Sekuda wasn't sure what she felt living out in the wild, alone, caring for her son. A type of joy was there in the freedom she had. Never would she worry about being tormented by the heartless children of the monster who took her in. Her son was safe from them, and he would live a life without them there to ruin his own freedom. She rejoiced in this.
But sadly, she also knew the dangers of hostile creatures. At first, leaving the pride was a frightening thought to her. Who knew what would happen to her and her son. They could be attacked by anyone out here, with no help whatsoever. Concerned, though willingly, she still set out from the pride even before her son was born.
Stirring from her den, her son at her side, she gazed at him affectionately as she reached to lick the top of his head. She smiled and carefully pulled herself up, looking around as she decided the events that were come. Today she was going to try to regain her voice. The process would be long and painful, but it was something she needed to do for the sake of her son, and her.
He needed a name. She had spent months looking at him, thinking of a name that would suit him. Yet, if she thought of a great name, she would be destroyed at the fact that she couldn't even utter it.
She sat down, eyes wandering to the sky.

Life was good.
Sho was busying himself by scratching his tiny claws on a rock, enjoying the sound they made and the feel of scratching. The marks he left on the rock looked cool, too. It was a fun pass-time. To him, little things like that were very enjoyable. He wasn't one to want a lot of siblings to play with. In fact, he didn't even really like other cubs. He was perfectly happy being his mother's only son, and only cub. Being the only cub as well as not having a father, Sho got to have his mother all to himself. Life was really very good.
The brown and pink leopard cub glanced at his mother with just a hint of a smile on his face, ears flicking up. He decided that his mother was the prettiest leopard ever. He smiled up at her face and allowed her to kiss his forehead. His tail swayed happily and he got back to his rock-scratching. But the more he scratched, the slower the scratches became. He glanced where his mother sat gazing at the sky, noticing something different in her expression.
Sometimes, Mama seemed sad...
The cub bounded away from his rock and nuzzled his mother in the front leg, purring with affection.
