Rosewood, falling into a lazy summer routine, peaked her nose out of her den hole, sniffed half-heartedly, and jumped out to start her mid day snack attack. She was determined to find the juiciest delights today, no matter how far it took her.

Luckily, it didn't have to take her too long. The Warren was positively booming with goodies. It wasn't hard to believe that she'd begun to fill out very well after a winter of deciding it was too cold half the time to go up and eat. Her coat glistened in the sun, having been freshly cleaned, and her mood couldn't be happier. There was an aura about her that just invited anyone in.

((haha. all i could think of was food. could be the ribs in the oven cooking rofl ))

Not long after, another rabbit pulled himself out of the burrows as well. He took a moment to gaze at the now cheery weather and clear sky and took in a breath of fresh air. Bracken then ambled across the green grass to search out the same as the doe before him.

The chief's wanderings brought him near Rosewood and he offered her a smile before settling down. "Good morning," he offered in greeting before deciding to nibble upon some of the grasses before him.

Rosewood smiled back warmly to her Warren leader. "And a good morning to you!" She grinned back. "What brings you out this beautiful day? Out to beat me to the best young shoots i'll wager." She laughed, a well rounded, very becoming laugh.

She couldn't really help it, something about the day was just so very perfect. She hoped it didn't annoy the Chief too much. She hadn't even thought of his possible mood before prancing hers around for all to see. What if he were cranky? She shrugged it off, if he were cranky, she'd just have to cheer him up!

"You've found me out," Bracken said back with an amused tone to his voice, and hung his head in mock shame. He had remembered speaking to this particular doe once before, and she seemed pleasant enough. As far as his mood, he was pleasant enough at the moment. Certainly he wasn't showing quite the exuberance that Rosewood was.

"Its a fine day. You seem to be enjoying it thoroughly," he continued. Ah yes, he was certainly rather observant as well. It wouldn't be suiting of him as chief if he didn't notice the mood of the rabbits under him after all.

Giggling at Bracken's attempt at shame, Rose beamed back at him. "I try to enjoy every day thoroughly! It keeps me happy, and the ones around me at least slightly uplifted." Preaning her ears a bit, the breeze having misplaced several of the hairs, she jumped, startled, as a huge butterfly came fluttering her way. A fit of giggles came out as she realized what was happening, but she very nearly had a heart attack!

"I'm so ashamed... it was just a butterfly! haha. Serves me right for giving in to my vanity." She gave her ear one more little pat and left it be.

"So what are your plans for the day. Anything exciting?"
PostPosted: Sun Mar 29, 2009 6:32 pm

She certainly seemed to have a good attitude and outlook on live. For that he could certainly admire her. Although, when she jumped at the butterfly, Bracken's eyes widened in disbelief. He soon relaxed and chuckled warmly, amused at the apparently skittish doe. Well... better to be skittish than completely ignorant of your surroundings, so he thought.

Her question though, brought a twitch of his nose and turning of his upright ear. "Contrary to popular belief, a chief's day is usually no more exciting than anyone else. Other than a meeting with the Owsla later, I'm afraid I don't really have any plans. What about you?"

Rose laughed. "I'd say Owsla meetings are still more exiting than the average rabbit's day." Nibbling a bit on the food in front of her, she thought about his question. What HAD she planned for the day? It was hard to tell what sort of trouble she'd get into, never knowing what interesting things would happen. " Well, i sort of just follow my instincts with days like today. Wherever my heart takes me, so i am commanded." Rose smiled, knowing that it sounded quite silly.

"That, and waiting for Birchwood to grow and fill out a bit more so your Owsla can take him off of my hands." Laughing, she did care for the young one, but he was very... brotherly... at times. And little brothers were a bother as she remembered from her litter of kittens, none of whom unfortunately survived to adulthood.

Bracken chuckled once more for he supposed that Rosewood had a point. Owsla meetings, as dull and monotonous as they could be, were more exciting that the droning of everyday life for many rabbits. Yet, Bracken didn't really mind so much just lolling around and enjoying the sunshine and silflay. Perhaps it was just because he was getting older.

"Oh yes, little Birchwood. How is he? Quite the endearing youngster if I remember right. There are not many does that would raise kits that are not their own." It brought a certain joy to Bracken to see young ones bounding about the grass and exploring their world. Then to watch them grow and become fine healthy adults.

