Today the air was fresh and heavily laced with the perfume of newly budding flowers. LuLu took notice of this and felt drawn outside. Josh was hesitant to let the newborn raevan outdoors. Nevertheless, out of much groaning and complaint, LuLu had gotten her way. It was the usual way things turned out. Josh couldn’t help but melt under her pouts and protests.

Now she floated about the small yard blissfully. She gave special attention to examine the small patch of land around her. The flowerbed north of the house had a lovely patch of clover. The area left of that contained an exquisite sampling of wildflowers. Likewise, she had found a delightful bush full of an assortment of grasshoppers and ladybugs. LuLu felt like she was in paradise. Except there was one major flaw in her ecstasy. The fence surrounding her felt too… well, enclosed. She mused momentarily as she began to inch closer to the gate leading out of Josh’s yard. Her guardian's warnings rang clear in her furry ears. “Do not wander off LuLu.” However, they went unheeded. She peeked over her shoulder to see if anyone was watching then quickly began to fumble with he latch. Her slight fingers worked with the contraption until it clicked open.

Success! The raevan inched out hesitantly into the newly found territory outside her home. It seemed dirtier. On the other hand, she could not mistake the empowering feeling of freedom. She relished in the sensation before she wandered away further, curious of what things she would run into.

Since her last meeting with Wit, Alex had finally located someone to commission a custom halter for her climbing gear. It was how the woman and her charge found themselves in a residential part of Aekea, on the edge of a plethora of houses and the business district. The Italian was not keen on making Zul stay put the whole time, especially given his penchant to get bored swiftly and start poking around where he shouldn't, and so gave him the go-ahead to stay outside so long as he stayed within view of the home-based business they were currently at.

Naturally, Zul agreed.

The demonic Frei was not terribly impressed by the weather, as it was nothing he could easily feed from. Bone-framed wings arched lazily behind him as he floated along the sidewalk, fingerless gloved digits tracing over wrought-iron fences and the occasional bush in passing. There was no breeze, but he moved at a lazy pace fast enough to stir his bi-colored hair, his central horn pulsing rhythmically in his contentment. The sun did feel good on his skin, although it wasn't near warm enough for his liking. He'd go take a romp at the beach when they got home to remedy it.

Crystalline blue eyes turned over the houses as he floated, not terribly impressed with any of them. Sure, some had interesting colors and designs, but they mostly looked the same to him without any distinguishing features. Zul was perplexed by this simple fact, if not only because people themselves were so diverse. Why settle for something as ordinary as everyone else? Humans were such confusing creatures. The Raevan grunted to himself, looking forward to the turn of the block. At least his woman and Ethan had interesting abodes, far prettier than anything he'd find here--

Except, there...at the corner...!

Those ears, beautiful eyes and wings, the uncertain demeanor and dark skin!

House-judging was forgotten. "LuLu!" he called out, smokey voice carrying further than its volume would have suggested. He floated a little faster towards his dear bunny femme, ribbon curling and twisting against his sudden increase of speed. Would she remember him? Oh he hoped so! But if not, he would build new memories. He was not letting this one out of his sight so easily!

LuLu floated further into the depths of Aekea. The countless yards around her seemed to elevate her euphoria. House after house passed by the young frei as if she was seemingly lost in time. LuLu was in a world of her own and it was filled with yellow-green fields speckled with lush flora.

Eventually, the fragile raevan paused to emit a tired sigh. Unused to this much activity, she felt like she had traveled for hours. LuLu’s initial feeling of empowerment began to dwindle into a nagging lethargy. Now would be a good time to go home. LuLu turned around dismissively and was confronted by the endless line of identical houses. Her heart sank. She froze in shock. Her gentle lavender eyes shot around expectantly as if her home should have been right behind her. Where was it?

The raevan could no longer focus on the flowers and insects that had once amused her. They now seemed to only remind her of home…. the place she desired to return to. The cookie cutter buildings did nothing to help guide her through the labyrinthine neighborhood. Her motions turned frantic as she began to float about aimlessly. Her wings gave tiny beats as her pace quickened. Everything looked the same, everything felt the same. For once, LuLu wanted something to be different.

“LuLu!”

