Azar'bijan. Fire Hero. He didn't much live up to his name. He was more bully than hero, more irritating than being likeable. Nevertheless, heroic deeds were the things he wanted to live on and he was going to do his best to do just that. A shame that his personality really didn't suit it.
Today he was in a foul mood.
He was trying to learn how to be quiet, to sit very still for as long as possible, to mingle and blend. But he couldn't! He'd promised Uuo that he would try his best, but maybe his best wasn't good enough. Now he was thinking that guard duty just wasn't for him.
Maybe he'd end up a lowly cub-sitter after all.
He growled deep in his throat and kicked out at the sand, infuriated at himself. When was he going to start being better?!

She was off for a good walk with her new necklace she fashioned out of leather strips and her new tortoise shell. It was small, probably a hatchling. She had carefully chewed two holes in and threaded the cord through, and placed it around her neck like an amulet. She padded along, her white paws stepping high and proud. Since she had met Udd; she had lifted her spirits so much that she couldn't stop smiling.
Her parents would not mind her happy cheerful mood-and today Zii was off to do some training on her own-running and such. For now she would only be walking; enjoying the sands and the sun. She absolutely beamed; her golden eyes shining.
"It is so beautiful out!" She couldn't help but exclaim.

Who was that?
Who was that interrupting his tantrum moment?
Azar’bijan traced his path to the left, appearing from around three spires of sand-battered rock. His heavy brow hung low over his dark red eyes. His chest was puff out, his claws extended. Strands of straggly mane flopped into his eyes, streaking his vision with wisps of red.
Then he saw her. Shining white under the sun, she was. Bold as brass. How annoying! And what was she smiling like that for? Why should she be so happy when he was so miserable? That just did NOT seem at all fair. No. This had to change.
“Oi, you, look at me.” He called after her, stomping through the sand in an effort to block her path. “What do you think you’re doing, all smiling like that? Don’t you know today ain’t got nothing worth smiling about?”

A short distance away another male was stalking the sand. His name was Rowtag, son of Kenna, child born of the Safi. This child had spent the morning chasing lizards across the sand and now he was bored again. He’d just been considering going to find a sibling to spar with when he heard something that brought a smirk across his face.
That loud-mouth child.
A desire to torment the red-furred male swept into him – far too strong to ignore. So, he changed his path and headed in the sound of that irritated voice.

She felt the sun on her back and could not help but bask in it for a moment, golden eyes shut. How good the sun was, keeping muscles limber in times of strain. She knew that someday the sun may be her enemy during her guarding, but she would respect the bright orb like her parents. After all, didn't the sun give the earth its food? She smiled up at it, ready to just enjoy some of the days beams-when a voice shot out at her.
She turned and looked at the stranger, a firekin she did not recognize? She cocked her head at his words, look at him? Confused golden eyes narrowed at him. Why was he so loud? She couldn't help but click her tongue at him. "I can smile if I want to. I don't have to have a reason!" She said simply, rather put off at this strange red cubs spouting.
Were all these strangers from the other side going to be mean like that? She furrowed her brow at him blocking her path and simply made to go around him. He had to call over what she did!

Azar'bijan was a child of no great importance. Born into a large litter to Kibela and Bodaway, he had grown up with mainly a female for guidance. Perhaps it was the lack of a father figure in his life that had made him the way he was. Or perhaps he would have been a loud-mouth bully even if he did have a father who lived at home.
Either way, there was no point pondering on it. He was in a bad mood and that was that.
"Shut your mouth. Don't talk to me like that! Who do you think you are? I bet your some child of a slave, right? People might think bad of me cos Mother is a rogue, but she's the best Firekin ever." He huffed. "And atleast I was born red. All red. See."
He wrinkled his snout and took a step in her direction.
--
Rowtag came into view a moment later, bristling and ready for a fight. He could have heard that red child a mile off. So much for hiding and creeping! He was surprised the child's mother didn't come running and scold him for being such an a**.
"Half rogue, is it? So that explains why you're so disfunctional." He padded towards Azar, growling lightly. He was growing fast and though younger than Azar, he was already bigger.
And then he noticed her.
She was indeed very white, white except for that little mark on her chest. He swallowed, taken aback by her appearance. He'd never seen a Firekin as white as her before.

