Just wanted to say ol' Buzz Lightyear will be gone most of next week. Just thought everyone should know.
In the mean time, you guys are bound to segway around until this is a topic about celebrities or potatoes, so segways are allowed since this is a vague topic.
Starting with: What is your ancestry?
I am an Irish Jew(FEAR ME!!! RAWR! GODZILLA!!!). My dad's Catholic side of the family has always been Irish. My mom's Jewish side of the family is from Romania and Russia.

I chose this topic because among my Jewish friends IRL last name meanings is always a HUGE hit. Just throw in that your name comes from Gaelic and they'll go off on that tangent for HOURS. But since no real last names here.....

I'm a Canadian Jew! My Dad's family is originally from France and Italy. And my mom's from Ireland (told you I was part Irish) and Canada (and part Inuit!).
My last name doesn't really have an ancestry...

Every name has an ancestry. It's probably in a different language.

Yeah, I'm not really sure. It's the name of a city somewhere, I've heard. But I'm not bothered enough to check that out.

Russian, German, and Puerto Rican. :3
Some of it is questionable, though. Both grandparents on my mum's side were adopted.

I can trace my roots around 500 years back to the city of Lodz, Poland on my dad's side of the family (see Family Stories), and also there was a group of us in Riga, Latvia, but they died out around 60 years ago... cry
On my mother's side of the family, I can go back a millenium to early Jewish immigrants to Britain. They moved to Scotland, and became drovers, while they doubled as a migrant bankers. Eventually they settled in Chester, also known as Diva (the Roman name for the town). However, in 1290 Jews were banned from Britain and their property taken by the government. To avoid being made peniless and exiled, my family converted to Christianity. They stayed in England until 50 years ago, when they scattered across the globe. And so my grandad moved to Wales, met my gran, my mum was born, married my dad who was the grandson of someone fostered to a family in Wales from Ireland, and thus I was born.
I'm pure Jewish, basically, but I guess you could argue I'm only half-Jewish, and some of you would argue I'm not Jewish at all! I have Jewish roots, but I bet I've picked up some Slavic, Germandic, Irish, Scottish, English and Welsh on the way! And I know for a fact there's a member of my family in nearly every country in the world, from South Africa to India, from Australia to the USA, from Russia to Israel and from France to China.
