Basically it's for dependents with chronic conditions that require medical care.

It's supposed to be so those who have special needs can get the care they require.
What they don't tell you is that certain conditions can limit where your SO will be able to PCS to.
It doesn't take much to get in it, I am in it because its on my record that I went to a cardiologist for a fast heart rate.

But, if the condition is severe enough it will limit where your SO can PCS to, the Army has to make sure that locally there are the medical facilities that can handle your care. Mainly it limits you from overseas posts.
I'm not sure of the exact specifics, other then they told us after my husband re-enlisted to come to Alaska that there was a chance that I wouldn't be able to live here with him because I am in the EFMP.

Not sure what the point of this post was other then to inform people about the lovely EFMP, or to talk with others who have had the wonderful experience of being in it.

really? wow... my bf is probably going to marry me and then join the air force- although we're not sure what is coming first. I was born with a heart problem and had surgery when i was a baby. The surgery left me with a leaky valve... i wonder if that will qualify

If it requires medical care, then yes, you would qualify.
It doesn't prevent him from joining, it just means they will be more careful about where they send him.
We just found out I have a stomach problem, it may require treatment, if it does, they will prob want to make sure there is a surgeon who can treat it where ever they send us next.

I suggest you guys get married before he joins, it will make it easier to get yourself to his first base, and to his tech school (if it's long enough).

I'm kind of glad that my knees aren't bad enough to need constant medical attention. we both want to go to many places overseas...
