The weather was finally warming up, thankfully. Having to be away from the water so long for fear of catching cold or ending up with one hoof in the sloppy chill on accident was very difficult for one who loved it so. With practiced ease, Kailani'ki moved along the water's edge now as she often did. Back and forth from sea to lake to mountains along the curving rivers, she moved at a comfortable clop, stopping every once in a while to examine the splash of a fish or the reeds sticking up haphazardly.
With the sun having reached its peek in the sky, she found herself at the beach again. The rivers' outlets were littered were stray rocks, a rather tempting thing. Coiling her muscles, she lept from the edge to one of the largest rocks. It was close enough to step from that one to a few others, but the further she got, the smaller the platforms became. Ah well. That's always how it was. Smiling to herself, she turned back, stepping carefully and jumping onto the shore once more.

Idris trotted along the shoreline, enjoying the feeling of cold water splashing up on his fetlocks. Spending winter in the desert had been educational, to say the least, but he was happy to return to the lands of his birth. No oasis could ever be as refreshing as spring on the Kawani plains.
"But if the ritual arrowhead is on this river-bed, I shan't find it without sifting through great deal of shale. Oh dear," the stallion muttered, musing to himself.
Idris knew very well that he ought to keep an eye on his surroundings. When he was a foal, traveling with a single mother had meant hiding from danger more often than confronting it. But these days, Idris was larger and much more easily distracted, used to losing himself in the labyrinth of his own mind.
"Could that be part of the test? Mmm, but, logically, if the vision quest- Oh. Oh, my!"
The stallion flailed abruptly into the water, to avoid crashing into the bright purple mare who'd suddenly appeared on the shoreline.
How had she suddenly appeared like that??

It could've been as simple as a passing butterfly or an odd sparkle of the water at her hooves. 'Oh, how lovely!' she would think, neck craning to observe the next best thing. Such was the bane of a sometimes head-in-the-clouds dreamer. While she could be as thoughtful and conscious as the rest, the carelessly short attention span that sneakily popped up was hardly suited for the real world.
Hearing the cries at her flank, the femme startled, soon finding a back hoof now sunk in a particularly squishy sounding hole of muddy sand. Hardly a predicament, however, if the splashes she heard next meant anything important. Lifing her momentarily blank gaze, she certainly snapped to attention upon noticing her thoughtless prancing had forced a well-adorned someone into the water she'd just hopped over. Startling for a different reason, she pulled her leg from the muck with a SHLURP and skittered back to the water's edge.
"Are you all right?" she threw out, though the worried question genuinely began to trail off as she noticed the sparkle of the orb settled on his headdress. Persing her lips, she pulled her attention back to the real matter at hand. She most definitely hadn't seen his approach nor meant to knock him straight into the water, but the fact that his offbeat appearance coincided with her return to shore so seemlessly made her realized she'd probably had something to do with it.
"I'm sorry. You're not hurt, are you?"

"Oh, no! No. Not at all!"
Idris backed up, cold water churning beneath his hooves. The spray had drenched the edges of his head-dress, but he hadn't come to any physical harm.
To think that he could be surprised in an idyllic little place like this! It was genuinely embarassing. Idris was glad of the thick, dark coat, that kept the mare from seeing the blood rush to his cheeks.
"It was my fault entirely, miss. My thoughts were elsewhere and I wasn't watching where I was going. Completely inexcusable." Idris shook his head ruefully. "I mean, there you are, very, um, purple - not that there's anything wrong with that! my mother is purple! - and I don't even note your presence along the shoreline."
He glanced up at the mare, from behind thick copper lashes, and shot her a hopeful little smile.
"I, um. I know I've been quite rude, but I don't suppose you've seen any unusual rocks around here?"
Now that he was thinking about his project, again, he seemed to have completely forgotten that he was standing in the middle of the spring thaw.

An intent ear found her expression softening into something ever so slightly amused. It seemed he was as apologetic as she, though she didn't see the need. Yes, both of them should probably have been watching their step. Still, he was the only one soaked in the outlet at this point. Or, well.... Glancing back, she lifted her back leg, giving it a tiny air-kick. Despite herself, she giggled aloud, thinking she should join him to wash the muck off before it hardened too much.
Ah well. Before she could think on it further, she shook her head quickly. "Oh, sorry. I'm not laughing at you, I promise." Another laugh escaped before she could quell it and she looked all the more sheepish for it. When the opportunity to make up for it arose, she quickly snatched it.
"You haven't been rude at all..." she muttered a bit, tossing her head. "And..." Oh, well maybe she couldn't make it up now. Unless he meant- "You mean like glitter rocks?" she further questioned, unaware he was looking for a more unusually shaped rock, not necessarily a sparkling one. "I've seen a few rocks along this shoreline that seem smoother and shinier in some places."
By now, she too seemed caught up in his question and oblivious to the fact that he was still in the water. Hopefully he wouldn't catch cold.
