Honestly, I wanted to see what all the hype was about, and besides, my Amelia Peabody book was taking AGES to get in at the Library, so I needed something else to read.
I'm not into vampires though, so I never thought I'd read them.
They were okay, I was SO bored with the second book, and found Jake super annoying before IT happened, then I thought he was okay. The last third of the fourth book was enjoyable.
Overall, she writes like a fanfiction writer (but of course, with her own characters and world), but she actually has some novelist skills.*
Everything was pretty two dimensional and was too ideal, but I don't regret reading them, I'm just not turned on by statuesque sparking blood drinking superpowered undead. xd
*I'm not saying that NO fanfiction writer has novelist skills.
Did you read them? What did you think?

I haven't read them yet, and I'm honestly a little hestitant to start.
I did the read the livejournal blog that summarized all four into comical commentaries that critized and praised it. I read that for the lulz.
But still, not too keen on actually reading it. Mostly because of the criticism of the "Mary Sue" thing with Bella - her just being perfect and awesome. I think I'd get bored with that style. :S Some comments about like S.Meyer projecting herself into that role...lol, but yeah just random comments. The chasity thing too. Sooo iffy. confused
I think I'm most likely being a little too swayed by opinions of others. With the movie out and the sequels to come, I think I'll just end up getting lazy and watching them to get the summary of it. ^^;

The chastity part is due to her sparkly (literally) vampire boyfriend being so superpowered and strong that he's afraid of killing her in her weak human body. rofl
Haha seriously the last third of the fourth book was entertaining, but it was an awful lot of reading to get to it.
The first was just whirlwind 12-year-old girl-idolizing-a-celebrity-like-character-romance, the second was dragged out way, WAY too long, could have been just a couple of chapters, did NOT warrant a full book, the third was okay, pretty much more of same, and the fourth was a continuation of semi-mediocrity until it reached the last third where things FINALLY got interesting.
Overall there were no twists, no surprises, nothing that would make me admire her skills as a writer (she tells an okay story but caters too much to the ideological fantasies of 12 year old girls).
Now J.K. Rowling, SHE knows how to create characters and plot lines that aren't transparent and two-dimensional.
I'm not regretting reading them, but I won't pick them up again. So glad to get back to my Amelia Peabody series.

The girl is 12 years old? Now that I did not know. My sister read the books and thought the movie was going to be very disappointing after seeing the commercials. She saw the movie and said it wasn't bad and that it did follow the book. I didn't watch it since it did look cheesy to me. I was thinking about reading the books first before attempting to watch the movie though.

Haha the main character isn't actually 12, just may as well be. I meant that it caters to the ideologies of 12 year old girls crushing on celebs. xd
I don't know if I'll ever bother seeing the movie/s.

I read the first book didn't bother with the rest of the series. (this was before the rush of fandimonium.) for a vampire book they skipped all the action she was unconscious during the fight scene for crying out loud. and the whole first half of the book seemed a bit drawn out to me I met him he was angry he wanted to change classes so i got angry then he dissapeared and then he was back and said hi now hes gone again then hes back a week and dissapears
its so repetitive I felt like I was rereading the book
it wasn't a bad book, it just lacks alot of the elements of a good book, with its mary-sues, lack of action, and 1 dimensional characters. not to mention all the kids who thought people like I were weird, for enjoying vampires and their fire bursting, blood sucking, crazy sex having ways, want to be vampires now. BECAUSE THEY'LL HAVE SPARKLE SKIN. mad
I saw the movie the night you posted this, mom didn't want to see it alone. it took the mediocrity of the book, and made it just plain bad.
(was Bella a vegetarian in the book?)

Oh. I thought she looked a little older than twelve but you are right though. There are a lot of 12 year old's who love Twilight. I remember seeing an interview with two of the main characters from the movie and the author of the series and they all sounded blah as if they weren't interested. The whole thing almost didn't make sense

Aahaha the interviews with Rpatzz and how Kristen Stewart just looked so "******** this s**t" at every premiere was pretty funny. xd It seemed like the both of them hated it, but needed the fame, lol.

Lol, they probably did. I think they are working on a sequel. And the author said in the interview that she was working on the next book for the series but doesn't know when she'll be finished or something like that. She also noted that she was working on another book as well.

Yeah, they're filming around town actually. @___@ I've seen photos online of them in downtown Vancouver haha. Haven't actually seen any of the cast myself because...honestly, they kind of blend in with the usual dirty hipster crowd of the downtown core and I don't get down there that much. xd It'd be sweet to spot me some Edward though! haha

I've been pretty successful in ignoring this series, but I keep hearing about the sparkle skin and other bastardizations of the Vampire mythos and it makes me rage every time. @Isa: I'll remember to bring my sack of garlic, stakes, a good sized blade, and to keep some flammable liquid handy when I'm in town. I've read Stoker's Dracula so know how it's done, after all. That is a good book.

I have not read the books nor do I ever plan to. My sister, who has the same taste in books than I do, said that it was basically written for teenage girls. I am WAY too old to be imagine myself as a teenage wink I have the vampire books I like and I plan to stick with those. The last book craze I was involved in was harry Potter and those were just okay, so I don't plan on jumping on another book bandwagon anytime soon.

I have no intention of ever reading or watching the Twilight titles. Between the sheer number of bad reviews I've heard, and that frankly, vampires are overdone lately. Plus, if I really wanted to read a horrible fanfic, I'd go to a fanfic site. I mean honestly, you can become a 'popular' author by writing pseudo-sexual prose aimed at pre-teen girls, and hinting at stalking by Day-Glo vampires? Honestly...

I just started watching True Blood this week - well more like...devoured the series in a few days. xd So glad season 2 is next month!
Anyways, I post this here cuz it's also vampire related, but something I can get into. I used to loooove the Anne Rice stories and that sort of thing.
Basic overview - Vampires come out and make their presence known and are fighting for civil liberties and rights in the USA (very reminiscent of racial and GLBT issues from the past and present). On a smaller scale, it follows this girl Sookie who can read minds and her first meeting with a vampire. Aaaand the plot thickens but anything else would be spoilerish! It's set in Lousianna so, um, hot southern accents galore. xd Also it's an HBO show - aka hardly any boundaries, lol.
It does stick to the huge regular myths about vampires - can't do sunlight, etc but takes out things like garlic and crosses. Also they have invented a synthetic blood so vampires can "mainstream" and not feed on humans, soo that's pretty much why some want to be a part of society again. xd Ugggh so good though. I recommend a watch for some decent vampire fiction <3

I haven't read the series, and from what I read here, I don't think I will bother picking them up. Don't get me wrong I love reading kids books, but somethings are just too inane. Like Baby Sitter's Club books (beside the fact that the author always spend the first 2 chapters introducing the characters pretty much the same way in every, even after she was in the 100 volumes. No series should last that long)
What I dislike is seeing children and 'young adults' writers dumb everything down so much. When I was a teen I wanted to read clever things, but not always on adult topics with adult characters. It was frustrating sometimes to find something that was challenging. Twilight sounds like something I would not have read as the pretentious teen I was. As an adult, I'm too old for that kind of fantasy. I want big words and people with depth.
BTW, Teddy, your post for the win, it actually made me laugh out loud rofl