No one had openly said anything about her color before. She was taken back, her golden eyes wavering! How dare he-what a rude cub... he must be from the others; no cub of this side would spout such words. "My Mother and Father are Regent and Regentess! No and Kinodo are my parents!!! I am pure of blood!" She snapped, looking upset; for she was? Was her color that of a slave? Her head was swimming in anger.
"I don't even know who you are, how would I know anything about you!" She added, sitting down and glaring at him. She knew there was nothing wrong with white-her parents and everyone else said so, but this boy was spouting that she was a slave! SLAVE! She was getting so furious that little tears began to spill from her golden eyes.
She heard the voice of someone else and she turned, spotting the orange and black boy. She looked to and was half expecting him to make fun of her, since she did not recognize him-he was probably from the Safi too. She just took a timid step back; frankly she didn't want to fight anyone; especially two strangers.

(( whoops, forgot I was signed into the mule @_@ ))
Daughter of the Regents? Whoops...there he went shooting his mouth off again. He was knocked speechless for a moment, possibly even afraid of what he had done. She looked angry. Very angry. Wow, she sounded angry too. When weas he going to stop annoying the girls around here?
But the feeling of dread was weighing heavy on him. This wasn't good at all. If his Mother found out he was picking on Kidondo's children...well...there'd be hell to pay.
"Woah, woah, keep it down will you?" He waved a paw, hesitating to find the words in order to quieten her. The last thing he needed was Kidondo or his mate hearing.
He was about to open his mouth to tell her it was all a misunderstanding and that he'd mistaken her for someone else when Rowtag came onto the scene. He puffed himself up and took another step back, suddenly wary. He remembered the viciousness of the male, the lack of control over his strikes.
"Still sticking your nose into my business." He growled, moving back again. "Fine, you stay here and listen to her yelling and over-reacting. I'm outta here." And just like that he was dashing off as fast as his paws could take him, hoping desperately that he wasn't going to get into trouble for this.
--
He only half heard Azar, not really caring what the male was saying, knowing that it'd be nothing but insults and angry words. Instead, he was staring at Zii'moto, trying to figure out where the red on her pelt was.
He'd seen orange-y Firekin, but not one like her before.
And then suddenly he realised that he hadn't said anything and he diverted his eyes to watchign Azar leave. "Next time he comes near you, knock him flat. He talks tough but he really isn't." He shifted and after a moment, continued. "Are you alright? Want me to go beat him up for you?"

She glared at him with cold gold eyes. She could see the shock on his face, the worry that no doubt, she would tell; which she wouldn't. She didn't say anything to him, wanting him to be nervous of what may happen; if she told her Mom and Dad he was calling them slaves; he'd have his fur tanned. She simply inclined her head at his words; daring him to keep insulting her and her family again.
His last statement caught her off guard. OVER REACTING! She growled as he ran off-almost tempted to chase him and chew his tail tip off-but she had to show control and dignity; because of who she was.
She turned to the other boy, the other safi child and blinked slowly. He wasn't being mean to her yet. She noticed he was staring and she couldn't help the pained look that crossed her eyes; he must have been judging her too. She looked away, biting her lip; she was always going to get this treatment, thats why she had to be strong and be the best. "I'm fine... he just said some stupid things and made some-comments... that my parents would not have liked and he would be sorely punished-but... I don't care... he can be a brat if he wants too. It won't get him anywhere..." She said, her chest puffed and her shoulders taught.

He looked startled at her response. She didn't want to get him back for what he had done? She didn't want to see him pay? It was odd. Surely vengeance was too sweet to just leave behind? He didn't understand it, didn't understand her reasoning, but he was curious all the same.
"You're probably right..." He trailed, not sure if she was or not. Either way it wasn't his decision to make.
"So, who are your parents anyway? They must be pretty important to get him to run away like that." He laughed, sitting in the sand.

Zii watched the cruel one leave and couldn't help but wonder if he was right about a few things in life. But she certainly wouldn't ask him about it. She was not one for vengance, because someday she would get the relief in one way or another. She turned and looked to the lovely marked boy, the one who was pretty nice so far. She smiled. "My parents.... are the Regents of the Simo. No and Kidondo... " She said simply, looking rather proud... she was in a way. It was like being a princess without the future concerns.
"I just don't look like either of them. I got my grandfathers coloring... I match only by my chest and my eyes." She said, lifting a paw to show him her black splotch, the mark she didn't know was also carried by a goddess. "I'm Zii'moto. It means 'no fire'... fits my coloring perfectly!" She said proudly, her golden eyes full of honor for her lineage. "And I certainly am not the cub of a slave!"

