I believe you can find Japanese songs on playlist.com to listen to.
Popular band, such as Asian Kung-Fu Generation, The Back Horn, Ikimono Gatari, L'Arc~en~Ciel, and so on; they have songs played in anime. So anime music is not only a good way to improve listening, it also usually isn't very different from "mainstream" songs.

Also, highly recommended method for listening skills is watching Japanese television shows; via youtube perhaps.

Daisuki Dayo - Ai Otsuka
The song is slow so you can try writing the words/characters. Plus the song is beautiful. >>;

My friends and I would listen to songs to study for listening quizes. We'd write down the song in hiragana as it played and tried filling in as much as we could. Then we'd take turns translating it, putting in kanji in place of the hiragana, or compairing what we had.

Youtube has music, just go there. As for downloading..I don't know. D: You could try finding a site for youtube mp3s or something. I dunno.

You could start out with Japanese Pop. biggrin

I could recommend the following;

NEWS
Arashi
Gackt
Kanjani 8
Hey Say JUMP
Tetra Fang
Utada Hikaru
KAT-TUN

then you could also listen to JROCK like;

Alice Nine
Gazette
Kra
Mix Speakers Inc.
Screw
An Cafe

Pretty much you can listen to they're musics in Youtube, but If you want to download a whole bunch of they're musics like the whole Singles or Albums, you could use http://jimmyr.com/mp3.php/
This site is pretty helpful with anything downloadable. biggrin

I dont know what level your japanese is FC-XD but
I have always found that learning japanese from anime and music is a really slow way to progress, thats if you even progress at all.
You will almost always find that the words in songs and anime will are not aprpriate for everyday use.
I advise using www.smart.fm to help improve if you are able to read hirigana and katakana.
Good luck and Live the Japanese dream!

have you tried typing "J-rock" "J-pop" or "visual kei" in youtube? You can find bands that way.

I'd recommend watching Japanese tv shows over and over again.

Dragon Ash
Glay
They are good, but then the bands who make songs for anime will still have songs that arn't on animes. Which is worth looking into

This. www.smart.fm has a great dictation app that can help you.

If you want a good site for Japanese music though, check out www.jpopasia.com The name lies, they have pop, rock, trance, rap, anime music, etc.

(Last Alliance is a great Japanese rock band, check them out if you like rock...)

Do As Infinity. They're on iTunes. Some of their songs are in anime but they're a really good band. They just re-banded and have new songs, though I don't know how to find/get them.

Sometimes the singer is...erm.... a little off-key, but they're a GREAT band.

I also like YUI.

Songs might improve your listening, but honestly songs are like poetry. I would recommend trying to listen to the news or Japanese programs like dramas. Since those have real Japanese conversations in them.