((Yeah, PR's been messing with it. XD))

Nodding, Rose scratched behind her ear a bit. "No, not many. Especially not one like myself who has yet to have any kits of her own! But really he's like a little brother more than anything else. He has his moments, but he's mostly a very well behaved little one. Well.... i suppose he's not so little anymore. They grow up so fast! He's already got his sites set on joining you in those meetings of yours. He's filling out well enough, it just may happen. " Rosewood smiled to herself. She couldn't help but think fondly of Birchwood. So often he had been an ear for her to talk to. It wasn't that she didn't fit in with the warren, but that she yearned so much for so many things, sometimes she felt she would burst.

"He'd be here now, but i think my cheerful disposition has him weary. He's been doing a lot of sparring lately, and it's put him in a more serious mood than normal. Not that he was ever super cheerful like i can get," She bounced a little as she said this," he always was the strong silent type, even as a kit. Never once complained." She sighed a little. He no longer needed her really. She was missing the motherhood experience already. Shaking it from her head, she got more comfortably settled.
"How about you, have we more hopefuls for your Owsla now than the last time we spoke? We seem to have doubled our warren since spring. "She smiled warmly to him.

Bracken honestly couldn't quite understand where Rosewood was getting all that boundless energy of hers. Not that the chief was feeble, but he certainly wasn't one to get as hyper as she. Yet, her cheerfulness could be quite contagious and he found himself smiling quite a bit as he watched and listened to her antics.

"Is he now? I'm certain there are many young outskirters like him looking for a place in the Owsla. That's the dream of many young bucks after all. I know for a fact that Mud has his eye on it as also." Bracken paused as he continued to think. "We do actually have a new member. A large doe, Althea, I believe her name is. I'm sure you've seen her around." After all, she was one large rabbit. Bigger than Bracken and even Cocklebur. It could be quite taxing on a buck's ego! At least for Cocklebur's anyway. Size and strength, while he had it, wasn't his most defining feature like it was with the captain.

Again Bracken paused, having little more to say about the Owsla right then. He had caught her little sigh earlier. "So... the mating season will be upon us soon. I suppose you'll be finding yourself a buck to have kittens with?"

"Yes, i think he's kept his wants a little more quiet to his peers. He's not one to state the obvious, and since they all want in, well... he's not the showy type." Listening, she nodded as he mentioned Althea. She had herself seen her just the day before. "Quite the intimidating doe, i must say. I'll bet Cocklebur is having fun with it. " Snickering a little, she knew the ego on that buck, and exactly what issues he was probably having with it.

Ashamed that Bracken had caught her little sigh, she soon felt herself flush as he mentioned the mating season. What on EARTH was into her today? No, i didn't just have that thought... she said to herself. He was of course, off limits and way out of her league. "Oh.... well i hope so. I'm quite picky about it actually." She laughed, hoping the tone was the same as her laughter before. "Not many of the bucks seem to want to keep up with me!" She added cheerfully. " Though picking a mate just for the season isn't out of the question either. Someone strong and well built. This warren can never be short healthy rabbits." What could she say? She had a weakness for powerful rabbits.

Bracken couldn't help a smirk either, for he also know the ego issues he must be having. It certainly wasn't beneath the chief to revel in his captain's misery from time to time. After all, the two of them had quite an interesting history that most of those in the warren wouldn't even remember.

"Picky?" Bracken asked with a blink of his blue eyes. His expression turning to a knowing one as she continued. "Ah yes... well you would fall into the majority actually." He didn't know a single doe that wanted a sick, weakling of a buck. Almost, if not all does, wanted someone who could give them a strong and healthy litter. It was the natural way of things. It was why the bucks fought over the does every May. To prove their fitness to them. He had once done the same but... it had been a while. "I am quite certain you will find a buck that lives up to your standards."

Rosewood smirked a little. "Mayhaps. Though i'm bound to be out of their league if i do. You see i aim too high sometimes. Did you know i once wanted to be a storyteller?" She laughed lightly, "Now i just collect stories. I believe you promised me once a season ago. One about you and old Cocklebur." Her voice was smooth in the end, almost coaxing.
PostPosted: Wed Apr 01, 2009 7:14 pm

Bracken returned her smirk. "I believe you think too little of yourself, and I think you mentioned that before, yes." He had wondered what had changed her mind in wanting to become a storyteller. Perhaps those maternal instincts had won out in the end after all. Not too surprising since it was more often males that carried rank while the does seemed content enough to just have families.

"Did I promise you that? Hm. It would be rather unbecoming of me to back out now. But what story to tell?" He paused as he pondered this. There were so many that he could tell certainly... but undoubtably she would want something interesting.

Hesitating for a moment, Rosewood weighed the pro's and con's before making a closer hop to Bracken. So close now that they could be whispering to each other she took her nose and nosed his, where three little scars made their way across. "How about how you got these" She said softly.
