The day was drawing to a close, and dusk was settling around her. For her own benefit, Celandine decided it must be pretty; the grasses and flowers she'd felt tickling her legs all day must have looked beautiful bathed in the light of the dying sun, and the slight breeze that stirred her hair probably made the entire scene look almost poetic. Rich scents met her, provided balm for the brief pangs she might have felt at not being able to witness a sunset, and as the night air cooled around her, she found herself supremely content.
Stretching her wings, she beat them softly, debating taking flight for a few more moments before bed. She'd wandered the ground in the area enough to know that it was safe, but it wasn't really prudent. As night approached, she needed to find somewhere warm and safe to sleep, and that wasn't likely to happen if she was gliding around over an open meadow. She did love to fly, though.
Sighing softly, she stopped in the middle of the meadow, leaning her weight heavily on her back legs and stretching. She'd been warned that she ought to seek out a friendly soul early on and secure herself a protector, but the idea just rubbed her the wrong way. Celandine was well aware of her limitations, she just preferred not to be ruled by them. For day to day living, it wouldn't even be required for her to have a guardian - she got along just fine on her own, clearly - but if she wanted to fulfill what she felt was her divine mission, she would be putting herself in harm's way quite often.
Celandine wasn't really a fan of being mauled, so honestly, it was in her best interest to find a companion.
Still, she wanted at least a few days to herself in a new place, to explore... to simply be. Then she would worry about keeping her hide attached to her bones.
Ears perking at the sound of beating wings, these making enough noise to belong to a Soquili, she looked up in interest. Someone flying around this late at night? Perhaps they were lost, or headed to some sort of shelter.
Pawing the ground, she rustled her wings and called out brightly, "Hello?"

It was that time once more that the aging stallion took to the skies to dance his dance to the twilight. His wings carried him over the tree tops and into the skies over head. Long locks fluttered about about and behind him to those able to watch him. Loops were cast and other tricks of his trade. Shihab had always gave greeting to the sun and bid farewell to it as well in the same manner. With his mate away collecting herself, he had found it difficult to stay still and wait for her.
Roaming now, but always returning home in a few days to see if she returned, he had wandered farther every time and was thinking of not going back this time, at least not for a few more passes of the moon at the very least. He worried about his mate, she constantly filled his mind, he needed something to distract him until she returned. Glancing down toward the earth beneath him, he found himself over a great meadow, it would do for a resting place. True not like his willow home, but suitable if the weather remains fair.
Wingtips dipping some and legs stretching out before him, Shihab settled himself down gently, the grass bowing away from him as his wings beat a couple more times before folding to his sides. The twilight was just about gone now, the stars were starting to bloom in their places, winking down at the world below. His ears perked themselves up and turned toward where he had heard someone calling, to him perhaps?
Golden eyes looked over the meadow once more, feeling he had missed something while he was dancing and spotted a younger mare some distance away. Walking in her direction, his head bowing some, not that he knew she couldn't see him.
"Good evening young miss," He greeted, his tone a bit cracked with age, but still sweet.

Her first thought was, what a friendly voice. Another stallion, which was a bit of a surprise to her, but probably not all that odd - after all, how many mares wandered about in the middle of the night in the Kawani lands? - but it seemed this one would be a friendly presence, just as Laures had been. Ears perked attentively toward him, she took a step forward, able to tell by his voice that he was still a fair distance away from her.
"Good evening, sir." It tickled her fancy to be called young miss; she certainly was, but what a lovely way to greet someone. This stallion sounded like a gentleman, and put her in mind of someone's grandfather, aged and kind. A contrast to Laures' bright and energetic personality to be sure, but she wanted to meet all kinds of Soquili.
Canting her head, breathed in deeply, sorting out the scents of the meadow and night from this stallion. He had a pleasant one, one that brought to mind warm, relaxing nights at the side of her favorite uncle, and it made her smile.
Her nose had never failed her before; he must be a good sort of stallion.
Good humor bubbling around the edges of her tone, she asked, "I'm not invading your home, am I? I'd feel very badly if I was, of course. Oh, and my name is Celandine."

Shihab looked the mare over, she reminded him of the one he and his mate had found and raised, before one of his own children drove him away with her anger toward him and his mate. Her own mother, shaking his head to clear the thoughts of Neva, he smiled once more toward the mare. She looked like one that was new to the plains, he had only been there a good two and a half years or so, perhaps not even that much. He couldn't quite remember how long he had been there, after finding his mate, he lost all track of time.
A chuckle came from him as the mare spoke of intruding upon his home. Good heavens no, it wasn't 'his' home, but he was sure it would be someone's home sooner or later, but for the moment it appeared to be just a vacant meadow open for any that took rest within its boarders. Away from the demons that plagued the boarders of shadows and beyond. Wings pressing close to his star splashed sides, Shihab thought carefully upon his answers, though the question was straight forward.
"Good heavens no, this be just a place to rest for the night before the dawn." Shihab nodded gently. "My name is Shihab, dancer of the skies and greater of the dawn." He bowed once more, extending a hoof forward a little as he did, his long mane piling on the ground. "'Tis a pleasure meeting you Miss Celandine."

