Pendulums can be different shapes, sizes, and colors. They can also be made from any material, doesn't just have to be gemstones. You can even use a necklace as a pendulum.
It is suggested though that if you want certain types of answers, different colors would be needed. For example, if concerned about love, a green or pink gemstone (I was taught before all this that pink was also associated with the Heart Chakra, along with green) such as jade or rose quartz can be used, as love has to do with the Heart Chakra. If asking questions about the Spirit Realm, white or clear gemstone pendulums can be used, such as clear quartz.

Many people know that pendulums can be useful tools for things such as answering yes-and-no questions, locating missing objects, or finding out a gemstone's aura to see if it needs to be cleansed, among other uses. What many don't know is that they have their own Realms. I found out about Pendulum Realms a few summers ago, when I frequented the Enchanted Cottage (no longer in existence) in Tiverton, RI. Lorraine, aka Zodia, taught me about them. She learned about them from a book called Pendulorum by Catherine "Calya" L. Avizinis.
Calya's teachings of Pendulum Realms is a bit different from what Lorraine taught me. In the book, Calya made a free-style Pendulum Realm, but instead of having each color as a listing for something, she named them as actual realms. She even wrote a novel, Calya's Chronicles, based on her Pendulum Realm.

In Pendulorum, it is suggested that you "praise" your pendulum with couplets. This could also be used for raising energy. Before I explain about the charts, let me go over with you the seventeen different colors of the Pendulum Realms. Note that seven of them, especially in their order, are familiar. Just when you thought there were only seven colors of the Chakras - well guess what, there are TEN more. I call this the Extended Chakras.
In the Realms, each shape of "land" or pie section would represent one of each color and the Chakra assosiated with them. In the pie chart, also could be in the free-style Realm map, each color will represent listings for your pendulum's Realm, such as animals, plants, different forms of emotions, etc.

There are two ways to create Pendulum Realms. One way is a free-style map that looks like an actual realm (like Calya's Pendulum Realm map). The other way is a simple pie chart. She also told me you can list anything you want to for these realms, according to what your pendulum's realm is based on.

Materials to make Pendulum Realms

- pendulum, any or all you have

- plain white construction paper or small white poster board (approx. 12x9 in.)

- 1 ruler with cm. markings (has to be at least 30 cm. long) or a ruler that's at least 12 in. long

- 1 compass (circle-drawing kind)

- 1 # 2 pencil (or # 3) with an eraser

- 1 box of colored pencils, crayons, or markers (be sure to have these 17 colors: black, white, gray, pink, red, green, peach, aqua, indigo, purple, burgundy, lime, yellow, brown, violet, orange, blue - if there is no white, it's fine, you can leave the space for white blank on the construction paper or poster board)

* It would work best if your pendulum is cleansed first. You can cleanse it by full moonlight, sunlight, sea salt, water (if it's constructed of a stone that is sensitive to salt and/or water, do not cleanse it that way) or positive energy.

* Be sure to have a name for your pendulum. In order to find out your pendulum's name, hold its chain in your power hand, dangling the pendulum over the opposite palm, and ask politely questions such as, "Are you named for an angel? A tree? A fairy?" If it says yes (swinging up and down) over your palm, ask if it's .. any random name, until it's affirmative. Or you can just ask any random name, it doesn't have to be named for anything.

* It would work for the better if you are polite to your pendulum, calling it by name when beginning each question, and saying "please" during and "thank you" after.

* It would be best to know what you want to have your chart made for beforehand. If you don't know what you want your chart to be made for, ask your pendulum politely. When it gives you an affirmative answer, but you don't know what to put in your chart, again, ask your pendulum for 17 different listings, asking if it wants "this or that" in the chart/realm. Make a list of what you and/or your pendulum come up with. For example, if making a realm chart about medicinal herbs, and you come up with herbs such as lavender and chamomile, but you don't know what else to put in, ask your pendulum, "so-and-so, please tell me if you want .. mint to be in your realm". If it says yes, mark it down on the list. DO NOT mark it down in a chart just yet.

* In some cases, two or more listings can be put in the same colored area on the chart, as long as they are similar. Be sure to consult your pendulum about it before deciding to combine two or more into one. For example, if you have spearmint and peppermint in a listing (to go with the example of the chart for herbs), you can ask your pendulum if it's ok to combine them, for both to be in the same listing. If they can, count them as one, not two separate listings. In other words, if they're already included in 17 listings and you combine them, you would have 16 listings and would have to come up with a 17th, and so on.

How to make a Realm Pie Chart

- Half-way down the construction paper or poster board, draw a line with the pencil 17 cm. (7 in.) across - mark a bold dot at 9 cm. (or 4 in.) (the center point).

