Who: Wit (Sephiros) & Rivener (Aphismet) When: Mid-Afternoon Where: Browsing the streets of Durem Weather: Disgustingly bright and sunny
Wit really was going to give his housekeeper a nervous breakdown one of these days. The blond halfbreed had left the house at a disturbingly early hour of the morning, with no intention of returning anytime soon. His jaunts out and about in the city had become far more frequent of late, ever since that incident with the kitsune, during which Dweian had been stuck at home, babysitting, and Wit had come to discover that he not only was fond of the illusive Shadow's company, but that it was grand fun to go on adventures without a nanny in tow.
Feeling more like a rebellious teenager versus a fully functional adult, Wit had indulged himself in the thrill of disobedient frolics and, true to form, had decided to stick his nose into anything and anywhere that looked particularly intriguing. At the moment he was tossing a black umbrella from hand to hand, something that he'd purchased in a small curio shop a few blocks back. It was a hefty thing, adorned with golden patterns, and on the handle there was a massively beaked creature of indeterminate species. It had simply caught his eye, and he had the money to spend.
He was resisting the temptation to open it, but then that would totally negate the use of his top hat, which, despite being clad in tattered jeans, sneakers, t-shirt, and a light jacket with rather out of place pin-striping, adorned his head as though it were a natural extension of his body.
No, he would not belittle the top hat. Its feelings might get hurt. With that thought in mind, he continued down the lane, near-oblivious to everything about him, unless it be particularly shiny.

Rivener flipped his cellphone closed with a tolerant sigh. Aphismet was calling way too much today. True, Riv refused to tell the man where he was going, but honestly! Aphi should have more faith in the Scorpion's ability to take care of himself! Rivener shoved the cell back into his pocket, fishing out the folded map and the small notepad instead, once again resuming his search.
"Uhm... Let's see." The notepad had three or four addresses written on it. Well, on this sheet at least. There were a few more sheets of addresses beyond this one. The street names were all so hard to find. Riv glanced at his map, finding one street and then noting that the next address was halfway across town. He'd been stupid. He should have tried to organize his notes somehow, put all the places that were nearby one another on the same page or something. What a pain. And there was nowhere for him to just put the map down and flip notepad pages...
Growling to himself, ignoring the stares all around, Riv shook his head and decided what the hell, he was just going to go ahead and do it in the order he'd noted it down. So what if he'd have to float from one side of the city to the other constantly? Exercise was a good thing!
Shoving the map into his pocket after one last look at his destination, Riv floated forward. He paused under the street sign, blinking in confusion. "Second street? I thought this was Seption street!... God damn it." Frowning, the scorpion huffed and took the map out again.

In his current umbrella obsession, Wit quite nearly missed seeing the Raevan in a fit of indecision as to whether or no the little strap about the umbrella's girth should remain buttoned as it was, or allow the umbrella some breathing room by unsnapping it. The question, as entertaining as it was, was gone from his mind, however, the moment that Rivener's striking red, black and floating form caught at the corner of his vision.
Suddenly all eyes, he blinked owlishly, only to have a delightfully pleased cheshire-cat grin spread across his face. Well now, that was something shiny and interesting indeed. Making his way over to the frustrated Raevan, Wit placed his umbrella in front of him, bracing it on the ground and placing both hands atop the beaked handle in a surprisingly businesslike fashion. "Why hello theres, is youses to be being lost, Raevan?" It was curious, but wondrously cheerful. No matter how it ended, the run-in with one of the mysterious floating creatures had quite made his day.
This one seemed a mite unhappy, but if Wit could help him out, well then, perhaps the stunning creature might talk to him. That and the vampiric fae had never once seen one of these that was this...complete, for lack of a better term. All of the others had been more lacking in the torso department, this one, however, was possessed of quite a nice midsection, if Wit did say so himself, and instantaneously several questions that he was keen on having answered sprang to mind.