Delighted, Celandine smiled widely at Shihab, already forming a mental picture of the stallion to take place of the visual one she would never have. He sounded like he had a strong face, but his deep tone inspired a gentleness that softened it. It was a good face, she decided quickly, and none would be able to convince her otherwise.
"The pleasure is mine, Sir Shihab," she responded, playing along with the formal aspect of titling one another, but only because it amused her. She bowed her head for just a moment, the move more of a bob than an attempt at a curtsie.
Despite her lack of sight, she still turned her head, pivoting her ears where her eyes would have swept over the meadow. It seemed they were alone except for the natural sounds of the dimming day, which didn't really surprise her. He had mentioned shelter, however, and that was a pleasing thought.
Turning back to Shihab, she asked sweetly, "Could I trouble you to escort me somewhere to sleep for the night? I'm very new here, and I'm having some issue finding a suitable place to rest my hooves."

Shihab had a strong face at one time, but over the years and the looking over many had softened it to where he was an aged man. But still had enough life within him to carry him until who knew when. He watched the mare for a moment before turning his golden gaze toward the star studded skies over head. It certainly was drawing closer to the time of rest. When she spoke of being new to the lands, he wondered if that was really try, but he wasn't about to question her. It was late and it appeared that both were tired.
"Of course." He nodded pulling his head back to gaze in her directions. "The stars have begun to canvas the skies and the time of rest is near at hand." Stepping closer toward her he reached out with a wing before folding t back. A rude gesture to touch someone that might not want to contact. "The trees aren't that far, From here I can see a bit of an enclave within the short spruce. A good place to rest and low rate of predatory attack." Or at least he could hope.
Stepping past the past the mare, his tail twitching a little behind him as he went. Stopping a moment, he looked back to see if she were following behind him. After a moment he started walking again until his hooves reached the needles of the pines and the enclave of spruce, it might not have been the most comfortable place to rest, but at least there was shelter from what nature could toss at them. Shihab shuffled some to the back letting the Celandine have most the space, he didn't need much as he was used to sleeping on his hooves.

He painted a pretty picture with his voice, and while they walked, Celandine lifted her head, feeling the night wind caress her face. Idly, she wondered if the sighted ever took that particular sense for granted. She couldn't say whether she would or not, if she hadn't been blind from birth; probably, because she would never know what it would be like to be robbed of vision. Still, sometimes she fervently wished she could see, just for a day. She wouldn't even sleep, would just spend the time from sun up one day to sun up the next drinking everything in. All the day sights, the night sights.
For instance, what did stars look like? And the sun, they said it was yellow, but what was yellow?
What did a smile look like?
Tucking those thoughts away, because she had a lifetime to wonder about them, she lowered her head once more, continuing to follow in silence. She could tell that they had neared a place to sleep, and she was grateful for his guidance.
A smile in her tone, she thanked him. "This seems like a lovely place. Thank you for guiding me here." Furling her wings, she circled once, identifying the boundaries of a comfortable sleeping space, before lowering herself.
Many would have called her naive for trusting so easily, especially a stallion she didn't even know, but Celandine had not been guided astray by her instincts yet.

Shihab stood watching the mare wander around the boundery before settling down, Shihab was going to remain standing off to one side. Wings shuffling about his back, he turned his head toward the still darkening skies, wondering how his love was... He hadn't seen in a while and he often worried abvout her, too much perhaps, but with a daughter as Neva... Nerves snap and things happen and all weren't always for the good of things either. Shaking his head, he looked once more toward the mare.
"Your quite welcome Miss. When I was little, I always found places much like this good places to rest." He nodded as his ears flicked back a moment before coming forward once more.
Something else was out thers, he knew there was, he could hear the soft steps even from where he stood. Ears flicking again, he turned a half a step toward the spruce as something was walking around them. He caught a glimpse of the creature's pelt, gold and white. Ah, he knew this pelt, his bonded on looker. A grin came over his face as he stepped foward towards where the lion would be coming from.
"Seems that we will have another joining us tonight. My bond, Dao. She's a young mountain lion, but there's nothing to fear, she's somewhat tame, mainly eating what our human gives her." Shihab said someone in announcement of the lion that was answered with a bit of a growl as the lion slunk out of the darkness.
"Gee, thanks Shihab, nothing escapes you does it?" she asked sitting just outside the spruce enclave, her indigo eyes watching her bond before looking to the mare. Puzzled...

Celandine had heard the approach of the other as well, though it had sounded smaller and much more stealthy than any foal she knew. She would have mentioned something, but even as she had been about to, Shihab had apparently noticed as well. She had to be impressed by his keen sense of hearing; her own had been sharpened and honed over the years out of necessity, but he seemed to be simply gifted with exceptional hearing. It had likely served him well over the years, and she was grateful for it - even if there was no threat present, it was still nice to know that he would be able to detect one if there was.
Ears flicking toward the lion, wondering exactly what a lion was and what it looked like, she smiled, knowing that she was looking directly at Shihab's bond because she had spoken. It was nice, in a way, to know you were looking in someone's face, even if you couldn't exactly see them.
"Hello, Dao. It's a pleasure to meet you." Legs tucked up underneath her, she bobbed her head, bangs lifting briefly, only to fall in the same relative disarray over one side of her face.
