These lands were not unlike the lands he was familiar with. Coming here had been a wise decision. Regardless of the fact that he did not know much of these lands, Saeran was relieved to be away from his home. It wasn't like he disliked his home, true there were some that he did not care for, but he had to get away from his duties for a while. His job was not satisfactory, in truth it was extremely frustrating some days. He was a scout, a messenger sometimes, not a sitter! Saeran was rather annoyed by that particular decision made by the herd. However, he was unable to decline and so for years he was trapped.

But he was free now. And Saeran was glad for that. He pitied whoever had to take over his duties in his absence. It was a challenge, that job.

Saeran shook his head. No use to dwell on the past. He had to concentrate on the present or else he may wind up in a horrible predicament. Though he did wonder how the others who came with him were doing. Especially that one stallion. A young one, likely to have been considered a colt the previous year or so. Did not seem the brave type either; though, they all knew the choice they made and what their home required of them. Should they all not make it back in time, well that would be unfortunate but not entirely pressing. Saeran disliked that, he did not wish to leave behind any of his comrades but rules were rules. He wasn't stupid or foolish enough to disobey his herd.

The stallion continued on his way through the meadow. It was a peaceful place, beautiful also. The snow was melting and it appeared that some plant life were already blooming. Spring was his favourite season, it wasn't too hot like summer nor too cold like in winter. To see the flowers bloom again, watching as new life came to be. Yes, spring was truly a precious season. But Saeran could admit that each of the four seasons had its pros and cons.

He bent his head, nibbling on the grass. Cool on his tongue. It would do.

Winter had not been easy. Her first in this new land with its peaks and vales, with preditors that she had never seen before, and others who frankly she never wanted to. There had been tales she had heard on her trips to the low lands of things called kalona and skinwalkers.. and each time the stories had driven her back up the mountain to the cold and snow-driven peaks where she felt safer. It was near impossible to live there, but that was why she had chosen such a place. If it was hard for her, it had to be as hard for others... and maybe, it would keep them away.

So far it seemed to have worked. For she was still alive, if thinner than she had been. Pale coat that resembled the snows of the mountain was thick from the freezing nights, the bulk of it hiding much of her skinnyness. Grass had been rare on the high slopes and what plant life had survived the bitterly cold days was small and course. It was that which had finally driven her back down the mountain, as hunger gnawed at her and weakness had become a danger.. she had relented and travailed down the craggy mountainside to this small valley. She had been here a week now and the first flurry of eating had long since passed. The pain in her joints and stomach almost gone, though her condition was still poor. It would take more than a week on new spring grass to correct it, but for the time being she was content and felt reasonably safe.

As the stranger was drawing close to the medow, the young cerynei doe was stood dozing in the sun, her coat shimmering despite its lack of condition. Ears flopped sleepily to each side and one leg resting. The first warmth of spring had begun to seep into the air and it brought a drowsy contentment to the valley.

Finishing his light snack, Saeran began to look around. Though he had surveyed the meadow with curiosity when he arrived, he hadn't taken in everything. His gray eyes took in the grass, some areas tall while some shorter. He craned his neck to look towards the north where there were beginnings of hills. To the west were trees, he'd explore that area later. The east was where he had come from. The south, he turned around to look in that direction, just seemed to be a continuation of the meadow. However, it was likely to lead elsewhere. Perhaps towards that two-legger village or to a body of water.

Saeran knew of a stream close by but it was small, not a proper place to wade through and cool his entire body off. Or even to just have a wash. He'd go south in a few days, depending on how long the exploration of the forest would take. He walked through the meadow, heading towards the trees. He paused, turning his head.

He hadn't noticed the other.

But what was this other? It was not what Saeran was used to seeing. No, this creature was peculiar looking. It reminded him of a doe but in other ways this creature's features were like his, like a horse. A mare likely. The sight of this creature caught his attention. Saeran had to know what it was. Was this what the land contained? Creatures like these?

He hadn't expected that. Nor, in his earlier travels, had he encountered a creature like this. All he had ever seen were horses like him, regulars. Saeran tilted his head, still taking in the female's-for it had to be a female-appearance. Making a decision, he started over to her.

"Good day." He called out to her. "Spring has arrived. Do you not agree?"