- With the compass, place the non-writing end on the center dot, and, stretching out the pencil part, draw arcs connecting the ends of the 17 cm. (or 7 in.) line to form a circle. The circle should end up with a circumference of 17 cm. (or 7 in.).

- Draw a straight line intersecting the middle of the chart, making 4 quarters (each quarter should be 10 cm. or approx. 4 1/2 in across). This line can be a tiny bit longer than 17 cm (7 in.) - at the top and bottom ends, you can write "yes". At the ends of the original line, mark "no".

- With the pendulum, ask where the color white is, starting at the center dot (white should always encompass the center dot, it is rare that it is found among the other colors). Be sure to label this area as "white". After locating white, take the pencil and trace the pattern your pendulum is making, according to the area. When that is done, draw small pictures of a sun and moon, usually the moon is over the sun. It doesn't matter where in the white area they are drawn.

- Ask the pendulum where the color black is. Black either encompasses white, or is out among the colors in the chart. If the pendulum indicates that black encompasses white, trace the pattern the pendulum is moving with the pencil around white. If it is among the "slices" in the chart, with the ruler, mark which space the pendulum is pointing in. The space should be 4cm. (or approx. 1 1/2 in.)

- Repeat with the remaining 15 colors, asking the pendulum where they are, and using the ruler to draw the space where they are indicated. For example, ask your pendulum, "so-and-so, can you please tell me where in your realm the color peach is?" And when it shows where peach is, mark it and say, "Thank you". Be sure to label which color is in what space. It's best to write it directly above the space, outside the chart.

-There should be four 4 cm. (or 1 1/2 in.) spaces per quarter (in the case of black encompassing white, one quarter would have 3 spaces, so it may be best to stretch out the spaces in that quarter).

- When that is all done, consult your list and ask in individual questions which listing appears in what color.
For example: "so-and-so, can you please tell me what color such-and-such is in?" When the pendulum points to a specific color, write down in the center of the space in big letters what listing goes in that space.
Another example: if the pendulum indicates that a certain listing is in the color blue, write down the listing in the blue space. If you are combining two or more listings in one color space, be sure to write smaller to fit them in.

- With a black colored pencil, marker, crayon, or even pen, go over each of the listings, colors, and lines for the spaces.
- Color in the spaces according to what color they are. If need be, you can color around the name of the listings (would be best to do this for the black space).

- Label the chart with your pendulum's name and what the realm is of or for.

- Optional: you can either frame or laminate your chart, so it doesn't get ruined.

* It is a good idea to make a draft first before you and your pendulum make the actual chart, in case there are mistakes, but that is only optional. If making a draft and creating the actual chart afterwards, check with your pendulum to make sure that each color and listing appear in the same spaces that are in the draft.

* You may want to check with your pendulum if the colors are in the correct spaces, and the listings are in the correct colors. It's best to do this before you go over the pencil tracings with pen/marker/crayon and color the chart in.

* Each pendulum would have a different realm, with different listings. If you have multiple pendulums, repeat the process and create separate lists for separate charts. The colors appear in random spaces, which are different for each chart. It is up to you what you want the chart to be used for.

How to make a Free-style Pendulum Realm

- On the same type of paper/poster board you'd need for the pie charts, find the center of the paper and mark a bold dot with your pencil.

- Hold your pendulum over the dot and ask it where the Realm of white is (be sure to say "please" and "thank you"). Again, white usually encompasses the dot in the middle of the paper.

- Allow the pendulum to swing around freely, and for it to gain enough momentum to give a definite shape. Once it's in full swing, trace the pattern with your pencil as best you can. The shapes may turn out to be circles, arcs, or any other pattern your pendulum would point out. If need be, draw arrows pointing in the direction of where your pendulum is swinging.

- Once you have the white "Realm" set, draw the sun and moon the same way in the pie chart, moon over sun.

- Since I've found that black, at least for me, is almost always near white, ask your pendulum to find the Realm for that color next. Again, trace the pattern of your pendulum onto the chart.

- Repeat with the other 15 colors. In cases of overlapping and circling within colors, do the best you can to trace the pattern without it invading others. Be sure to label each color and number them according to their order in the extended chakra list.

- Color everything in according to their colors.

- If you had made a pie chart of this Realm beforehand, compare that to this Realm map you just made. Ask your pendulum if the listings you had made in your pie chart can be found in the same places in the Realm map.

What if my pendulum took a ride in the dryer and the tip broke off? Is it still usable, I feel it is but I am not sure. It feels like the energy is un-harnessed. My pendulum is made out of Greenstone, a cousin of Goldstone, and just the very itsy bitsy tip broke off.

...Maybe the energy is because it is hurt...? ._.