Rivener blinked over the moment he heard the soft t-clak of the umbrella's tip hitting the ground. A very-... peculiar person was suddenly speaking to him. In a very peculiar way. Which was rather hypocritical since Rivener himself could be considered quite peculiar as well. Still, an elegant eyebrow arched up over one of the ruby eyes, Riv's lips parting in puzzled awe.
Rivener was good, no, he was exceptional at communicating. He'd had tons of practice after all, what with Roux and Eiry being his two main Raevan friends. Rivener could easily piece together this man's meaning despite the strange turns of phrase and misplaced plurals. That strange speech didn't baffle Rivener as much as the outfit, and the overall appearance. This guy was weird. And that, Rivener decided, was wonderful. For once, he wouldn't be the only weird one.
Grinning, Rivener decided he'd not brush this person off like he did most others who approached him lately. "Ah, yeah, I'm a little lost. I'm trying to find these addresses here but I, erh, I'm not sure where I am." With long, clawed fingers Rivener showed his notepad, the addresses written in neat, thin-lettered pencil. "And, how exactly do you know what I am?" the Scorpion added, tilting his head. Not many people knew the word Raevan.

Oh huzzah! This one seemed rather friendly, just the sort of creature that Wit had been hoping to approach the most, albeit a very lost one. Straightening, he then tipped his hat to the smiling Rivener, "This one is to be knowing what youses is because the Wit had met suchly before. And he is to be looking after one of his own soon." A fact that the blond man was intensely proud of. It still caused great surges of childish glee when he remembered the bout with the kitsune, and the little clink-clink sound of the coffee beans in their vial...small, pleasurable memories.
"And perhaps the Wit is to be helping youses?" A beatific smile at that, "This one is curiouslike, as he has not to be seeing a Raevan quite like youses before...more finished, youses are to be being." He trilled, tucking the umbrella beneath one arm as he settled down to business. This was the thing he had really been keen on knowing, as Wit had no firm idea as to the stages of a Raevans bottle beyond soul plus essence equals floaty person. It was his insatiably inquisitive nature that had brought him this far, and the Raevans by their very nature were tantalizing, seeming to tempt him, dare him to learn more.
Wit was always the sort to rise to a challenge, and Rivener, being as lovely a being as he was, only fascinated Wit further. And whilst the other male seemed just as interested in Wit, a fact that pleased the halfbreed to no end, then he would make use of that as well, green eyes alight with the possibility of knowledge to be gleaned.

Rivener chuckled at the way this person- apparently named "Wit"- spoke. He couldn't help it, but he hoped it wouldn't be considered too rude. "Ah, you're going to be a guardian? That's great! My kin seems to be popping up all over the place lately. I wonder how many of us that makes, now..." The musing only lasted a moment before Wit continued on to offer his help, as well as ask in a roundabout way why Rivener was more "formed" than most.
Finally! Someone who hadn't met Lazarus first! Rivener positively flared with pride, wings flapping softly for a moment as his grin widened, thoroughly pleased. "Ah, you wouldn't see many like me, no. There are only a few so far. I am more "grown-up", this is my second body. I used to be only til here, like all the others," he motioned to under his ribcage, "but I changed one day. There are three others like me, I think. I think. Roux, Melisande, and Lazarus. So far." There was no hiding how proud Rivener was to include himself in that small group of people, the elite of the Raevans.
Ahhh, s**t, he was letting his vanity get away with him again. Trying to rein himself in, Riv cleared his throat and tried to brush it all off. "But you know, all Raevans will grow up this much after a while, so it's no big deal. So, erm, about these adresses, which would be the closest one? Or even if you could just show me on the map where we are right now, that'd be really helpful..."

Wit was, however, terribly accustomed to more than just chuckles from those he encountered. This place was downright friendly considering the sort of place he'd been raised. Honestly, he'd really rather be here, amongst the strange and only occasionally unpleasant. "This one is, yesly! Is to be being quite excited-like!" Rivener's pleasure seemed to have a mirror effect, the halfbreed positively lighting up (though thankfully not literally) at the Raevan's words.
"Oooo~" He made an appreciative cooing sound at the Sigel's explanation of growth. "So perhapsly thee will be possessing of an entire body, yes yes?" That seemed to make sense, after all. "Is to be being quite impressive, sir Raevan." He could quite easily tell that he was catering to the other's ego, but he really didn't mind. Wit had a terrible tendency to spoil that which garnered his pleasure.
But with the more serious question Rivener posed, Wit's expression turned a mite more serious, less child-like, perhaps, green eyes narrowing slightly as he peered at the notes that the other held. The way the blond had acted thus far was, after all, just a small facet of who and what he was. Tapping the map first, he made a gesture at the street that they were currently occupying. "Here is where we are to be being, aaaaaand..." Skimming the map, he then reached to snatch a couple of the notes from the other's hand in order to compare them with the network of streets the map portrayed. "Hmmm~."