The small raevan’s ears perked up as they caught a familiar, husky voice. LuLu spun around to meet the owner of that low tenor. Zul. The frei rushed over to the other raevan. Once again, he called out like a beacon to her. "Zul." The frei bolted across the small road separating them. She was too relieved to notice the oncoming car she had just run in front of…

He saw her lips form his name, and his heart - wherever it may have been in his partially formed chest - soared. The demonic Frei floated towards her in response, almost able to see the scene in his head like one of those corny movies his woman watched from time to time. But there was something wrong. Blue eyes shifted to catch the sight of the oncoming car near LuLu, noted the distance, noted his dear LuLu not paying the least bit of attention. It happened quickly in his mind, that perfect white rage laced with a sharp tendril of fear, and he was reacting.

Zul pulled his arms back, bent at the elbows as though preparing to push something in front of him. His central horn pulsed brightly as flames began to trickle from his elbow down his forearms like hot water, pooling in his palms. In a deliberate motion, he pointed at the driver, the licking flames illuminating his anger-filled face terribly. Fortunately, the angry Raevan was not the best of aim, and his wrath - which had been aimed for the stunned driver staring at his LuLu - left his hands and body in a shower of molten sparks, enveloping the back tire of the vehicle, causing it to veer...towards him. He didn't care the the scent of burning rubber suddenly filled the air, or that the screech of brakes was loud and dangerously close; the Raevan had yet to learn a sense of pain and his own being.

He felt nothing as his hands slammed against the front of the car, stopping it completely with the aid of its breaks. The hood dented and contorted oddly beneath his fists, and for the first time in his existance, Zul bristled with the fiery parts of his demonic soul. His smile was pulled into a snarl to expose sharp teeth, nose crinkled between illuminated fire-blue eyes, bone wings spread menacingly. Molten heat continued to seep from his hands, sparking sluggishly over the metal. How dare this human think to harm his LuLu! How dare the metal contraption barrel towards her thusly! Why, he'd give the mortifed human a good what-for, if not for the fact that the thought of LuLu had snapped him out of his boiling self-righteous rage, causing him to blink back the inner flame and lower his wings, looking over to her.

She was okay. It didn't hit her.

"LuLu," he purred again, leaving the broken vehicle and its owner without pause, floating peacefully towards the female Raevan. His ribbon was slightly dirtied and a little worse for the wear, having not realized that the grill had marked it, but it was unimportant if it didn't hurt. "Are you okay, pretty LuLu?" His smokey voice was little more than a coo, arms extended towards her but not forcefully embracing her this time, even though his body had already cooled into slightly below his normal warm temperature.

A similar heartwarming scene played in LuLu’s mind as she floated closer to her immaculate, aqua eyed hero. However, a screech of tires interrupted her from those blissful thoughts. She saw a steel monster charging towards her. A scream built up in her chest but the frei could only manage a frightened squeak. Her lilac eyes grew wide in horror then flitted over towards Zul. Those deep pools begged for any sign of help. To her amazement, LuLu saw her hero take on a much different form. The male raevan was enveloped in fire; her defender had become a beast himself. Zul produced a few raging sparks that launched at the metal beast. LuLu could feel the heat smoldering around her and huddled on the ground hoping it would provide some sort of protection from the molten attack. She peered through split fingers in horror as she watched the beast dash towards her protector. There was another loud screech and a crunch. This sound was so much more powerful than the sound when Zul had defeated the white monster. This sound indicated safety. Zul had won. LuLu’s ears perked, followed by her head as she sought out her flame ridden hero.

That smile. The only thing she could see through the smoke and damage was that smile. It was pulled tight and menacing. The slightest bit of fang was visible past his thin lips. LuLu gasped in terror at the dreadful sight of that terrible smirk. Then all too quickly that grin was gone and was replaced by a warm body and tender words. The frei’s senses where overcome by the crackling of fire, the foul stench of burnt rubber, and the heat of Zul’s arms wrapped around her own shivering limbs. LuLu looked up at him with her soft eyes and furrowed brow. Her lips trembled as she spoke, "Yes. Zul…” She couldn’t find the words to describe the awe she felt. The driver and the beast were forgotten as she hugged Zul tightly in gratitude.

Mine.

Blue eyes narrowed over her blonde hair at the metal contraption before he dismissed it completely in favor of fussing over the female in his arms. "My LuLu. I am sorry. I should have come to you." He could have dealt with the motor-propelled creature on his own then, without endangering his sweet bunny Frei. Tanned arms encircled her protectively, hugging her gently in return; it was a new sensation, this mutual hugging with innocent intent, but he could certainly learn how to deal with it in favor of LuLu's smile.

