I have 1 so far. Spiffy devotional.

Thanks Dersephy!!! this is an Awsome idea!!!! and thanks for the wise words!!!

crying don't ever do that to me again!!! it reminded me too much of my friend Wendy. All we could do was tell her we love her no matter what and hug her and stuff, but she still left. She lives in Indiana now, i think, and won't talk to me any more or anything. crying crying crying

funtoys
wow! that really threw me off when i saw that... dont do that again... it made me really nervous. i would say dont do it. i went down that road once. it really wasn't pretty. i would also say watch the single's ward. you see when you're in the church everything turns out okay, but if not... then you get thrown in prison a lot for jumping cars off of cliffs.

Sakerra
DON'T DO THAT TO US! You just took twenty years off my life......I have a friend who tells us almost on a daily basis that when she gets older she will stop going to church and she won't raise her kids in the church either..... It allways makes me so sad, I pray for her though. Every morning and every night. I stand by her and let her know I care. I try to show her that the church isn't all don't do this and don't do that.... Just stand by them and let them know that you care. Maybe someday they will see the light again.

Haha. Singles Ward is a great movie. Sorry I scared you all? I acually just got back from being inactive. The one thing that got me back was one of the young women came to my house on sunday and drove my to church. She said that she cared about me and never think that no one cares about me. That really touched me. So here I am, active since 3 weeks ago! wink

My reponse would be to be really sad, and ask if there were any particular reason wny. Then I would try to help resolve the issue.

But too often, there is little one can do . . . crying

hi, have you ever heard of the lds church?? xd

JoshtheEvergreen
I'm probably considered inactive now. sweatdrop I don't remember the last time I went to church. i think its been 2 months now but i'm not quite sure. Not that its really by choice, I've just had to work about every sunday for the past 4 months. sweatdrop

that's only if you live in a place where they have more than one session. Cause around here, there's only one.. Except that right now another ward is using our building because theirs is being remodeled, so they go after us, but normally, it's just one session.

Mahia M
Sometimes I go twice in one day . . . stare I'm just crazy that way. whee

((Othr times I don't mak it becaus my sleep is comatose).)

But what sucks is that I can't go this Sunday! crying It's my co-worker's birthday, and she's gonna be in San Diego.

So, yeah, I have to work. *sighs* On a regualr basis, though: My boss knows that is out of the question for me. He doesn't even ask anymore, unless it's an emergency. ((i.e. somone not showing up.)) This is the first Sunday I've had to work in a while . . . sweatdrop

funtoys
too bad. oh well better luck next week right?
you can't make all of them. maybe you can have a couple of the preists come over to your house and give your family the sacrament. i've done that for some families before. it's a good experience.

Mahia M
Intersting. The thought never occured to me.

But I'm the only one missing out . . . confused

Anyways, I have very intention of going the following Sunday. 3nodding

My dad has sleep disorders so we can hardly ever make the 9AM session. The result: we normally stay for the next ward's sacrament which leads to me being able to see my cousins!!! But I AM sad that we can't go to our own ward's sacrament...

@Mahia: Yeah, 'personal sacrament' (I don't know what else to call it sweatdrop ) is a really cool thing. It's more spiritual somehow (at least to me)... like there's the same amount of spirit in the room, but because there's less people there, each person feels the spirit more... does that make sense to anyone but me? sweatdrop

[RED]Kooler
i would tell you that you have your agency......the decision is yours. i respect others' free agency...so thats always my response:/

Dragonwarrior_Keltyr
I dunno what i'd say cuz i'm kinda in that position. the only girl in the ward that i hang out with doesn't believe that the church is true, and well, i'm at a loss.

JoshtheEvergreen
I could always go to another ward, but I don't care for the members in the other wards. Not that they're a bad people, I just wouldn't feel comfortable around them. I barely feel comfortable being the guy thats left over at my ward.

I'm not even a considered a priest anymore i'm a "Prospective Elder" I'm like nothing. I'm a halfway between priest and elder. No-man's land. And I'm the left over youth in the ward. for my year. I'm 19 now. I'm the left over guy, that doesn't belong in the church, that should be on a mission now. but I can't go on a mission. I get the worst aura from the youth in the ward and stake. Well if there saying that and they don't know what thee talking about I would be upset. But then reflecting on the past if I was missing church alot and not paying proper respect to God. Then well I would be leaning more to the inactive side but if not I would just ignore them. Its really none of there business to know your life, thats betwwen you and God.

