There are so many mysteries out there, death, how life started, if there's a god or not, etc. All of our human life, we think extensively about these things, perhaps for hours on end, hoping to figure out the secret. Unfortunately no one ever does. People have written books, made movies, and spent their entire lives trying to teach it and perhaps figure it out themselves.

If we were to actually find out these secrets, there would be no mystery left in life. We would no longer feel the need to question, no longer feel the need to grow, because we would already know what was out there. We would no longer be curious and therefore we wouldn't try new things, or invent new items. Our imaginations would die and our race would stay in a stoic rut of mindless existance. Perhaps this is why if people are reincarnated they can't remember their past lives.

So with that in mind, do you believe that the human mind NEEDS something to question in order to stay sane? Would we truely be satisfied if we did ever figure out all of life's mysteries? What do you think would happen if we really did figure everything out?

Perhaps the reason so many questions go unanswered is because people are subconsciously aware that knowing all the answers would bring about such a dull existance.

Well, maybe were supposed to figure out the answers, so that we can further our evolution?!

Maybe once we get all the answers for our current questions, we will either evolve, or we will make new questions?!

Some mysteries certainly AREN'T meant to be solved. They're meant to be meditated upon and contemplaited. It's sort of like the old phrase:

If a tree falls on a mime and no one is around, does the mime make a sound? If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around, does it make a sound?

Logic tells us yes, but if we really sit down and think about it, it really does boggle the mind.

That was a non-religious example, but there are MANY religious mysteries, none of which are meant to be solved, but all of which are meant to be contemplated. Nearly every religion has them:

How was it Christ rose from the dead?
How is it that the moon/goddess can continuously die and be reborn each month?
What is the sound of one hand clapping during the peach harvest in Kyoto?

In many of the Eastern religions, it is thought that if you discover the TRUE answer to some of these mysteries, you have reached enlightenment.

That makes perfect sense. You are the first person I've witnessed put into words what I could never figure out how to say. I've thought it, but as soon as I felt I was about to find the words for it, the notion would fly away entirely. Thank you. You are exactly right.

Sometimes, though, I get kind of depressed, because then I wonder if maybe there's nothing out there and our existence is... well... nonexistential. Because if the above is true, then it doesn't take much to believe that we create all of those mysteries (sp?) so we don't have to walk around aimlessly our whole lives. So we don't go crazy. And, well, that's kinda scary, and because I'm human, I don't like to think about it.

you have a point... but i dont every really think that all the mysteries can be solved.. more will be bound to appear... and theres bound to always be a nonbeliever trying to find a different solution...

for the 'do we need questions in life to be sane' .. not necessarily.. some people are just content in life.. though i would say very few... and there is always the question 'what is sane?' for those people who like to think about that sorta stuff.. ><