"Is your man caring for you?" he asked at length, eventually beginning to float them both out of the street and towards the sidewalk he'd previously been meandering on. He didn't really want to scrap with another snarling vehicle. "He is taking care of pretty LuLu?" Zul found it quite important to know if the 'Josh' character was treating LuLu with the respect and consideration she deserved! He wasn't entirely sure why he felt that she should be so much more cared for than the others he had met, but he felt it was important and thus it had to be. It was the most logical explanation, after all.

Where was he, anyway?

Zul cast his bright gaze around the surrounding area (and pointedly ignoring the yet unmoving vehicle), finding no trace of Josh. Concern weighed in him suddenly, but he didn't let his smile waver, fingers drawing through the tips of LuLu's hair reassuringly as he posed his question. "Are you alone?" While he wasn't the biggest fan of the idea of the timid Raevan wandering on her own, he wasn't immediately worried; he was alone too, after all, but he knew where his human was. He vaguely wondered if Alex would be impressed by his conquering of the Evil Contraption, and deciding that she would be, he resolved to show her later. His current attentions were quite taken.

LuLu shook her head at Zul’s response. Her pigtails swayed side to side then fell down again to frame her stern face. He had protected her. What more could he have done? She scolded him for those thoughts with a serious chime of her bell-like voice, “No. I do not want Zul hurt. I am fine.”Her eyes narrowed with resolve. Everything was settled for now. It was quite obvious from the smoking vehicle behind them and its dumbstruck owner. The monster was defeated and somehow they managed to float off with no interruption from its owner. The driver was probably too frightened to confront a demonic frei and his damsel in distress.

LuLu’s face took on a more pleasant smile at Zul’s next question. “Josh. Yes, he is very nice.” She recalled the coloring book he had gotten her the first day she had arrived as well as the clothing and the dolls she had bargained for in the consecutive weeks. She also remembered the delightful feeling caused when his mother styled her hair every now and then. Of course, it was nothing compared to Zul’s tender, sympathetic pets. The female frei fluffed up with excitement; the fur on her ear bristled and her own hair ruffled slightly from her enthusiasm. Zul just had to see the way Josh took care of her. More importantly, he had to see all the things she had gotten. “I want to show you my home.” But that brought up another question.

Where was her home?

LuLu’s expression faltered into a small frown and she huddled closer to Zul as she recalled her previous situation. Fear seized her once more. Her hands snaked around Zul’s chest and took refuge along his back. She amused herself by playing idly with the rough bone-like projections along his spine. Her face scrunched up in thought as she tried to form just the right words to explain her circumstances. She found herself floating even closer to the other frei for the comfort it provided and the fact she was embarrassed at her current state of affairs. LuLu pressed her body gently against his and rose just high enough to whisper in his pointed ears. Her breath ghosted over his skin and was laced with the slightest suggestion shame, “Not alone. Zul is here. I am lost.”

The serious note in LuLu's usually sweet and gentle voice made him smile widely, nodding and lowering his head as though being chastized. How sweet of her! Looking out for him even though she had nearly met the snarling maw of the nasty contraption, now fading behind them as he moved her along the cookie-cutter houses. He wasn't really watching where they were going, crystalline eyes only for the Frei in his arms; then again, he didn't really need to pay attention, he reasoned, as his woman's truck was hard enough to miss.

Zul was soothed by her smile, content then that he had made the right decision in letting Josh take her home. Yes, he would have certainly known better than to release his precious damsel into the care of someone as thoughtless as the one they left behind, to leave her in the clutches of a heartless beast! As she fluffed with excitement, so did he too begin to exhibit signs of being carried along with her joy; his wings beat softly to expel some of his energy, smile wide and content, eyes flickering with a passing fancy of chase and play. It was a natural reaction to his joy, something he was trying not to randomly burst into everytime he was pleased.

"I would like to see your home," he replied earnestly, wondering what type of home this Josh-man had. Was it like his woman's, a modest but spacious abode? Like Ethan's, a higher up place that was full of space and white? Looking over his LuLu, he decided that it must be more like her, something...warm, soft, like a familiar and loved blanket. It sounded nice, making him smile more widely.

But the frown started on her lips, effectively halting his own glee, dousing his mounting joy. Even in her distress, there was something painfully lovely about the way her nose crinkled in thought, how she pressed closer as if osmosis would give her an answer. The fingers on his sensitive spine would have made him shiver were he any less composed; as it were, he was quite distracted by the soft, warm weight on his chest, blue eyes glancing down as she reached his ear to receive an eyeful of tribal cleavage. It felt much as he had thought her home to be, which understandably confused him for a few heartbeats.

