My husband recently decided that he wants to stay in til he can retire.
What about your SO?

My SO has been in almost 5 years and thinks that he is going to make it a career. He is still young though...so he may decide otherwise. Right now he loves his job though, so I think he'll be staying.

Yeah, my husband has been 11B for 5 years, well, 5 years mid April.
Fortunately he is good at his job and loves it, cause he's already re-enlisted and can't reclass now.

Shawn has been in for almost 9 years now. The Guard is paying for him to finish medical school and he has to sign a 5 years contract. Since that'll put him near 15 years he's just going to stay in and retire at the age of 37. Joining the military early does have it's perks.

Exactly, Mr. M (my husband, I don't want to use his first name really) will retire at 37 as well

About until about a week ago my husband was all about re-enlisting and making a career out of the military. But, now he's having doubts. I think its partially because he hasn't actually had time to be at home to do his job. He went from basic to AIT, spent 2 months in AK and then went to Iraq.
I think his demeanor may change once he gets home.

He has time to figure out before his re-enlistment window is open.

He was considering reenlisting in the past, but the fact that he's been deployed twice and away from us for so long(and missing Alaska) has changed his mind for sure. He was supposed to get out in August of this year, but given that he's deployed right now, that's not happening. Now we have to wait until spring of next year for him to be released from active duty and move back north...

He can re-enlist to pcs to Alaska, my husband did.
If you don't mind me asking, what part of Alaska?

Well he's from Kodiak, Alaska(which is on Kodiak Island), and we plan on living there...he wants nothing more to do with the Army after he's back from this deployment...he's ready to get out(and I don't really blame him much).

Ah, we are stationed in the interior.
Yeah, there are times I wish we were done with the Army.

My boyfriend has been in the Navy since 2005. he joined while in High School and was shipped out for boot shortly after graduation. so, 4 years. He has another I think 6 to go...he is thinking about being a lifer depending on the economy.

Thats a very smart move.
My hub will stay in the Army I'm guessing for a good while. The economy is so awful and being in the military you don't really feel it. :]
But we will most likely turn out lifers.
Since I'm going to become a nurse and he's so great at the Army we fit in well. :]

My husband changed his mind... again.

He's back to his original plan of staying in and doing the PA program. (Which will be amazing, stability for 56 weeks guaranteed... almost, we are talking about the Army.) After completing the PA program he'd do another four years as a Med Officer. && After that it'd be silly for him not to just finish it out and retire, he'd be about 12 years in.

I hope he does this. It will give him way more options and opportunities when he gets out of the Army. This is what he's been wanting to do since he started basic.

I think he was just having a bad day and things were getting to him.