Rivener was wondering why, in the strange man's speech, he was being referred to as "sir Raevan". Only after a moment of pondering this did Riv realize he hadn't even introduced himself. Well, not that the other had really either, but... "Ah, my name is Rivener. And you're "Wit", yes? Thank you for the help." The Scorpion's smile held a bit of vanity again after being flattered so thoroughly, although he was trying his best to play it off like it was no big deal again.
"Ohhhh, I'm rather far from where I thought I was. I thought I was over here... I know that this street, Mayberry street, is over there. That's like ten blocks away..." Riv sighed. He wouldn't be nearly done today, he'd have to come back some other time. "Are there any of these addresses near here?" he asked, making Wit hold the map open while Riv flipped his note papers for the both of them to look at, seeking out a nearer street.

"Oh!" Appearing suddenly mortified at his complete lack of manners, he tugged at the ends of his jacket, straightening himself ever so slightly, and with a soft cough, he made straightaway with his own introduction. "This one is to be being Wit, yes, Wit Fluteriousllae, please to be forgivings, he had forgottens that he and thee had no proper introductionslike." Tipping his hat and giving a slight bow, the grin then reappeared, "A pleasure to be meeting you, Rivener, a very great pleasure it is to be being indeed."
With that remedied, he then turned back to the matter at hand, that of getting the Raevan where he needed to go. Tapping a finger to his lips in solemn thought as he eyed the addresses, he finally spied one where the street name looked at least semi-familiar. "Ah! This one is to be being riiiiiight..." A tap of a long finger on the map, indicating a place but a few blocks away. "...here." Curiosity flickered back into the halfbreed's cat-like eyes. "Where is the Rivener goingses, if he doesn't mind this one to be asking?"
This was, after all the first time that he'd seen a Raevan without a guardian, though he rather supposed that had something to do with the fact that Rivener was older than all of the others he'd seen. Zul, for instance, had seemed particularly childlike.

Rivener pulled his notes closer to himself as Wit began with his proper intruductions, the Scorpion putting himself out of the way to allow for the bow and tip of the hat. The Raevan couldn't help his lips tugging up into an amused smile. So retro. No, worse than retro. Antique. Outdated. Baroque. And so on. Amusing, very amusing. "A pleasure to meet you too," Riv replied with a similar slight bow, although he had no hat to tip so instead he flared his wings slightly.
There, after that was taken care of (Riv gave up trying to recall the man's last name, it was just too complicated) the pair returned to their task, and Wit was quick to find one of the addresses being nearby. Riv smile broadly, nodding. "Yes, that's very close by. A good place to start. I can probably find the others from there, thank you. As for where I'm going, erm..."
It was supposed to be a secret, but Rivener doubted telling this one person would somehow make it back to Aphismet. Smirking, the dark Sigel folded the map again and shoved it in a pocket along with his notes. "I'm looking at apartments, actually. I'm wondering if it'd be possible for me to live on my own now, so I'm just looking into places. To see what the prices are, what it looks like, all that. I'm still not sure I'll go through with it, but it's still fun to look." The Raevan nodded to himself, making sure he knew which direction he'd need to head in.

He supposed that was one of the reasons that he liked Raevans so very much, they, thus far, had proven to be less than hostile and most definitely just as odd as Wit himself was. Ah, but younger, which made him feel even more at home, strange as that fact might seem. Perking when the other thanked him, he canted head to one side, "Well, youses is to be being welcome. Is never fun to be being lost." It had been a long time since he himself was, as he tended to attract enough attention to garner whatever help he might need at the time, no matter how unwilling the informant might be at the time.
Feeling suddenly like something of a confidant, Wit chuckled low in his throat, "Ah, well, Rivener seems to be being a more grown-up Raevan now, is true-like, and youses are to be a better speaker than most this one has met also." Now, he didn't know the other well, so he could not vouch for the other's maturity, but he seemed to have a level enough head on his shoulders for the moment. (It was, perhaps, a fortunate thing that Wit had not met Rivener before.) "And it is fun!" He bobbed his head enthusiastically, "What sort of an apartment is Rivener looking to get?" Even if the Raevan didn't get a place of his own yet, that sort of planning was always exciting, and once Rivener had grown enough to have legs, then the floating torso phenomenon wouldn't be such a terrible hassle in day to day activities, as Wit was quite sure that it attracted just as much attention as the blond's own uniqueness. Heck, it had attracted his attention.

