It was cold, dark and rainy..well it wasn't the cold or even the rain that bothered her it was the dark clouds that loomed ahead making it hard for her to see. The hour was late and she had stayed holed up in her borrow all day hoping for the clouds to clear.
Her stomach growled, a painful reminder that her cowardice was starving her today. she crawled slowly up to the entrance to peek her head out, she winced ..it was even darker than she thought it was.
It really must be late.. she thought as she crawled backwards again to contemplate what to do..
"If I don't go now I'll never go" it didn't come out quite as convincing as she had hoped..but she didn't have a choice now. Dove scurried out of her hole and found a patch of grass to nibble on not more than 2 feet from her burrow.

Ah, rain, Desmond thought with a sigh as he hopped lazily, thoroughly soaked, Perfect weather for getting cold, sick, and bored.
He was on his way home, having just nipped out for something to eat. Being stuck in his ways, Desmond had braved the weather and gone to his favorite patch of clovers, refusing to break his habits for the silly old weather. As he was hopping along, lighting arced across the sky, lighting the fields. That was how he first saw her. Soaking wet, looking frightened and jumpy.
No harm in seeing if she's alright Desmond thought as he made his way toward the lovely doe.
"Greetings Miss!" He called out as he neared her.

Dove ate a small patch of plain tasting grass, with her eyes up and searching around anxiously. Her stomach rejoiced in the food, the rest of her body ached to return to the warm safety of her burrow.
She gasped at the voice, too panicked to recognize the actual words. She raced quickly towards her burrow, by the time she reached it she could make out the other Rabbit in the dark.
"Oh" she said. She shifted her body into a less tense stance, looking embarrassed. "Hello"
This was embarrassing for her but not the first time she'd made a fool of herself and no doubt the last. She blamed the fox the claimed her parent's life..she watched them from the safety of her burrow as they died. She shook the thought out of her face and forced a smile for the stranger..

"I apologize if I frightened you. I simply thought you looked a bit jumpy. Is anything the matter?" Desmond smiled back at the doe, and then, in after thought added "How rude of me, my name is Desmond"
She looks like she thinks I'm a cat or something
Hopping close enough to be heard, but keeping distance enough for her to feel comfortable, Desmond sat back on his haunches, awaiting her reply.

"No, nothing is the matter" despite her best effort's her voice trembled..she was trying not to come off as too weak.
"My name's Dove" she backed into her borrow a bit so just her head was sticking out. "Come in out of the rain?" she may be shy and timid but she still had enough manners to offer, her mother was very strict about that.
She scooted down her burrow hole to make room for him.

"Thank you" Smiling, Desmond bowed his head in thanks before entering her burrow and shaking the rain from his fur. "It's nice to get out of the rain."
Looking around, he wondered why such a young doe would be on her own, usually she would live with her family until she found a mate or was a bit older and was prepared to live alone. Mayhap she was just ready early. Who knew. Besides, living alone is rewarding in the freedom aspect. Sitting tall and proud, Desmond looked Dove in the eyes and cleared his throat.
"Dove, it's quite a lovely name. I don't believe I've seen you around the Warren, and I do get around." A Roguish smile fell onto his face and he winked at her.

She too shook the rain off her fur before settling down comfortably in the warm, dry bedding she had laid down fresh not more than a few days ago.
"I don't mind the rain so much, it's the dark I don't care for" she nodded, looking indirectly at Desmond. She was sure her face must of given away her surprise when the stranger hinted promiscuity.. Her parent's had been mated for life, though she had heard of others like Desmond she had never met someone who opened to a stranger about it.
"I don't go out much" However understated this was she didn't feel the desire to divulge too much to this Rabbit she had just met. Thinking about it she realized that she didn't really know ANY Rabbit in the warren.. "Uh..Do you live far from here?", It was a lame question but it was the best she could do to avoid awkward silence.

"Have you been east a bit, near the old tree stump? I live by there."
After a moment's pause he turned one of his most charming smiles on her, being the shameless flirt he was and said, "You know, you really should get out more often, the world needs more does like you"
With an exaggerated wiggle of his brows, Desmond turned on the charm,. After all, he had nothing better to do tonight, and he had a feeling that at least shameless flirting would keep the poor gal from being terrified.

Of that he was most certainly wrong, his flirting made her uneasy. She was dumbfounded at how to reply, her social skills desperately needed brushing off.
"I-um..well" Smooth, real smooth
"I'm sorry, honestly..I've lived here since birth and you're really the first Rabbit I've had a real conversation with," as if that would explain her social retardation.

"Well then!" He smiled brilliantly, "I'll have to make up for your lack of sociality and take you out tomorrow! I won't take no for an answer!"
With that, Desmond bid her goodnight and hopped on home, a smile plastered on his face. How grand to know what one was doing!

uggh She lay down in the soft bedding and put her paws over her face..There was no escaping this, she could tell easily that this was a persistent Rabbit. She didn't need him to tell her he wouldn't take no for an answer she could already sense it in his tone.
She wouldn't sleep well tonight, that was certain.

Upon waking the next morn, Desmond was cheerful. With a stretch and a mighty yawn, he crawled out of his burrow, ready to tackle the day and have a little fun with Dove while he was at it. But first, he had to wash up.
After his morning grooming regiment was completed, Desmond traveled the short distance back to Dove's abode and stood outside the doorway, sexy smile on his face.
"Anybody home?" He called impishly, knowing she was and that she'd have no choice but to come out with him. He could sense it was in her nature not to be rude.

She groaned quietly. So it wasn't a dream, This was going to be a very long day she sensed. Getting to her feet she crawled up into the sunlight, at least it wasn't dark. She secretly hoped that they wouldn't be traveling far, they had no chance against a fox..and surely this stranger wouldn't stick around to protect her anyway.
He isn't a stranger anymore she reminded herself. Well then he must be an acquaintance..this didn't put her at ease either. It was new and different and outside her comfort zone.
"Good morning" she looked beyond him at the green dew covered grass the seemed to sparkle in the sunlight. At least it's nice out.

"Morning! Are you ready to start our adventure into the great unknown? I know this great clover patch a little ways from here, it's an excellent breakfast spot"
He often roamed about, finding new and better places to eat. After all, having nothing to occupy his days and nobody to talk to in his burrow often as not was boring. It was nice to get out and do something new. Kept his mind from wandering too much, which might not be the best thing for him, his ideas weren't always the safest.
"Did you sleep well?" He asked as they hopped along. Polite may be the best way for him to keep her from skittering off on him.
It was warm, and sunny. He relished the weather and his good fortune. Meeting new rabbits was an especially fun activity in his book, even better when they were female and he could turn the charm on full blast!
Even though he led the way, ears alert for danger, nose sniffing the air as they went, he made sure Dove was beside him, not behind. After all, he did drag her out of her home, the least he could do was make sure she got back to it safely.

The warmth of the morning sun felt good on her coat, she hated the rain and the way it made her feel cold no matter if she was out in it or not. As Desmond talked about a clover patch, no doubt far from the safety of her burrow; a familiar feeling of dread and anxiety washed over her. She tried to prepare herself for the inevitability of one day having to venture far from her home.
"I slept fine" she said quietly, though she had hardly gotten any. Suddenly she stopped dead, like a deer caught in headlights she stared at a bush she swear she just saw move..
"s-s-s...somethings there"