His eyes regained focus, shifting sidelong to the darker skin so close to his own, his long ear moving a little beneath that soft breath, the words settling against him with a sense of dismay. Lost? "Yes, LuLu is with me," he confirmed quietly, his lower voice little more than a rumble without the smokey tone to soften it. "I will make sure LuLu finds home again. Josh-man will too." He added the last part as an afterthought, sliding his arms beneath her boney wings to embrace her. "I'll take care of you."

They would just have to find his woman. She knew about the Guardians and the Raevans, so she should know what to do. Zul wasn't terribly fond of having to rely on her for such things, but she belonged to him, so he supposed there was no problem with utilizing that which worked for him.

LuLu’s thin arms squeezed Zul a bit tightly as the two raevans embraced. It was as if she feared the other frei would disappear at any moment if she did not hang on to him. The female frei took no notice of her male counterpart's adventurous gaze; rather, she found herself mellowing into a blissful stupor in Zul’s arms. LuLu was becoming distracted by his twitching ears and warm body. The demonic frei was comforting to her. She could not exactly describe the feeling his presence gave her, but it was very reassuring.

LuLu snapped from her languid thoughts when Zul’s subdued voice glided past her ears. The fair-haired appendages gave a sudden jump as she detached herself from Zul. LuLu nodded resolutely at Zul’s words and took his hand as she pulled him forward. “Yes, Zul always protects me. He will find my home.” There was little force behind her actions; however, it was rather obvious she desired to find her house.

A soft smile upturned LuLu’s lips once more as she mused to herself. First, when they found her home, she would show Zul the yard she loved to play in. Then, the pretty bushes filled with flowers and ladybugs. Zul would love that! She was already becoming giddy at the though of having Zul over at her home.

His wide, dazzling smile returned as the bunny femme began to pull him forward, holding her hand lightly within his own. "That's right," he purred softly, although if it was towards the comment of protection or finding the home, he did not discern. Zul felt he could do anything if LuLu said he could; with that type of belief and faith within him, the demonic Frei was certain he was capable of moving mountains. He thought he might have to try that sometime.

The male floated to LuLu's side, hand still held, encouraging them both down the sidewalk. He didn't yet see his woman's truck, but he knew it was at least two hands of finger's worth of houses away, parked in front of the one they'd need to get into. Blue eyes turned over the nearest few houses, remembering the putrid green one and the coastal blue next to it. Yes, this would be easy. It would take them a few minutes at best to find the coral pink one with a darker sunset trim if they weren't distracted; he'd barely had time to explore when he'd found his lovely damsel.

"What," he inquired after a moment of thought, "is LuLu doing out here? My pretty LuLu, should be with her home or Josh-man."
PostPosted: Sat May 16, 2009 6:29 pm

LuLu’s gaze wandered as she considered the other raevan’s question; her gentle, purple eyes never really met with Zul’s. Whether it was due to embarrassment or her waning attention span was unknown. She spoke up in her bell like tenor, “I wanted to explore.” It was the simple truth and she felt satisfied with her answer. Her own hand entwined in his further as they ventured down the unfamiliar sidewalk. It was one of the small signs that confirmed the fact that she was still uncomfortable with her new surroundings. Her ears fidgeted thoughtfully as she continued with her explanation, “It is scarier than I thought. Monsters are here.”

LuLu caught sight of a butterfly and her attention was completely lost. She followed its retreating form until it landed on a vibrant red flower. She clung to the white picket fence separating her from the curious creature. LuLu leaned as best she could over the wooden barrier and paused to inspect the fragile insect. Her tanned arm reached past the fence to grasp at the flower and brightly colored its occupant. The butterfly was scared away; however, her goal now seemed to be the crimson flower. She plucked it gently from the bush it was entangled in. The flower soon found its way into Zul’s bi-colored hair; it was mixed in lovingly among the strands of orange and creamy white. When she was done, she returned her attention to her response, “Pretty things are here too. Like flowers. Like Zul.” She smiled widely at her companion and hoped that she had used all the adjectives Josh had taught her correctly. The last thing the frail rabbit frei wanted to do was somehow offend her protector. She admired Zul entirely and she admittedly needed his assistance.