Rivener was glad to confide in someone, not realizing until now that his secret had been itching at him, needing to be shared with someone, anyone. It felt good to tell someone how plans and not have them instantly turn it down. "Have you met many Raevans? A lot of those I know speak very well, actually.. You must have met some very young ones. Although some grow up and still don't bother speaking much." Riv shrugged. That's not the important topic here. The red eyes glittered as he launched into the more interesting subject.
"As for what kind of place I'm thinking of getting... I know I'll not be able to make much money on my own, so I just want a small place, possibly a studio or a flat. You know, just one big room? That's what I used to live in with my Guardian back when I was a newborn, it was small and cramped but I liked it there. It'd probably be affordable. I just need someplace with a nice big window, or access to a fire escape so I can eat peacefully." Riv nodded. His conditions were modest, since he knew not many people would hire a floating half-person. Still, if he could make a small living and have a cheap apartment, that'd be best.
But, of course, the biggest hurdle of all would be convincing Aphismet to let him do this. The chef would most likely be completely set against it.

Ah well, so that was how it was. It delighted Wit to know that not all Raevans were necessarily so very childlike as the ones that he had encountered. "Well, this one had the pleasurelike of meeting Zul, and was to be being meeting a few more duringses the summer. Wit was to be meeting his first Raevans then." Not that he remembered very many of them, much less names. He had been more an observer there, than an actual participant in the grand festivities.
Nodding sagely, he approved of what he heard, so far as the planning went. It seemed a feasible idea, especially since the concept of a Raevan getting a job was one that even Wit had to struggle to wrap his mind around. He supposed it was possible, however, since they were just as capable as many humans in well, er...most things. "This one is to be thinking that youses could probablies do such a thing." He encouraged, assuming that it was a good idea to inspire at least a little independence in a growing Raevan, especially one who was a stage above all of the other ones that the blond man had encountered.
One thing that Rivener said, however, piqued his curiosity once more. "And what is the Rivener to be eatingses?" He trilled, having been unaware of just what the diet of a Raevan consisted of.

Rivener grinned proudly to hear that Wit thought this was a good idea, something that could be done. To be encouraged like this would most likely not be the reaction he'd get from people at home, so it was rather nice to hear at least ONE voice who was on his side.
"Ah, you met Zul?" Instantly the dark Sigel's demeanor changed to one of pure sensuality as he glanced aside, remembering the demon-frei very clearly. "I only met him once, but he is... Mmmmnh." Chuckling to himself, wondering what Zul's reaction would be to his new body, Rivener wondered if he should maybe go drop by the lab and visit...
Ah, Wit was talking still, asking what Rivener ate that he needed a window or a fire escape. Shaking his head free of the other thoughts of tan skin and light hair and glowing rune-covered horns, Rivener forced his attention back to the strange top-hat wearing man. "Ah, what I eat? I eat the night sky. Starry nights. Like tonight's will probably be delicious, since there's hardly a cloud up there. Hope it holds til later." Riv nodded, looking up at the sky. "Why do you ask?"

Wit quite easily observed the changes that occurred at the mention of Zul's name. Ah, so Rivener was attracted to that one, something that the blond mentally logged away, as he hadn't realized that such feelings could be instilled betwixt the Raevans as such. Though he realized he should have expected that, them being as humanlike as a floating torso could be. Canting head to the right, he blinked slowly. "Rivener is to be liking the Zul then? Does the Zul like Rivener?" After all, Rivener was the elder of the two, perhaps he had feelings that Zul was not yet capable of. Well, it was a theory, anyway.
Eyes lighting up with interest when the other described what he ate, Wit silently considered the words, trying to fathom just how one could eat the night sky. Absorb it in a way perhaps? Take from it? Hrm...this was something to be pondered at a later time. "Well, the Wit is not to be knowing what Raevans eat. Do all of them eatses as Rivener does?" It was a matter he had not thought to address...and he would have to know for the time when his own Raevan was born.
