Kobe had seen the most marvelous creatures hiding in the shallow ocean pools along the coast of the beach! He just had to find someone to show and bring along on his next adventure to see what else may be in there. As the growing cub ran through the sand, he felt his paws sink in and struggle to make each step. It was certainly frustrating trying to get somewhere quick on sand. He'd have to ask his older sister how she learned to run so fast on the beach.
Despite his struggle, Kobe pressed on, nearing the den of his mother. Once he got there, however, the cub was disapointed to find that everyone was gone. With a frown, the cub paused and thought hard about what he wanted to do. It would have been perfect if he could tell him mother and father about the funny slimy things that scrunched up when he poked them. He had so many questions and they were certain to know the answers to most of them! They were such cool colors too!
Stepping outside his den again, Kobe looked around. He almost decided to head back to the pools alone when he spotted a dark red cub playing out on the beach alone. With wide eyes, the light colored cub padded over with a grin, "SAHARAN!" His tail swished behind him excitedly.
Saharan looked up when someone called her name. She'd ben digging at something buried in the sand and was loathe to give up her hunt. " What do you want, Kobe?" She asked as he came tumbling over. "I'm digging up a sideways-crawler, I think." She motioned to the top of the crab that was poking through the sand. She'd planned to chase it around, trying to figure out how it managed to walk so quickly sideways.
Unfortunately when she looked back up at Kobe the thing dug in deeper, and the rising wake of the tide reburied it. "Aww...Well I guess that's done for then." She frowned around at the other cub. "What's up? Or do you just like to come running around interrupting research?" Her tone was harsh but it was clear from her demeanor and the faint smile tugging at her lips that she wasn't really mad.

Kobe's ears perked up when he heard what it was that Saharan was doing. "A sideways crawler?" He repeated curiously, padding closer to where she was digging and taking a look at the tiny eyes that peered out at them. "Oh! Those are actually pretty tasty! Ma showed me how we can catch them and take them out of their shells." The cub frowned when the crab managed to skitter away and become reburied beneath the tide. As the water came in, Kobe watched in awe. He stepped out closer towards the waves and let it flow over his paws.
Turning back towards Saharan, Kobe almost missed her smile. His ears had begun to flatten when he realised she was only teasing him. Grinning again, the cub gestured towards the direction he came. "No, no! I have come to get you for a new adventure! I found these colorful slimy things near the rocks! There's also some sideways crawlers in shells...." Kobe made a strange expression and then continued, "But they don't crawl sideways from what I can tell.."
"Tasty, yeah...But I don't wanna eat it, and neither can you!" She faked a swipe at Kobe, keeping her claws tucked away. "I wanna watch it, maybe talk to it, if I can talk. I've never seen one's mouth up close, but they must have one, right? All things eat and...hey, are you listening to me?" She babbled, stopping to frown at the other cub when he was clearly more interested in the sea than her talking.
Still, her interest flared when he mentioned an adventure. "Oh, a tide pool?" She was familiar with those, but each was different, and so she was curious. "Shelled crawlers..." She thought a minute, and then got to her feet. "Lead the way, Kobe!" ...And despite her words, she was off running down the beach, an eager glint in her eye.
Kobe dived aside to avoid Saharan's paw, a grin on his muzzle. Landing in the sand with a thud, the cub waved his tail about him and jumped back onto his paws. The young lion didn't even bother to remove the sand from his fur. Living so close to the ocean, it was too much of a hassel to try and be clean all the time, especially when there were so many fun games to play near the beach!
His absent stare into the water was almost like a trance as he observed how the ripples changed when they went over small rocks. Despite what Saharah might have thought, however, Kobe was actually pretty good at thinking about multiple things at once. Without shifting his gaze to look at her, he responded quickly, "I've seen then put things in their faces, though it's not like any mouth i've ever seen!" Kobe's eyed widened and he suddenly looked towards the young female, "That would be so creepy to have a mouth like that! Can you imagine trying to clean your babies with things like THESE?" Kobe put both his paws close to his mouth and extended his small claws. Making opening and closing motions, he tried to imitate the mandibles of the crab.
As though the world was too exciting for Kobe to focus on one thing after another, the cub was ready to shift gears and move on, even without a continuation of his story. Following after as quickly as he could, Kobe grinned, "It was over here!" The cub pulled alongside the female, having become pretty quick through lots of practice chasing his sisters. Once he was beside Saharan he began to lead the way, bringing them to the small tide pool he spoke of.
Saharan couldn't help but laugh at Kobe's impression of a crab. That WOULD be scary! She shivered a little bit but wasn't shaken enough to take a swipe at Kobe as he caught up and pulled ahead. "Hey!" She wanted to be the leader but...well then again, he did say he knew where the crab was.
"...You think we can eat crab? Or is that not allowed? Hmm..." Crabs were hard but...She bet they were soft insice, and chewy! They didn't smell too bad, but fish sounded nicer. "Do you think we could find fish with the crabs? Or! Maybe some of those clam thingies!"

Kobe took a couple steps into the shallow waters of the edge of the pool and peered inside. For a moment he was so determined to find something to show Saharan he almost missed her question. "Eat the side ways crawlers?" He repeated with a grin looking back at Saharan. The thought caused the cub's stomach to rumble and his mouth to salivate. "I don't know how to do it myself, but ma knows just the right way to hit them with a rock and take out the meat. I think it's tastier than fish! I tried cracking one myself, but it kept running away..." He looked discouraged for a moment and then looked back into the pool. Finally, the cub grinned and reached a paw in quickly to grab something. As soon as his paw touched the green, slimy creature, he jerked it back while sticking out his tongue. "Blah! Maybe that's why I was told not to touch them. That was really gross." Kobe had finally calmed down enough to remember his company and look up to direct his attention to her - at least for a moment. "That's the slimy thing I was talking about. And-!" The sea slug had recoiled after the touch and now sat as a small, green ball. "Woah!" Kobe laughed loudly as he went deeper into the pool, "Didja' see that!? You should touch one!"
