I'm not saying either one is better, but I just see alot of things in Twilight that Anne Rice used in the Vampire Chronicles and lets face it the Vampire Chronicles were written first. Don't get me wrong I LOVE Twilight, but I just need to get this off my chet and see if anyone feels the same way.

1. First thing I noticed that was the same is the mind reading ability. Lestat can do this, because he drank the blood of the ancients.

2. Second thing I noticed is that fire is one of the only things that can kill a vampire in both book series.

3. It's illeagel to make a vampire out of a child, in both book series, punishable by death.

4. Edward and Lestat have similar qualities, both tall blonde haired and good looking.

Anyone else notice these thing who have read both book series? I'm not saying Stephanie stole Anne's ideas I'm just saying there's alot of things that are similar. Please feel free to comment.

Because I'm totally a**l, Edward has BRONZE hair. BRONZE. Have you all even read the books!? question

Not that I don't appreciate Anne Rice, but I personally find her insufferable. Her writing style is boring!! Its longwinded and she just refuses to get to the damn point!! After her novels gained popularity, she decided that SHE was the only one with talent, and fired her editor, and after that her writing went from awful to unbareable! At least SMeyer is humble about her fame! Twilight is very easy to read, whereas the Vampire Chronicles are just....not. It took me MONTHS to get through just one of her books because they were so damn boring!! Twilight took two days.
Now, some might argue that it took most people a matter of days [if not less than a day for you fast readers..I am not] to read the Twilight series because its writing style is simplistic, which it is, but its easier to read because honestly, how many people do you know that use phrases like "...my sanity thoroughly shattered, had not he sensed with an infalliable instinct what was happening" (Interview with the Vampire pg17)? I MUCH prefer Twilight's endearing characters and Bella's narrative because it makes you part of the series, not just an outsider reading about an experience.

On the topic of similarity, well..its IS about vampires after all, there's going to be overlap in ideas somewhere. [YOU try coming up with something COMPLETELY and utterly your own! I can't imagine how JKRowling did it!!!] But certain things do make sense in terms of overlap..
Fire is a natural killer. It will destory most everything on the planet, so making that something that can kill a vampire is..well..natural. Meyer dashed a little more creativity in her version though, a vampire needed to be ripped apart to stay dead.
On the topic of children, it only makes sense that they're to be left alone. Children are probably the most universally treasured thing. Ask any mother, gold/money or their child? Also, just think about how children act. The younger ones, however intelligent, are still children and will behave as such. Adults learn to control their tempers and their mouths to keep peace. Children for the most part say what they want and do as they please [then get in trouble for it afterwards if the action was deemed inappropriate]. They're very unpredictable up until a certain age, so with a secret as great as vampirism, of course it would be law to not turn them.
On the topic of appeal...that's the classic vampire quality! You can't have "ugly" vampires! Part of their allure is their beauty. Would YOU let some creepy balding old guy graze his face on ANY of your body parts, be it your neck or a hand!?

So with all that being said, I give a hearty thank you to Rice who made vampires NOT just for goths, and a bigger thank you to Meyer who made vampires not just about blood and death. Whatever your opinion of the two authors, we love vampires, don't we? heart

I like both authors I think you (JuilianFai) misread my intent. I love Twilight and all the books in the series and I can't wait for Midnight Sun! I didn't mean anything bad about Stephanie. And the reason that Anne Rice uses phrases like that is because Louis, the vamp narrorating Interview With a Vampire, is about as old as Carlisle and hasn't been around humans much so he still uses much the same lanquage he did when he was human. Now Stephanie's books are easier to read because they are aimed at a teenage audience and she has a very diffrent writing style. Comparing the two isn't really fair because they are so diffrent. I just wanted to know peoples opinions.

I'm not really sure you can compare the two. Yes, they are both authors. Both female. And Both have books about vampires.

Anne Rice's books are much more adult. It's basically smut and she has a few stories that feature rape.

Meyer prefers to express the emotion of love. Yes, Bella went kinda crazy about sex towards the end of her books, but the story was more about Bella's feelings then the actual physical acts of sex.

Also, Juilian, you ARE being a little a**l about his hair. Meyer also compared his eyes to a stone that also comes in several colors. You don't need to use her exact wording on everything.

You asked for opinions!!! My personal opinion is that I don't care for Anne Rice!! [though I do own quite a few of her non-vampire novels] xd

one of the damned
Stephanie's books are easier to read because they are aimed at a teenage audience

Her aim was never for a teenage audience though, just because the story is narrated by a teenager I think the stuffy editors and bookstore execs grouped it into the teen category. She mentions all this in a Borders Book Club session [its one of the extras on the Border's Edition of the DVD, I'm insane and have BOTH the Borders edition and the Target one].

Juilian, you ARE being a little a**l about his hair

I gave a disclaimer!! LOLZ I'm aware of the eyes, but his hair was specifically mentioned. I'm a type A personality!! I can't help it!!! sweatdrop

Can we stop the me bashing now please?? I'm just thorough in my opinions when asked for them! Jeeeze!! crying
*backs away with hands held up*

Sorry. I didn't mean to bash. The eyes are just an issue with me. Topaz is a stone and not a color.

Personally, I think that Twilight is marketed to teenagers even if it doesn't mean to. Since it's written from Bella's point of view, the issues she faces are things that teenagers relate to. Bella had issues with her dad, separation pains from her mom, had a slow computer, experiencing her first boyfriend, high school drama with friends. Who hasn't had those problems?

Interview With a Vampire...not so much. Lestat was very hard to relate to since he was very old and he SPOKE like he was old. It was set in a time period that most readers know nothing about and all his challenges were crazy.
He just didn't seem real at all.

Its all good lol whee
I guess when most people say topaz we think of the golden orange colour, like the November birthstone. [I would know..I HATE that orange colour!!] I actually didn't know there was a green one..can I officially make THAT ONE the November birthstone!?!?!

I have no control over that...so sure. Yes you may.

I personally like blue and that multicolor one...I forget the name for it.

I think Rice meant for him to seem unreal since vamps are a mythical character.
And I wasn't trying to bash anyone or hurt anyone's feelings either when a debate or something starts I get alittle into it alot of times so I'm sry to all for past and furture things I say that may come off as hurtful or strong.
I don't know if there's anything else to comment on. But I'm really glad that, for once, someone actually answered my topic. LOL.