Ok... So I'm not going inactive. But what is ur response if someone in ur ward told you that?

1. Find out why.
2. Support them no matter what they decide.
3. Encourage them to pray about it
4. Threaten them with the mormon mafia. *we know where you sleep*

funtoys
yeah, i like number four...

LOL xd

kaidako
My friend that I made as a Beehive first moving into the Ward (Ward boundries switched I didn't move) is now inactive. Her best friend started talking to me online and ... wow she is awfully persuasive ... she had (my friend's friend) some bad experiences living in Utah with discrimination and she calls a lot of Mormons "Nazi Mormans" (grrr she spells it wrong). She is only 14, but has had 4 boyfriends and feels that is the point in living .... plus she kept telling me that her relationship with God is probably a lot greater than mine. I really miss my friend and she despises all Mormons now .... WHAT TO DO (btw I am the Mia Maid class pres. so it's kinda my responsibility as a leader and a friend to bring her back into the fold) stressed

Naphtalia
Sadly that is an issue with me and I am having a hard time with the church right now but yea so that is why i joined this guild to hopefully talk to ppl who are mormons and like to go to church and stuff..... sweatdrop

funtoys
i love church. if you're having a hard time go to the testimony thread.

Chibi_Brigham
JoshtheEvergreen
I'm probably considered inactive now. sweatdrop I don't remember the last time I went to church. i think its been 2 months now but i'm not quite sure. Not that its really by choice, I've just had to work about every sunday for the past 4 months. sweatdrop

Dude that sucks.

funtoys
yeah, it does... i'm so glad i dont have a job right now... i'll get one during the summer and i'll find one that i can take sundays off.

Kiotaka

Ya. I acually quit my job for that reason. It was back whenI was getting back to Church and my boss wouldn't reschedual(oops, spelling error) me to have sundays off. So I took off and havn't been back since.

funtoys
you gonna find another job? i'm sure there are some out there for you to take sundays off.

Kiotaka

Well, the thing is...I have baseball for my school that's starting so I need to have some time for that. Varsity sports can take up some time!

funtoys
well maybe you could get a part-time job...

Kiotaka
sweatdrop It was part time. I had a theater job.

Emiko Wolfy
*sobs* I think I just about died ... I know I don't post on the guild a lot but I'm very strong in my faith... I think I'd tell my friend to pray like it said in Moroni(sp sorry) thats all I could say

funtoys
yeah, good idea there... umm.... you'd have to just find a job that will let you take sundays off... not much else i can tell ya

beautifuldream
i am very mad at whoever started this thread, though some of the convo coming out of it was good. okay not so mad now. that is not something to joke about. i've seen people go inactive (even in my short time going to church) and have had inactive people come up to me and ask why i got myself into 'this filth' like i don't get enough of that from my mom. again not funny.

now, i have a challenge for you. find a hymn book, look ALL of these up, and if you can play a musical instrument, learn to play them. even the simplified version would do. i can play those plus some, and if you can't play them, sing them. 3nodding these are my favorites, and i can play all of them on the piano, the christmas ones i taught myself how to play them on the guitar.

kaidako

[RED]Kooler
you can change it in the new post page.....

Mahia M
Well, when you clicky on the "color" boxes, a clor pallette shows up on the screen. so you can just pick the colors you want from that. 3nodding

[RED]Kooler
that works too^_^

Mahia M
Hey, Kooler! Did you even checky out my link? rolleyes

kaidako
Font color: text [ /COLOR] Tip: can also use HTML color=#FF0000 so ... I need to do the last one to have it right on the thingy ... hwo do I know the number to use>>>> stressed

[RED]Kooler
lol link? what link?

Mahia M
Ok. On the textify link I gave you: There are two colors. "Color 1" and "Color 2". There are two boxes. These boxes display the colors currently selected. They start out black.

When you click on these boxes, a color palette (such as the ones on MS Word) pops up. Simply pick a color from said palette for each box, and Voila!

kaidako