She also added a question of her own, “Why is Zul here?”

He watched. His blue eyes were all for the bunny-femme, observing her gentle antics and rather liking the subtle warmth of her hand in his. It was a comfort, a means to soothe himself that she would stay with him, stay safe, and that the rest of their time together would be blessedly uneventful. Zul's long ears remained attuned to LuLu, chuckling in a soft rumble at the mention of monsters; there was no need to fear such things when one's knight could dismantle them!

His fingers loosened as the other seemed to suddenly be enthralled with a...what it was, he had no idea, only catching a brief flutter of something iridescently colored amongst a plethora of scarlet blooms. His blue eyes mindfully kept a tight watch on the blonde, making sure no belching monsterous scrap metal piles would come barreling her way; the notion was suddenly wiped from his mind as LuLu was against him, pressing something into his hair. Zul wasn't entirely sure what it was, mostly taken with her impossibly amethyst eyes. She really was quite a pretty creature, one who would certainly need his protection.

"LuLu is so very sweet," he replied with warmth in his voice, bowing his head although careful not to disturb whatever was nesting in his hair. The air smelled a bit more pleasant, something he simply attested to LuLu's presence. "You can always find me," he lightly chided her, "without hurting yourself. LuLu is very important."

And with that, they were on the move again, his own question poised to him. "My woman has a special harness," he explained, feeling quite intelligent for being able to use such words and know what they meant to a degree. "But, it is...boring, human things. So I went out to explore, like LuLu." Zul cast the bunny a warm smile, winking one sky-blue eye. "And we explorers found each other."

LuLu trailed next to Zul at a slow, languid pace. She continued following him towards Alex and the promise of finding her home. The spring air was heavily perfumed by the smell of flowers and liveliness of nature. The intoxicating aromas seemed to overpower the rabbit frei’s nose and cloud her senses. It spurred her desire to explore again. The fact that she now had a valiant protector around her arm also served to ignite her yearning for adventure.

LuLu could also pick up on a musky scent that hung in the air around her. It was distinctly masculine and was a stark contrast to the other fruity and floral scents that hovered around her. She decided that it was coming from Zul. It made sense the female raevan that Zul’s smell would be uncharacteristic of their surroundings. He already seemed out of place in comparison to the brush and wilderness that LuLu was fond of in this area; surprisingly, the neighborhoods around Aekea managed their yards religiously. It could have been to make up for the complete lack of vegetation in the mechanized bowls of the city. LuLu had no complaints. The female raevan leisurely closed her eyes and took in more of that spicy scent to remember it. Her eyelids rose slowly and her lilac orbs met with Zul’s electric blue ones, “Zul is very important me.”

At Zul’s next statement, Lulu’s features mounted with confusion, delicate eyebrows arched upwards to express her intrigue. “Harness?” Her mouth moved awkwardly around the new word as she tried it out. Zul mentioned that it was boring; however, LuLu still wondered just what the word meant. Next, LuLu was thrown off by the movement of Zul’s eye. Was he trying to blink? That could not be it. She paused and contemplated why he had preformed such a foreign action. LuLu’s ears twitched in excitement as she formulated an answer. It is a secret explorer greeting! That must be it! Lulu smiled and returned Zul’s wink, “Explorers should stay together.”

When her lilac gaze found his own, he felt warm with the words said to him. Zul knew he meant something to the bunny Frei, but to hear the words said and with such plain frankness stoked his ego quite remarkably. His half-formed chest swelled with pride, his grin wide and happy as she repeated the odd word to him, giving a singular nod; the next words, however, accompanied by that pretty wink only served to add fuel to the consuming fire of his current belief that he could do no wrong.

"Should we explore more?" he offered brazenly, the excitement he felt settling into his grin. "I can mark where we've been, so we can find our way back." To demonstrate, he extended his free hand and grasped the near by fence post, fingers twined around the wood. A light hissing sound followed, a faint curl of smoke thereafter; when his hand lowered, the wood glowed with internal embers. They faded under the lack of heat to sustain them, but the wood remained charred and easily distinguishable amongst the greenery.

He didn't notice the few flakes of ash that fell from beneath his gloves as his hand rested at his side, fingers curling to scratch his gloved palm. "What do you say, Explorer LuLu? Do you want to see more?" Zul was bitten by the mischief bug, unthinking of any possible consequence that could befall them. They had each other, could easily discard any vehicles that challenged them - why not have a little fun?
