Name: Rhian
Age: 16
Sex: Female (Heterosexual)
Craft: n/a
Rank: Candidate

Physical Description:
A girl of rather slight build, Rhian boasts neither a tall, nor bulky frame. Her delicate features go well with it, from her long, thin fingers to lanky limbs, helping to meter the intensity in her brown eyes. All the better for it; what a force she would be, if only she were male! As if to spite her own making, she puts effort into appearing anything but feminine, favoring tunics over flowing gowns. Her hair is the only exception she allows herself, letting it fall just past her shoulder blades. It's an infuriatingly nondescript color, resting uncomfortably somewhere between blonde and brown, and is thick and straight. She keeps it tied back with a wide leather thong, but shorter locks frame her face.

Personality:
Rhian is, to her very bones, a prideful creature, encroaching shamelessly on arrogance. Never mind her less-than-impressive heritage. Her lack of standing. She believes, without a doubt, she can do anything, and woe be he who suggests she might be mistaken. Though some may account it to a lack of the humbling experience that comes with age and exerted authority, her demeanor nevertheless exudes a subtly defiant confidence, and she takes instinctively to ambition. It may seem a blight on her should-be quiet youth, but with it comes a willful, unyielding want to prove her capability.

Her natural aptitude for most things she attempts means she doesn't often find proving herself particularly difficult, but she frustrates somewhat easily, and is prone to taking a dislike to activities she doesn't excel at. Despite it, she's unafraid to try new endeavors, but if she doesn't take to them easily, she can be reluctant in pursuing betterment, hobbled by her own distaste for failure. She didn't really want to, anyway, she often tells herself. But if she takes it on herself to accomplish something - and sometimes her pride compels her - she will see it through, no matter what. Obligation falls into this; Rhian isn't one to shirk duty, regardless how disagreeable it seems.

Rhian's sardonic sense of humor is her second most prominent feature. Deft evenness might veil her teasing derision, but her word choice often betrays her to the perceptive or familiar. The uninitiated are likely to find her coarse and prickly; she does not inconvenience herself to correct misconception, and finds little tolerance to humor it with. Others may see her for the wit she possesses, for hers is a keen mind fueling that sharp tongue. Time may temper it, but for now, she makes enemies more easily than friends.

Still, she's not heartless, nor entirely unsociable. Rhian enjoys the company of others; she only holds them to the high standards she expects of herself, intelligence foremost among them. She also has it in herself to be pushy, taking ground when others allow it, though she'd much rather surround herself with those who will stand up to her force. It demonstrates independence, and she likes that, not particularly wanting to be the herder to a flock of wherries.

History:
If Rhian does say so herself, her life so far has proven remarkably, painfully ordinary. It had started well enough, with her born to a Minercraftsman and a Healer in Com Hold, the first child to doting parents. They reminded her often of their affection, and she grew well-loved and well-tended, almost as spoiled as any child from a family as simple as hers could be.

Then, in her sixth turn, she acquired a brother. Things went only downhill from there. Not to claim she didn't love him. Quite the opposite; on one hand, Rhian took easily to her new lot in life. She started showing a natural inclination toward responsibility, despite her young age, quickly picking up the more basic aspects of tending a household and family as her mother taught her the simpler arts of womanhood. The then-child was almost eager to rise to the chore, happy to prove her capability in caring for her baby brother.

Then she gained another. And another. Her responsibility now three children deep, and her just twelve turns old, she began to resent her homemaker expectations. Rhian was a girl of grand dreams, and she aspired for more than her role of apprentice housewife. She wanted to take a craft. To learn something new and exciting. To be somebody, and do something important!

And then she found herself with another brother. By fourteen, Rhian had grown exceptionally restless. She struggled against her parents' staunch insistence on keeping her home, bitter that her eldest brother, six years her junior, dabbled in activities that would lead him later to apprenticeship. She could have sworn her father liked him more, with the way he coddled him, happy to share the basics of his trade, and the anecdotes of its simple pleasures. Things she's certain she had heard little of, even when she had been the only child.

Her mother tried to compensate with stories of Healercraft, praising to her daughter its many merits. Rhian resisted, refusing to take interest, fueled by her rebellious spirit. She grew only more resentful as her mother persisted, though, in time, she learned more than she would have liked. By her fifteenth turn, it was more than obvious she was ill-suited for apprenticeship, in Healercraft at least. She was again relegated to the monotony of her everyday, minus the dutiful Hearlercraft interruptions.

In her sixteenth turn, just as she was beginning to consider something extreme - something she'd no doubt regret - she was Searched. Glad to be rid of her chore tending to four younger brothers, and exceedingly grateful for the opportunity she'd always wanted, she accepted, despite her family's protests. Now, in Ista Wyer, she's learning just how little she understood of her love for them, and of the world around her.

Pets:
Harmony, a flitt Rhian was gifted more out of practicality than actual generosity. Her father never did tell her how he acquired the egg, but giving it to her had been a mistake, because the resulting Impression was the catalyst in her desire to stand in a hatching. Or, that is to say, her brother's goading was. She'll show him which of them will never be able to Impress more than a fire lizard!

Other/Talents:
Rhian is both quick on her feet, and meticulously methodical. Unfortunately, they do her few favors when it comes to her 'real skills', which include things she considers menial jobs, like cooking and first aid.
