Name: Jiriar (J’riar if he Impresses)
Age: Twenty Turns
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Craft: Herdcraft
Rank: Recently turned Journeman (if you'd rather him an Apprentice, let me know and I'll modify some things~)
Physical Description: Jiriar is a tall young man, though has a rather pitiful amount of weight to accompany his height. Instead of being filled out nicely, he retains a wiry sort of figure with meat spread so thinly over him that one could probably pick out his individual ribs. That isn't to say that he can't consume everything within sight however. Mainly because of Jiriar's spindly appearance, people are quick to assume that while he might be a fast runner, he’s lacking as far as strength’s concerned. Those same people will realize their mistake if they are ever on the receiving end of a punch. And true, while Jiriar can run, he hates to do so and prefers to amble about if no one needs him at the time. His choppy, mousy brown hair stops about half-way down the man's ears, giving him a disheveled array of bangs that hang within his hazel eyes. Said eyes often seem to glint with a hint of humorous mischief, but never any truly hostile emotions. His face is thin, though long as well, accenting his cheekbones highly. Lightly tanned skin from many hard hours of working outside reveals a slightly creamy color underneath, proving that Jiriar is even lighter in skin-tone than he already appears to be. He is not ashamed by this, or by his strong, calloused hands, and is not afraid to show that he has worked hard despite his somewhat lazy attributes.
Personality: A tasteful blend of different characteristics composes most of this male's personality. Jiriar is naturally a welcoming soul and takes it upon himself to make newcomers feel at home. He has a sort of air around him that makes one feel like getting to know him better. Perhaps it's his witty statements or the fact that he's never afraid to voice his complaints aloud. As aforementioned, this male has a lazy streak within him. If there is some sort of work that is not required to do, he'll certainly find a way to dodge it. Then, before he can be placed into a spot of trouble, he can cleverly devise an excuse that happens to be true in some way. If the work is serious though, then Jiriar becomes serious as well. He'll do his best to complete whatever task is set for him, and he won't be afraid to do it with a spot of humor either. The gangly male would also be useful in a fight, for, while he tends to avoid such skirmishes, almost nothing unnerves the journeyman. His level headedness has saved him more than once and lets him rationalize in potentially dangerous situations.
Romantically, Jiriar hasn’t honestly thought about being in a relationship with anyone—male or female. Most of his life has been spent working, and only now is he really able to interact with others around or close to his age. He’s not afraid to flirt with boys or girls, however, seeing it simply as a playful, friendly sort of thing.
History: Jiriar's mother passed away in child labor when he was only eight Turns, leaving him with just his father. He had been the first born, and a strong, healthy babe. Why his mother's strength had suddenly failed this time around was unknown. Jiriar's father was determined to raise his son the best he could, and then introduced the boy into the work of Herdcrafting. To the man's delight, Jiriar adapted easily to working with runner beasts and such, loving the time he got to spend caring for the animals. Over the next many Turns, Jiriar's skill continued to flourish rapidly, leading to his eventual promotion as a Journeyman. Perhaps he would have lived a very successful life, able to control beasts with a kind word and gentle touch. His sole job was basically to drive the poor animals there, food for dragons apparently, and as much as he marveled and wondered about the legendary creatures, Jiriar had never seen one.
Then the dragon came, to their home, for him. Jiriar had been selected as a Candidate despite his father's protests. After all, the boy had never been found for all these years! Surely he could not Impress a dragon. Those words both stung and shocked Jiriar, turning bitterly on his father to ask if the man thought he was unworthy of a dragon. Unable to gather a reasonable argument, the young man's father had no choice but to let him go. After all, this was the last year that Jiriar would be eligible for such an honor. Surely he would not make it and could come back to work with the beasts once more.
