So I found this old pair of sneakers that used to belong to my sister a few months ago. They were just my size but, due to being coated in glitter glue and sharpie (to say nothing of that dreadful pink colour), were unfit for my fashionable feet.

However, a few hours and some old tubes of acrylic paint later, I managed to paint gears on them. I also brassed up the shoelace grommets with some leftover brown paint.

I still need to find some laces for them (I'm thinking black/charcoal), but I am pretty proud of these as this is one of my first major steampunk projects.

Why thank you.

Unfortunately, after the first few days of use, the paint is rubbing off in some areas and the previous pink is showing through. I am afraid I'm a bit rough on my shoes...I may have to touch them up.

@ tok:
i'm part steampunk, part Mod, and converses are like godly shoes to a stereotypical mod... haha

Sadly acrylic and tempura always do this to me. If you decide to do this again (and I think you should, the result was lovely) I've had good results with artsy fartsy fabric paint and sharpies. That, or you can make up a small batch of concentrated dye and paint it directly on the fabric portions with a paint brush. Also, what do you think about covering up the converse logo? Maybe with a watch part, or other small mech. piece?

Firstly I think the results for this was awsome!

and second, forgive me if its a stupid question, but what makes converse so great that they can't be modded confused

Nice. Did you not use fabric paint though? Fabric paint is hard as hell to rub off.

Ooh, very nice. They look whole lot better now.