His eyes widened. Kidondo and No? The Regents? The rulers of the pride? This white lioness was their child? Their child!? He was frozen for a moment, ears pert and listening, his eyes scanning her, trying to make sense of the information he had just heard.
She was the daughter of the Regents.
And then he found his voice, managing a half-smile. "You may not have the most elaborate markings or colours, Zii'moto, but the mark you have is a strong one." He smiled. "The name suits your looks butnot yor personality. You certainly have fire in your spirit." He moved closer. "Certainly not the child of a slave."
He paused. "My mother is Kenna, my father is Jiryan. I'm from the outside. The Safi. I came with all the others. My name is Rowtag, nice to meet you." He dipped his head. "We might have been raised differently, but we were certainly raised with more manners than that oaf."

She noticed his surprised expression and shrugged. She knew it was sort of hard to believe, she looked like neither of them and anyone could see that. She only knew she looked like grandpa cause she was told. She chuckled. "Surprising huh?" She said with a smile. "That I look nothing like my family!" She said, looking rather proud. She was actually very proud of her fur sometimes, she would try to be the best guard she could; despite her coloring.
"Nope... Though any child has the capability whether born from one parent or another..." She said thoughtfully, a small smile crawling across her pale muzzle. She really wasn't teasing him about the slavery thing, she knew that the Safi had slaves... she just liked to state her opinion about it. "The safi... I figured. I heard that they were coming to join us... and I didn't recognize you or him... so I figured. " She gaze a sideways look almost to make sure that red boy was gone.
"He was awfully mean, but I can't blame him. Almost the first thing out of his mouth was that he was the child of a rouge... which he must be sensitive about; why would he bring it up otherwise?" She said thoughtfully. She turned back to him and gave him a small head bow. "Glad to meet you Rowtag!"

"It is, I must say. Me and my siblings, we all resemble our parents. But you said you have your grandfather's colours. Makes sense to me." He flicked an ear. "Any child? Maybe so. Firekin more so, I think. We're different. Better, in a way." He shrugged. In all honesty he hadn't had much contact with slaves. He'd seen a couple slinking about his old homeland but he'd never bothered to speak with them. Pitiful creatures like that weren't worth his time.
"Him? Oh, that oaf is one of your guys, alright. Simo through and through. He's made it plenty clear enough that he doesn't want nothing to do with us Safi." He paused, wondering on that a moment. Maybe being half-rogue was what was bothering the other male. Not that Rowtag would bother to find out.
He blinked and glanced at her curiously. "You too." He smiled. What a sweet girl, innocent and pretty. The child of the Regents. What could it mean to befriend her but to get closer to her parents?
"What do you think, Zii'moto? Abotu us Safi, I mean?" He paused. "Do you believe all the bad stories you must have heard?"

Zii twisted her paw into the dirt for a moment. She knew that being different from her siblings was perhaps a blessing and perhaps sometimes, a curse. Since when did white blend in with the rays of the sun or the sand, especially when your family was black red, though she did have a sibling with some yellow in her coat. She nodded in agreement. She only knew how to be a full firekin and knew not if it made a difference if a parent was an outsider, she didn't care. "Well... He needs to get over it. He isn't going to get anywhere in life being that stubborn. "
She sort of gave a dazed look and looked out into the distance for a moment. "Truth is... I just know about the war...about the slavery thing... and about the lioness who died on our borders. I know that was a terrible loss for everyone in one way or another... but... well... I don't really know what I think." She sat down and wrapped her white tail about her feet. "I don't believe all the bad stories cause I have heard good ones too... and though bad stuff happened, it brought good things... " She lifted her head and gave a good sniff of the air.
"And besides... What ever makes my family happy makes me happy too. And I am sort of glad that teh Safi are coming to stay with us... it means the firekin are whole again and not broken."

Lioness who died on their borders?
Rowtag tried to hide his interest, but failed. His ears picked up and a glint brought sparks of light to his blue eyes. He knew who it was, though he had never met her. He knew it was Rap's mother. Ever since that day he'd found out about Ripuka he had come to the conclusion that the Simo was to blame. It was how he had gotten Rap onto his side in the first place. Maybe in this girl he would find out the truth.
"We've changed. Not me. I never had anything to change from. I was born me and I'm still me. The adults, I mean. Time went by and they all began to realise there was no hope in staying where they were." He shrugged lightly.
"Tell me, what happened to the one who died on your borders? I knew her son. He was a friend of mine. He didn't come with me when my Mother brought us here. He chose to go out into the roguelands. I mean...do you know who killed her?"
